We are so happy that we came upon this amazing property! My family and I booked the Gatsby to celebrate a significant birthday and we were also looking for a place to relax from an eventful year. We could not have found a better fit for us! Gatsby is grand yet so warm and welcoming with breathtaking views of the sound. Our dear friends joined us and one of them is an artist. Everyday, she sat on the terrace and expansive grounds painting the natural beauty of the property. Gatsby is a magical place from another time. We really enjoyed every moment and look forward to returning next summer. Thank you to the owners for having this exceptional property with its very cool history to share with us!

Our family of 17 had a great week! Walked to Forest Beach, drove to Oyster and School House ponds, rode bikes in PTown, ate scallops, lobsters, steamers, grilled pizzas, tacos, each family had a night to cook. Found everything we needed. In the front yard we flew a kite, had a slip and side, played soccer, baseball and tag. Plenty of room, dinning room table seated all of us, great reunion!

We rented this property for a week to host our wedding! Family & friends stayed with us before & after the wedding day. The house itself is beautiful! You cannot find a property that is more "quintessential Cape Cod," which is exactly what we wanted for our special day & week! The property's caretaker, Carver, lives on site & helped make our experience perfect! He was available to answer questions & assist whenever needed. He made us feel like the success of our wedding day was important to him, which we so appreciated. The wedding took place in the back yard, which is simply gorgeous with a view of the ocean! Carver is extremely attentive to the grounds, which are immaculate! We could not have found a more perfect property to host our wedding. We are so thankful for the property, & for Carver, both of which we'll remember fondly for the rest of our lives!

Amazing house, super relaxing location, we hit the beach every day - cooked lobster, kids played on the lawn, everyone had a great time.

The owners went the extra mile to make sure our stay was a great one, and they were always easy to reach for help with anything.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Our Great Gatsby! Even before we arrived, Carver (the house caretaker) was available to provide information related to kitchen appliances and the house set up for our multi-generational Thanksgiving gathering.

The house had plenty of space for all of us - ranging from 14-20 throughout the long weekend. The house was stocked with soap, toilet paper and dish soap. There were plenty of parking spaces. We also really enjoyed the front lawn for little kids to run around, the deck to sit on (the sun made it warm enough) and the easy walk to the beach. The long dining room table along with an additional table made it possible for us to have a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner together. There were plenty of pots and pans, dishes and platters.

Carver made sure we had a full gas tank for the grill and when it ran out after two hours, he ran out to get two more just to make sure we had enough gas - really above and beyond.

The heating system seems to be fairly old so if you do rent the house in the winter, bring extra blankets as not all of the rooms seemed to get very warm, despite turning up the heat. On the other hand, some of the rooms were very comfortable and toasty warm! Carver brought us a space heater to make sure our oldest family member, the 93 year old matriarch, was comfortable in her room.

The house has lots of charm and the library was a big attraction. The big living room filled with warm sunshine during most of the days. That was the room where we all hung out the most. In addition to the big semi-circle couch there are several comfortable wicker couches and chairs so there were always plenty of seats for everyone.

The big dining room and kitchen were also places we gathered informally - lots of spaces for conversations and playing games. We loved the location and were able to take walks not only to the beach but also to the rail trail for walking or riding (not crowded at all this time of year) and it was easy to drive to Chatham or Harwich/port to shop.

The wifi worked well given that there were many of us using it. Several of us worked while we were there - and for the most part the wifi worked fine. For a Zoom call, I used a hotspot on my phone but for regular work I didn't need the hotspot. Also, the smart tv worked perfectly - allowing us to enjoy many movies together.

Carver's passion about the history of the house came through and it was fun to get to know him and he is a great story teller. We thoroughly enjoyed his stories about the Bishop family who built the house and their relationship with Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Definitely recommend visiting and staying in Our Great Gatsby - gave it a four star rating because of the heating system (if a house is listed to be rented in the cold weather, it is assumed that the heat will be adequate for all of the rooms available) as well as the second sink in the prep kitchen not working at the time we were there. Given the size of our crowd we had expected to have access to that sink for our cooking prep. We of course managed - but I wanted to explain why I did not give a five star rating.

Gatsby is a classic home with a gracious nod to old Cape Cod. It is a treasure for those wishing to gather families and the perfect backdrop for smaller venues. The owners were delightful and the caretaker Carver could not have been more helpful to our family. He was professional and polite and quick to help. We all felt he was part of the family.
My daughters wedding was held here and all of us felt we could not have found a more perfect place. It felt like home. The views are stunning. The property is in a wonderful location. You can't help but feel the majesty, the romance, in the history of the place. Their are not many houses left like this one. It is a true treasure. In my heart I want to go back!!!! And everyone who came fell in love with the Gatsby House too! Thank you so so very much! I hope to be back one day soon. We all do :)

We had a wonderful week at the Great Gatsby with our large extended family. We had been apart for over a year and it was fantastic to all be together.

