Description

Description

This is a perfect home for families, travelers with pets and for families looking to do a little work from home. The house has a great feel inside and has a lot of useful space outside. There is a large, fully fenced-in, dog-proof yard with gardens and a fire pit. It is a short walk from the house to a private sandy beach on a fresh water pond. Access to the bike path is a safe and easy ride just around the corner. The house is in a very convenient neighborhood in the quintessential Cape Cod town of Chatham.

To help promote a great family vacation a house needs two things. First, a vacation home needs to have rooms and gathering spaces that facilitate quality time together. And second, a vacation house needs space and privacy for some relaxing downtime. This house provides both. The bedrooms are comfortable and are buffered from the main living area, while the shared living space provides intimate and diverse settings for gathering as a family or for spreading out for quiet reflection.

The House
The kitchen is newly renovated and well stocked; It has new appliances, including a gas range and oven. Adjacent to the kitchen is a breakfast counter with barstool seating. The dining room has French doors opening onto a fully furnished deck with a gas grill. The living room has plenty of seating and a large flat screen TV. High speed internet is available via WIFI throughout the house.

The master bedroom is on the first floor and is separated from the main living area with a front hall and entrance area; it has a king bed, full bathroom with laundry, and large sitting area with vaulted ceilings and skylights. From this sitting area, French doors open onto the deck and gardens. The second floor has two bedrooms and one full bathroom. The upstairs bedrooms are large and bright, each has two skylights. One bedroom has a queen bed; the other has a pair of twin beds. There are three separate desks/workstations; in the master bedroom, in an upstairs bedroom and in the den. There is a futon couch in the den on the first floor.

The Yard
The yard, with its Cape Cod style landscaping and gardens, is secluded and quiet. The backyard has a deck, patio, and a fire pit. A full-perimeter fence in the backyard is large enough for the dogs, or the kids, to stretch their legs safely. The fully furnished deck, overlooking the backyard and gardens, is south facing and is a great place to grill and share a meal, or to lay out and soak up the sun. Also, in the backyard there is an outside shower for rinsing off the salt after a swim in the ocean and a rope hammock for sneaking in an afternoon nap. There is a stone ring fire pit tucked into the back gardens. The gardens are the result of decades-long evolutions. Originally, the main focus of the garden was organic vegetables, with eelgrass harvested from Hardings beach being a primary fertilizer. Currently, the gardens emphasize ornamentals, flowers and an herb garden. (Feel free to freshen up your favorite dish with some parsley or a sprig of lemon thyme.) On the west side of the house there is a furnished brick patio. The patio is a cool and clear place for a morning coffee and later in the day the patio catches the warm light of the afternoon sun.

The Neighborhood
The house is in a very convenient and quiet residential neighborhood. The neighborhood is easy to get to and affords some great attractions all within short walking distance, with more great attractions being just a short drive away.
Walk from the house five minutes through Chatham Conservation land to a private sandy beach on a fresh water pond (called a “kettle pond,” Schoolhouse pond was formed by receding glacier during the last ice age). Walk five minutes to the Hangar B restaurant for breakfast and to watch planes take off and land (while there, book a flight seeing tour and witness the beauty of Cape Cod from above). Walk five minutes or ride one minute to access the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The paved bike/jogging path is built on a repurposed railway that was first built to bring summer vacationers to Chatham more than a century ago. It is part of an extensive network of bike paths that cover the entire Cape. From the house it is a short bike ride to the playground and ballfields of Volunteer Park and to Schoolhouse Ice Cream Store; head a little further in the other direction to get to downtown Chatham. In the car it is a short drive to Harding’s beach, downtown Chatham shops and restaurants, Stop & Shop for groceries, or to the Corner Store for a delicious burrito.

The Town
Chatham in the summer: the beach, great shopping downtown with some of the nicest shops on the Cape, saltwater fishing at its finest, concerts at the band stand, Cape League baseball under the lights (go A’s!), the National Seashore, sunrises at Lighthouse Beach and sunsets at Hardings, swimming in the ponds, great restaurants, the Chatham Fish Pier, Monomoy Theatre, beach yoga, kayaking, sailing, boating...

Additional notes: During the summer season this is a Sunday to Sunday rental (avoid the Saturday traffic at the bridge). This is a pet friendly home, we do not charge a pet fee. For those working from home, the WIFI has a download speed of 200Mbs and there are three separate desks. There is a washer and dryer. We provide a discount for long term rentals (stays of more than 31 days also avoid paying the 12.45% Lodging Tax). Thank you for your interest and please feel free to reach out for more information!

    Wonderful Vacation Property!

