This cottage has been in my family for fifty-three years. It started out as a shell and my handyman father worked on it, over the weekends, for years, as my mother and I did the ''gopher'' work. A wraparound deck and sliders were added about fifteen years later. Improvements were made over the years. Originally, we had no telephone as it was truly a ''weekend escape''. My father and I would go to First Encounter Beach every Sunday morning and watch the jets, from Otis Air Force Base, ''bomb'' the James L. Longstreet with sandbags. My parents most prized possession was the cottage and their love of Cape Cod, particularly Eastham, was passed on to my wife and I, and our daughters
What is special about this property?
The cottage is in a great location. It is close to seven bay side beaches, the bike trail, Great Pond, Herring Pond, Wylie Park, and The Seashore National Park. There is a walking trail almost adjacent to the property on Samoset. Sitting on the wraparound deck and reading, at the end of the day, is a special way to end the day. On Mondays, during the summer, there are free concerts, on ''The Green'', at the Windmill. A ten minute drive gets you to the Wellfleet Drive-in. It is such wonderful ''change of pace'' place to be. It's almost like a ''Hallmark Movie'', set during the summer
What is special about your town?
Eastham is the ''Old Cape''. It is slow moving, relaxed, and not at all commercialized. Orleans is right nearby and has everything you need, as far as shopping. Eastham, Wellfleet, and Truro, are where people go to truly unwind. The beaches are beautiful and the bay side water is warm. The tidal pools, at lowtide, are so much fun for kids, parents and grandparents alike. It is Paradise, as I tell my friend who now lives there year round.