The caretaker - Carver- was there to answer any questions and was a wealth of information. The house itself is fantastic. If you are looking for a true Cape Cod experience to share with family, this is the house for you! Chatham and Harwich are close by and all in all the location is ideal!

We spent 10 days at GG and hosted our daughter's Wedding Rehearsal Dinner (outdoor Cape Cod Clam Bake) - and it was perfect! Coming from Texas, it was a thrill for us, and our guests to hear stories about the history of this authentic mansion.

It slept 15 of us comfortable, and allowed us to enjoy the back lawn and deck with the gorgeous views.

John (owner) was delight, and Carver (caretaker) were the best!

We have come full circle through "Our Great Gatsby" treasure on the Cape. We stayed here when we celebrated our wedding five years ago where we learned of the amazing history of the home. Many famous writers frequented here enjoying the lavish dinners and parties of their gracious hosts. I imagine the parties often spilled out onto the extensive, well-manicured grounds. The positive energy and thoughts of its history is exciting and palpable.
My husband, who is now writing his first book had to return to the Gatsby to absorb this energy as he completed the draft of his soon-to-be best seller! The two of us stayed in this expansive and well-appointed home for another two weeks so he could write while he looked out the window and admired the yard and beautiful ocean views.
The home's caretaker, Carver, is the best caretaker any homeowner could ask for. Always going above and beyond, Carver was a blessing and ensured our stay was not only comfortable but exceptional. He anticipated questions and had the answers! He also guided us to the stores, fish markets and restaurants remaining open during the winter "off-season". Who gets this kind of service when renting a house on the Cape? Our Great Gatsby does and we'll be back again.

Our great family vacation at Our Gatsby was fantastic. John, the owner, was a pleasure and Carver, the care taker of the property, was so welcoming and we loved his sharing of the home's amazing history. The views of the ocean and grounds from the back deck are a great way to start and end your day. The free beach and tennis are both a short walk, bike ride or car ride away. Our Gatsby will not disappoint! We highly recommend!

I am so happy I choose this beautiful spot for our family reunion. Nine adults and nine children from age 13 to 10 months fit so comfortably in this special home. We loved the great lawn to play games, the spacious patio for our family dinners, and the lovely view of the water for our cocktails! Traveling to the beach and tennis courts nearby was so easy, even the little ones usually walked. The kitchen was well stocked for all our cooking needs and all the beds were comfortable. The weather was great for our week, but we were happy to have the room air-conditioners. Carver, the caretaker, and John, the owner, were always available if we needed them. Wonderful memories were made and we all can't wait to come back!

I wasn't going to write a review for selfish reasons. My family takes forever to make plans and I am very worried it will be booked up and we will not get to stay next year, but the Owner John and Caretaker Carver are so great I just didn't think it was fair not to share the amazing experience we had. We almost lost our dad in January -- btw if you have older parents, this is definitely the place to take them. They have not stopped talking about it since we arrived. They were calling all their friends inviting them down. The house brought them back in time. But then again if you have teenagers or young kids, this is definitely the place to be. The kids were up at night having a blast upstairs while the parents were downstairs in the master and didn't hear a peep! I loved everything about this house and every second being in it! I recommend staying here without reservation!

We are an extended family of twenty who get together once a year. This year the charmer, Our Great Gatsby, in Chatham was our choice, and it turned out to be perfect for our large group! Everyone had a bed, a place around the dining room table, and a spot on the half-circle couch. The kitchen was especially well stocked with everything we needed, and the air conditioner in each bedroom was much appreciated. It was such a pleasure each morning to sit on the porch with a cup of coffee, and watch the birds and sailboats on the water! It was an easy walk to the lovely, uncrowded beach, and a brief car ride into town. This was one of our best reunions ever, and we will definitely consider returning in future years. Many thanks to both the owners and the caretaker, Carver!

We just spent a fabulous 4 day weekend here for our son's wedding. My husband and I hosted the rehearsal dinner, a lobster clambake on the lawn for 70 people. (Would highly recommend Clambakes Etc, they did a fantastic job!). We had 15 family and friends stay for the weekend. What a wonderful way to spend time together!

The Great Gatsby has a large living room, dining room and kitchen. The house was so comfortable and roomy. It was so great to all be together in such a beautiful spot. The lawn was great for entertaining, yard games and barbecuing. The views are just beautiful!

Carver, the home's caretaker, was very responsive to any questions we had. He was always immediately available. Carver shared with us many stories of the famous writers who have spent time here. So much character!

Our son's wedding was held at the Wychmere Beach Club, less than 3 miles away. We were very easily able to all Uber back and forth.

