Description

This 4 bedroom, 2 full bath home was built in 1960. Well maintained and updated throughout, this quaint Cape Cod cottage from the front will surprise you. It has a wrap around deck on the first level overlooking the tranquil and secluded Widow Harding Pond along with terraced gardens and a patio below.

This year-round home is surrounded by Pines, Oaks and Japanese Maples. Located nearby (within 1 mile) are First Encounter Beach, Wiley Park and other town conservation land/trails, Cape Cod Rail Trail (Bike path). Easy access to the National Seashore, local grocery, deli and liquor store, emergency & town services and Eastham's Windmill Green, where various festivals and concerts take place throughout the year.

Imagine spending the day at the beach, shopping or visiting other venues like Whale Watching in P'town, and coming home to a secluded drive where the family can enjoy a nice meal and unwind from the day. Or enjoy the day resting and relaxing on the property.

Enjoy the sunrise over Widow Harding Pond with your cup of coffee/tea/chai on the deck or down by the pond. Relax in a corner or room to read, meditate, journal or listen/watch the wildlife.

Bring your canoe or kayak - there is a private access to Widow Harding Pond which is adjacent to the town conservation area. You can also head down to First Encounter and go through the marsh.

Wonderful Memories

The house and grounds were well kept, and provided plenty of room to experience some alone time as well as great space for the family to gather. The kitchen had everything a seasoned cook could possibly need! The small kettle pond allowed family members to paddle board, fish, swim or just sit and relax. The owner was extremely responsive, and we would highly recommend renting this property for your family vacation.

Our week was amazing and we are already looking forward to next year! show more show less

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful

This spacious house went above our expectations - from its perfect location near First Encounter and Herring Pond, to its beautiful and playful pond front, to its well-appointed interior. The house is incredibly comfortable, lots of space and everything you need, and even air conditioners for the stray hot night. Sunrise over the pond is incredible! We have several families that meet up on the Cape each year - the only question is who will rent this house next year.

Love this Eastham Home

Overall we really love this house. The setting overlooking the pond is probably the #1 feature and the amount of room we have inside is the next best feature. We also love that it feels like a home that is well cared for, not just a rental property for the main purpose of renting. Our kids love paddle boarding on the pond, and my brother-in-law loves to get up early and fish; my wife & I just like relaxing on the deck. We've been coming here a few years and really have no complaints. It's always clean and well stocked with everything we need and more. show more show less

Our stay at this wonderful home

We had a marvelous vacation at this home. The property location is fantastic with the beautiful pond at the end of the spacious backyard. The sun rises directly over the pond. The home is spacious and comfortable and had everything you would need for a perfect vacation. The three bedrooms upstairs and the one downstairs allows even a big family enough space and comfort. The large deck and view couldn't be better for morning coffee or an evening dinner.

Wonderful Stay at Dirk's Drive

We had a wonderful stay at Dirk's drive. The house was perfect for our group, it was very spacious, clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed (sheets, towels, extra blankets and pillows, etc.). I was there with my sisters and some friends and it was the perfect location. We walked to First Encounter beach, and loved that we were right on a pond as well. It was also right off of Rte. 6 and so easy to find, but far enough from the main road that it felt like a private getaway. Dean was wonderful to work with and I would certainly stay here again. No complaints, we had a wonderful weekend! show more show less

Gorgeous, private family retreat space

From the moment we pulled into the driveway of this lovely home nestled off of Samoset Road, we didn't want our vacation to end! The home itself welcomed us with comfortable and personal touches from the braided rugs and shelves full of books to the lovely art on the walls. It also had more than enough space for my husband and I and our two energetic kids--as if the back deck, the woods, and the pond weren't enough. My husband and I spent mornings lingering over breakfast at the table with the deck view, watching birds come and go. Our oldest child spent much of his time by the pond examining the little carnivorous plants and gathering pine cones, and our youngest ran everywhere outside among the trees. It was so quiet we felt we were the only people for miles . . . very peaceful and relaxing.

One of the best parts is that it was so close to First Encounter Beach which was a beautiful place for our family to play and a great history lesson for our children. We also enjoyed a few of the great local restaurants, all within a short drive. But we honestly could have stayed on the property the whole time we were there and had a great time!