We had a wonderful week in Jordan's Chatham rental home. The location was perfect... very convenient to the bike trail and central to everything on the Cape. The house was clean, comfortable had plenty of space for our family. The kitchen was well equipped with all of the tools we needed to prepare meals during our stay (something we don't often find in vacation rentals.) The backyard/garden is beautiful and far more private than I expected and is the perfect place to read a book or take a nap in the hammock. I can't recommend this house enough! show more show less

Great House and Great Rental Experience

I rented this house with my wife, toddler, and dog last September. From the start, Jordan was highly communicative and a great host. He made sure we were clear on all the rental terms, house amenities, and provided recommendations for our stay. We were a bit nervous to rent, given the pandemic, but he assured us his cleaners used a high standard of cleaning and he wasn't aware of any of his former guests being sick during or after the stay. When we arrived, the house was very clean and we were happy with the layout of the house and property. We were so grateful for the pond in the neighborhood, which our dog and daughter loved. The house had everything we needed and was close to the beaches, restaurants, and grocery stores, but is located in a quiet neighborhood. We were very happy with the experience and will be renting again! show more show less

A Beautiful Escape to the Cape!

We were so very happy with this lovely home. It was such a pleasure to sit outside in the charming, fenced in garden, knowing that our dog could be with us and enjoy it as well. The master bedroom is unbelievably spacious and every bedroom has a skylight. Fresh flowers and a sparkling clean house greeted us upon our arrival and the owners were very responsive to any questions we had. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer, but we'll be back!

    Another Fantastic Stay!

My family of four spent another fabulous two weeks in Margaret and Stuart's home this July. The home is in a convenient and lovely setting with many things to do nearby. The house is clean, comfortable, and inviting. The deck is a wonderful place to relax after a day out and the yard and gardens are beautiful. Margaret and Stuart are the best people, generous with their home and their kindness. We look forward to another visit!!!

    Lovely owners!

Margaret was absolutely lovely to work with and her home was perfect for us. We had two families each with babies and since the downstairs bedroom is on the opposite end of the house we never heard each other. Also we were able to use the little library room off the kitchen as a play area, which kept the toys out of the way. While we wish we had better weather during our stay, we still had a great time in this well stocked home.

    Wonderful Chatham Home

My family enjoyed this house to the fullest! It has a warm and inviting energy and everything you need to be comfortable. The yard is private and peaceful. The doors to the deck bring the outside in and the deck itself is a terrific place to relax. We were all so comfortable and happy here. The first floor master bedroom is large and lovely. The bed is comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. The kids loved having the upstairs to themselves. All around a terrific vacation! Margaret is a pleasure to be in touch with, attentive and helpful. show more show less

    Just Perfect

Our family rented for two weeks in August and had a wonderful time. The house is well maintained, clean and cozy. The internet/wifi was awesome. I mention this because my husband worked some mornings and depended on it. The location could not have been any better. We walked to the pond daily for swimming at the private beach. We biked and ran on the trails. The kids were excited to be able to bike to town, Schoolhouse Ice Cream, and the Chatham Bakery. The backyard is big and private with gorgeous flowers and plants. Margaret and Stuart were wonderful hosts. show more show less

    Relaxing

This was my first time renting in Chatham...perfect town on the Cape!

The home is lovely and large with a great fenced in yard and flowers all around. The deck is great for just relaxing. When we arrived, there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the dining table to greet us! The master suite is perfect with French doors to lead out to the spacious deck and yard. The neighborhood is very peaceful and private with the airport and walking/biking trail right around the corner. It was a wonderful vacation and I hope to return next summer! show more show less

    This is the place!

We felt at home as soon as we walked into this house. It is spacious, yet has a cozy feel to it. Everything you might need is there too, including books, games and puzzles for a rainy day. The fenced in back yard is huge. There are lovely perennials and shrubs everywhere.

The house is in a quiet year round neighborhood. It is close to town, the main highways and the bike path. It is well maintained and clean. The first day we were there, Margaret, the owner, checked in with us, just to make sure everything was ok.

Will definitely be returning for another stay.

    First Vacation with Our Pups

We had a wonderful time in this home. Everyone, including our pups, Teagan and Dutch, enjoyed hanging out in the wonderful fenced in backyard. This home had everything we needed; a complete and well-stocked kitchen, a fire pit, three full baths, toys and plenty of space to roam for the dogs, an outdoor shower, NESN for the Sox games, and a great puzzle we worked on for days. My husband and I enjoyed the private master bedroom suite and the children enjoyed their own space with the bedrooms and separate bath upstairs. I would rent this home again year after year. show more show less

Stuart and I have lived in our home since 1979. I am Cape born and Stuart moved to the Cape when he was a small child. Our family grew up in this house, three children (two girls and a boy), five dogs (Sis, Suzy, Scoter, Tuck and Tiggs) and seven cats(Max, Buggsie, Winkin, Blink, Buster, Boyo, and Abbycat). Stuart's mother lived with us for 6 years. We loved being a multi-generational family living in one dwelling and we love sharing our home with other families, and their dogs. It reminds us of all the good times we had when the whole family was in residence.
