Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, especially during the summer on Cape Cod and the Islands! Whether you crave a scoop of Nauset Peach in a dish, a chocolate dipped waffle cone topped with Bass River Mud, a Wicked Mud Flats sundae, or a good old fashioned vanilla ice cream cone, you will have no trouble finding your flavor of choice at one of the many ice cream shops across Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Below are a few favorite places to satisfy your summer ice cream cravings.

Polar Cave in Mashpee is billed as the ultimate ice cream experience: delicious ice cream at a reasonable price with plenty of picnic tables and chairs to sit at while enjoying your Mashpee Mud, Almond Bliss, Death by Chocolate, or one of their other many ice cream flavors.

Cape Cod Creamery with locations in Yarmouth and Hyannis, has an extensive list of ice cream named after Cape and Islands towns and landmarks. So whether you choose Orleans Oreo, Chappaquiddick chocolate chip, Hyannis Heath Bar, or Craigville Caramel Crunch, you are not going to be disappointed. The Yarmouth location offers plenty of seating outdoors in the yellow and blue Adirondack chairs, complete with umbrellas to keep that sun from melting your ice cream delight.

Katie's Ice Cream located in Hyannis, makes their hand crafted ice cream on the premises and will soon be opening a shop where customers can view the ice cream making process. Using local ingredients, Katie's produces wonderful and unique flavors such as, Cape Cod Lavender Flowers, Cranberry Oatmeal, and Cape Cod Cookie. If you want to enjoy their delectable ice cream at a later time, many of their ice cream flavors are packaged in both quart and pint containers to go!

If soft serve ice cream is what you are looking for, then a stop at the Kream n' Kone in Dennis is a must. Traditional soft serve flavors are served as well as delicious ice cream sundaes and spectacular frappes. A casual, family friendly atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, it's a favorite spot of locals and visitors.

Kids (and adults) will be begging to go to school over the summer - Sundae School in Dennis, Orleans or Harwich, that is. Specializing in sundaes, you can choose from their most famous sundae, which includes such toppings as fresh blueberry, burgundy cherry, chocolate syrup, and hot fudge. Additionally, you can try a sampler of their homemade ice cream that includes four flavors or your choice, or simply choose a cup or cone with your favorite flavor. Homemade hot fudge, real whipped cream, and fresh cherry on top! You will surely want to go to School this summer!

The Sweet Escape in Truro has a truly unique selection of homemade ice cream with such flavors as Ginger White, Beanstock Espresso, Ryder Beach Rubble, and Truro Vineyards Vino Sorbet. You are bound to find something deliciously out of the ordinary.

Four Seas in Centerville has been serving homemade ice cream since 1934. With delicious traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, they also serve up some unique, one-of-a-kind flavors you might want to try, like frozen pudding, lemon crisp, penuche, and cantaloupe. Sit at the counter, in the dining room, or take your sweet treat to go.

Ice Cream Sandwich in Sandwich serves homemade, hardpacked ice cream, soft serve ice cream, and sundaes, but you won't want to miss trying their famous Ice Cream Sandwich - two homemade cookies filled with their homemade ice cream. Enjoy your ice cream inside or outside on the picnic tables, on the grass, or on the chairs on the porch.

The Juice Bar, located on Nantucket, serves up homemade ice cream that is made on site. With an abundance of fun flavors, you are bound to find a flavor that suits your palate. The juice bar also features a FOD (flavor of the day) - unique ice cream concoctions with names like Rocky Ron, Cranberry Cream Yogurt, Purple Haze, and Wedding Cake.

The Scoop Shack on Dock Street, Edgartown, on Martha's Vineyard is a new, fun, vibrant and colorful ice cream shop. Not only will you find a variety of yummy homemade ice cream flavors, but also bags, barrels, and jars of candy delights.

Also on the Vineyard, Mad Martha's has been serving their award-winning homemade ice cream for over 40 years. And with stores in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, you never have far to go to treat yourself!
