About Trad-Stroll Woods Hole...The Stroll begins at Community Hall with a lecture and demonstration on Morris Dancing. It then shifts to the top of Water Street and moves along through the village where you will hear a dozen traditional music groups play. Have a bite to eat then end the day taking to the floor of the Community Hall to twirl to the music of the Woods Hole Folk Orchestra. All music is free. The schedule of performances will be on posters and post cards around town and available at the event. A copy of this page may be downloaded below.
Thanks to WHOI and MBL, there will be Free parking on Dyer's Dock on Water Street, and at WHOI's Challenger House on Woods Hole Road and in the Institution's School Street and Shivericks Lots. Parking will also be available in the Water Street MBL lot. Please look for the signs.

In conjunction with ArtsBoston, Jan Elliott will offer a special presentation on the colorful cultural history of Morris Dancing with demonstrations by the Vineyard Swordfish dancers and perhaps an opportunity to participate.

Jonathan Larkin, Fugan Dineen and Aaron Mayo perform music from Southwest Louisiana on accordion, guitar and percussion. Growing out of the French migration from eastern Canada in the 18th Century, the French music, and the roots of the language, live on there into the 21st Century.
3:30 to 4:30, Solstice Singers, Bank of Martha’s Vineyard, 2 Water Street.

4 to 5 PM, Cat’s Melodeon, Coffee Obsession porch, 38 Water Street.
Cat’s Melodeon, led by Bill Black, specializes in Irish traditional music, played on fiddle, flute, recorder, accordion, banjo, guitar, uilleann pipes, and bodhrán, a goat-skin frame drum. The group’s name comes from a local expression in Ireland’s County Mayo and refers (among other things) to an informal get-together for enjoyable purposes.

4:30 to 5:30. Nikki and BobKat, Water Street Kitchen, 56 Water Street
Celtic trio Nikki and the Bobkats will play traditional jigs, reels, and songs on fiddle, drums, guitar and voice. Nikki Engstrom will be on fiddle, Robert Emmet Dunlap is on guitar and vocals, and Kathi Taylor is on drums and vocals. Nikki is an accomplished, award-winning fiddler who performs concerts throughout the year. Robert founded numerous local rock bands in Boston in his youth and has worked as s guitarist, singer, and songwriter in both the US and Ireland. Kathi has been playing drums professionally for over 30 years, performing in the US and Europe.

Black Whydah plays Irish, folk, oldtime, original and popular music, all on things with strings. Jean Sagara and Cathy Hatch will entertain with fiddle tunes and some good old two part harmonies on some of your favorite songs.

Morgan Rattler offers music and song from the Golden Age of Piracy--traditional American, Irish, English and French music from 17th through 20th century, songs relating to seafaring. The group includes Jacek Sulanowski on vocals and bodhran, Barbara Blair on fiddle and whistles, and Ron Geering on hurdy gurdy, concertina and melodeon. The group has performed at the Tall Ships event in Newport, RI, and at the Hyannis Maritime Festival, as well as at the Falmouth Art Market and other local events.
6 to 7 PM, Falmouth Fiddlers, Woods Hole Community Hall
The Falmouth Fiddlers plays and sings old-time, bluegrass, and Celtic fiddle tunes on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, dobro, tin whistle, bodhran, cello, and string bass. They are joined this year by members of the Monday Night Slow Session.

Passacaglia plays a variety of music from the medieval and renaissance eras to the present, mainly from Europe but also from the Middle East and beyond. Their repertoire includes lute songs, madrigals, canzonas, processionals, and traditional music from Turkish melodies to Irish tunes. Passacaglia aims to transport listeners to another time and place, but also to bring ancient music forward, with fresh interpretations and an emphasis on cross-cultural connections. Members are Jan Elliott on recorder, crumhorn, cornamuse, concertina & whistle; Lisa Esperson on percussion; Tom Hanna on lute, guitar, mandolin & bouzouki; and Molly Johnston on viola da gamba and vielle.

The Sonnay Fiddlers is an impressive group of Nikki Engstrom’s fiddle students ranging in age from 5 on up performing a large repertoire of Celtic tunes. Nikki Engstrom is an award-winning fiddler and a member of the Celtic duo Stanley and Grimm. She has performed, competed, and taught throughout New England and Canada.