We stayed at Our Great Gatsby for a week for a family reunion and loved it. We had 20 people for much of the time and there was room for everyone. We even fit around the dining room table with the addition of an extra table at the end, plenty of chairs, dishes and flatware, although we were glad we had brought disposable plastic cups. The interior of the house had just been painted and the master bath upgraded, it was delightful. The living room was perfect for lounging with everyone, and the huge front lawn was put to good use by the kids. It was the perfect Cape Cod spot for our family reunion. Carver, the caretaker, was wonderfully helpful when necessary. He lives over the garage so is usually there if you need him. We highly recommend this house for large groups.

My fiancee and I stayed at Our Great Gatsby with our families the night before our wedding ceremony. When we arrived, the house was warm, spotless, and inviting! The caretaker of the home walked us through each room and told us the history of the home and its first owners. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and homes surrounding The Gatsby house.

The layout of the house is quite charming with 9 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and plenty of space for lounging, cooking, and mealtimes... A white sandy beach is visible from the yard and multiple balconies as well as within walking distance which was definitely a bonus!

My wife and I are already planning our next trip to Our Great Gatsby home on the Cape! I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life!

We have enjoyed family reunions on the Cape for the past 11 years. During that time our family has expanded from 12 to 22. Needless to say, we have outgrown many places, but Our Great Gatsby fits us perfectly. The huge lawn gives the kids plenty of space to run without fearing for their safety. Joan and John make it easy to reserve, and Carter, the full time Caretaker, is available to answer any question. I really would love to know more about the history of the house. If only the walls had ears I suspect there would be great stories from F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.

Our Great Gatsby was an ideal spot for our family reunion. It offered plenty of space for all 16 of us - aged 3 to 70+. The house location on a dead end street made for welcome quiet, nice wildlife and better safety for the grandchildren.

The outdoor terrace facing the water was a favorite place for outdoor summer dining. The lawn in front of the terrace was big enough for baseball, frisbee games and just running around.

Carver, the superintendent, is an invaluable resource. He maintains the property well and has sound recommendations about dining, swimming options, renting sailboats, etc. He knows the area well!

A grand old mansion! We had a fun filled week!

In a nutshell, things could not have gone better! And trust me, if you are looking for size, charm, location, beauty AND an excellent and friendly person who will be there to greet and help you, book this property! We had my daughter's wedding here in May of 2016, and aside from the joyous occasion itself (of course), this was a great, comfortable and homey place to spend a week!

I have spent many vacations on the Cape and for all of the factors that matter, this is worth it and then some! Carver, the caretaker and host, is the perfect person to help you throughout, while leaving you to enjoy your time with your guests. I am going to book again to relive BOTH the wedding splendor AND the charm and beauty of this great 'Great Gatsby' home!

My wife and I chose Our Great Gatsby house as the perfect wedding site for our intimate, family wedding, and we could not have asked for a better rental. The property owners, John and Joan, were informative, kind, and quite personable, making it feel as though we were invited and welcomed guests into their home. The onsite property manager and grounds keeper, Carver, is truly a gem who does an impeccable job at maintaining the grounds and house. He worked diligently to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and never hesitated to assist us with anything!

The house itself is a beautiful structure that makes you feel as though you are in an elegant and classy era. It is fully stocked with all needed amenities and kitchen items to assist with hosting a wedding, reunion, or special event. With all of our family there, it truly felt like a home that we would never want to part with. It is also located a short and beautiful walk from the beach, which adds to the enjoyment of all in this part of Cape Cod.

I highly recommend renting this house for any occasion and know that my wife and I will be back in the coming years to celebrate our anniversary in such a beautiful spot and lovely home.

This gorgeous property has been our annual retreat for the past 3+ years. 19 of us bring our bikes to cycle the Old Colony Rail Trail where we stop for lunch or the local farmers market and continue on towards the beaches. Or take a short stroll to Forest Beach. Or hang out back at The Great Gatsby house to sit outside to read a book and look at the view of the ocean engulfed in the colorful landscaping (I have pics). The yard is well manicured with a variety of sitting locations in the shade or sun.The inside of the house you can see from the photos - it is a sunny, warm, and inviting house. The 19 of us sit around the dining room table over dinner and wine chatting and laughing about the days events.

We will be back again -next year - cheers.

We combined our 40th Anniversary vow renewal with a family reunion. It was a great week and the house was perfect for our needs. The ceremony on the lawn was beautiful! Carver and Tara were wonderful - making sure we had all we needed. There was space enough for everyone to gather and also spread out to have quiet time to read a book or take a snooze. The beach is a short distance away and great for kids. We all (reluctantly!) left with memories to last a lifetime.