Dean had everything in the home arranged meticulously with all the information we needed about the property and surrounding area and was very responsive to our inquiries. We would love to return in the future because it is a special place and our family made such great memories there. As one of my kids put it, "I want to go back there again . . . it's very homey and warm."

A Restorative Retreat to Return To

Our stay in this home was like being on a small group retreat! The idyllic woodland setting was such a perfect get-a-way for rest and relaxation, we had to remind ourselves to go site-seeing! Embraced by a view of nature seen from each window, we felt akin to Henry David Thoreau on Walden Pond! We spent plenty of time sitting on the deck or down by the pond with a glass of wine taking in the quiet and watching the native birds.

When ready for a bit of fun offsite, we were close to the beaches - First Encounter Beach is just a short walk up Samoset Road and the National Seashore is a short drive away. There were plenty of shops in Eastham and the neighboring towns to browse through. Eating out was great too. One night we dined at The Fairway, a great family-owned restaurant in North Eastham, a destination to return to next time for sure. We bought lobster twice at a local market in Orleans but brought it home since this home's kitchen is outfitted for a lobster feast! Since the house has Wi-Fi, we googled instructions to add to what the market owner told us.

All in all, this is the type of retreat and home-base to book once a year in advance, especially as word gets out! We'd stay here again in a heartbeat - perhaps with a different focus with each trip - like biking the CC Rail Trail or taking the ferry to Nantucket and the Vineyard, for starters!

Beautiful Home, Location, Wonderful Vacation

We first want to thank Dean for allowing this beautiful home to be our home for the week (and to apologize for not writing this review sooner)! This is a very special home... my family fell in love with it, and the location is perfect. Dean thought of everything, including a wonderful and informative welcome packet! It is well-stocked, spotless, and is even better in person! Our little Maltese loved it, too - and there was a place for everything for him as well - we all felt very welcome! />
We loved waking up to the sunrise just over the pond outside our bedroom window, riding our bikes just a short ride to the rail trail, the National Seashore, and First Encounter Beach. We hiked in the neighborhood with our little pup, went kayaking on the pond, and enjoyed beautiful sunsets at First Encounter Beach. Truro Beach and Provincetown are an easy drive and a great way to enjoy a day. And it was always lovely to return to this home, read a book, and relax on the beautiful deck with such a glorious view. My only hesitation in recommending this house is that you might book it before me! This is a fabulous home in a great location on the Cape and we look truly forward to returning!

Wonderful vacation spot

My family had a wonderful vacation in this spacious home. The house was very clean, well maintained, and comfortable. It was perfect for the 7 of us. One of our favorite areas was the large deck and patio area that overlooked the nicely landscaped yard and pond. We spent a lot of time here relaxing and having cook outs. We also enjoyed the central location of Eastham, and the easy access to the beaches and bike trails. We had a lovely stay, and I would not hesitate to spend more time here. Dean, you were a great host and made us feel very welcomed. show more show less

I started renting this property in 2014 after my elderly family member, who lived here for 46 years, had to move to assisted living. We decided that she should stay on the Cape in familiar surroundings and be able to visit her favorite beaches and sites.
Am renting the place to help pay the costs of assisted living and keep the place in the family. I have been coming to the Cape since I was a young kid. Went to college at Cape Cod Community College and Bridgewater State. Have been caring and maintaining our place for the past 2 decades and love coming to enjoy the beauty and serenity of our place and its surroundings.

What is special about this property?
This property was purchased in 1967. It's location on a pond, the privacy and abundance of wildlife were and remain the best attributes. We are less than a mile from First Encounter Beach and the Cape Cod Bike Trail and about 1.5 miles from the National Seashore and Nauset Marsh. The sun and moon rise over the pond. At night you can sit on the deck and see various star constellations. From time to time you'll see a fox, raccoon, wild turkey, red tail hawks and numerous song birds. You can swim, kayak or just by the pond and enjoy the solitude it offers. Only a few homes are on the pond, the rest is town conservation land with hiking trails.

What is special about your town?
Eastham is the start of the National Seashore and all it has to offer. Our place is between the bay and ocean sides, conveniently located near the Eastham Windmill green where various festivals and musical programs occur throughout the season. The Cape Cod Bike Trail is close by and offers many miles of adventures and sights.
