Local area attractions/activities include: Mote Marine Lab - where you can visit a dolphin rehab and many other small aquariums with sharks etc....
St. Armands Circle, shopping dining and Lido Beach are very close by.
Biking, walking, sailing, boating, kayaking, parasailing, fishing, windsurfing, sightseeing boat tours and dinner cruises off Marina Jack’s restaurant.
Miniature Golf and Jungle Gardens is also nearby (less than 10 minutes away) as is Ringling Museum of Art & History, Circus Museum, Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island, Bradenton beaches, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Osolo Theatre, Golden Apple dinner theater, dining & shopping downtown Sarasota with a large 20 screen theater on Main St. There is also a Farmer’s Market, with fresh fruits/veggies each Saturday morning, downtown.
There is also a new main st at Lakewood ranch, which also has restaurants, theater, candy shop and ice cream shop.
Sarasota South has Siesta Key known for its white sandy beaches. There are many beach accesses which are more private than the public beach (look for the small signs) and Siesta Village with shopping, restaurants, etc...a good place to walk.
Spanish point historic site - Osprey, Oscar Scherer State Park and Venice are all great day trips.
Also check out Venice Beach and both Jetty's north and south and the Venice Pier. Venice is about 30-40 minutes away but worth the trip they also have a beach, which allows dogs - and dolphins can usually be seen at the pier at dusk. If you get a chance cruise down to Casey key, you'll enjoy the coastal views, along with its winding roadway, and multi-million dollar homes.
Out east: Sarasota
Myakka State Park where you can bike or walk the trails, see Alligators in there natural habitat be sure to visit ''The Canopy'' (a neat wooden walking bridge and a observing area with vast aerial views of the State Park...)
Crowley Nature Center, Old Myakka historic area, Lake Manatee State Park, Lipizzaner Stallions, Lakewood Ranch Polo Center, Oak Ford Golf Course, Tatum Golf Course, Lakewood Ranch downtown, horseback riding, riding, fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing - Alligators, hiking, golf, tennis, antiquing in Arcadia, canoeing.
Anna Marie Island and Pier - less than an hour, Bush Gardens, Adventure Island - Tampa Bay about an hour and Orlando Disney, Epcot, MGM, Universal, etc...Approx. 2 1/2 hours, and Ft. Myers an hour and 15 min., Sanibel Island, Captive about two hours and the Florida Aquarium Tampa about an hour all would make a great day trips. |