We recently returned from a family reunion with all of my in-laws gathered for mom's 80th birthday. This house was large enough for all 19 of us to sleep and gather comfortably. There is plenty of space outside for evening dinners where we found the view to be spectacular. The walk to the beach is only 5-10 minutes and we found the view of Nantucket Sound was beautifully filled with sailboats, etc. The caretaker was very responsive to our requests and we enjoyed our stay very much.

My family and I stayed at the Great Gatsby, 13 of us total including 2 young kids. We had a wonderful time... The house exceeded our needs. We spent a lot of our time outside on the large porch, which overlooks the expansive grassy (and beautifully landscaped) lawn, and beyond that are lovely ocean views. It felt private and secluded and we were overall very pleased with the accommodations. Also worth noting: the caretakers were beyond pleasant, very welcoming, and made us feel right at home!

This was truly the most beautiful and comfortable place our writing group (Essex Writers and Artists Guild) has had the pleasure of holding our Fall Writing Retreat. 1930's magic, large accommodating living room with working fireplace, many sitting areas, floor-to-ceiling windows and doors that lead out to a lovely deck, views of the marsh and ocean, huge formal dining that allowed 13 of us to eat together with room for more. Magnificent master suite, lots of bedrooms and bathrooms for one and all. The owners were wonderfully accommodating, generous, and kind. I highly recommend this place for any sort of gathering whether it be family, friends or business groups. One-of-kind experience.

My family has actually stayed at this lovely home three times and everything is as described. The house is located on a quiet private road, and the setting is wonderful. The three sets of old fashioned french doors (in photo) open from the living room onto a large deck and flat lawn area with a view of the ocean. The house is well maintained and decorated in a charming and comfortable manner, and the kitchen easily accommodates large groups -- there's even a big pantry room with an extra sink and fridge. There's lots of fun stuff, a little library room filled with books, two bedrooms open onto their own private balcony, two of the upstairs bedrooms are connected by a little secret passage, and the downstairs master bedroom and big bathroom connect to a smaller bedroom with twin beds. We have enjoyed some really good times here together and hope to return again.

A beautiful house with excellent and abundant sleeping arrangements, large living, dining and kitchen. Perfect for a large group and for a party. Gorgeous view. Couldn't do any better anywhere.

We rented this beautiful home with our extended family to have a family Christmas and New Year's celebration. The house is huge and filled with character, charm and Cape Cod tradition. There's loads of nooks and crannies so we could be together in the living room while our little ones were napping in one of the several bedrooms. The view of Nantucket Sound is absolutely spectacular! And, even though it was winter, we were only a short 10 minute walk from the beach where we enjoyed many beautiful sunsets. This house is perfect for an extended family get together or a group of friends vacationing in Chatham. A great find!!!

Months spent viewing properties on websites was well rewarded with our choice of Gt. Gatsby for its location, accommodation and atmosphere. Our three weeks spent there with family and friends was that "once in a lifetime" experience, expensive but worth it. It's an eccentric mixture of shabby chic and "Big (beach) House" rough and tumble which suited us perfectly - large enough to allow space to do your own thing, get away from kids or congregate for card-playing/jigsaw puzzling. We dined in style in the evening, with anything from eight to sixteen around the table. Breakfast was more the rolling, make more coffee when the pot is empty style of easy-going arrangement. Mis-matched crockery and wonky toasters only added to the holiday vibe, with bagels doing better in the oven. Relaxing on the deck in the evening, on return from a bracing swim and outdoor shower, with a drink in hand, surrounded by family and friends, is an abiding and valued memory.

The house location is great for exploring Chatham and the Atlantic coast beaches, the ferries for Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard further afield, and of course for all that grocery shopping nearby. I would advise doing those trips early in your vacation as by the time Great Gatsby works its magic on you, all you will want to do is grab your towel and wander around to the Forest Beach and spend your time there, with other locals, swimming or sunbathing as time and tide allow!

This year we will celebrate our 20th year of gathering at Our Great Gatsby (which really does feel like *Our* Great Gatsby) to celebrate the New Year with an extended group of old friends. We first rented the home in December 1993, when we were graduate school students, friends, and friends of friends. Over the past two decades we've returned year after year - through marriages, kids, and now teenagers soon to be off to college themselves. We return because we love the setting, we love the combination of open and intimate space the house offers, and most of all we love to cook a large meal every night and seat everyone around the enormous dining room table. The super sized kitchen accommodates large cooking crews, 24/7 bread baking, and epic games of Boggle. And the spacious and comfortable living room provides ample space for charades, dancing, or several people to nap or read on the cozy couches simultaneously. During the day, it's a short and scenic walk to the nearby beach. At night, each family has their favorite sleeping room, but the kids particularly like to have sleepovers in the "bunk room" upstairs, and to play hide and seek in the nooks and crannies of this unique space. Our Great Gatsby has become a tradition and a home away from home for our extended chosen family. We encourage any large gathering to create their own memories there.
