Guide to Bonita Springs vacation rentals

Bonita Springs is in a beautiful, natural area just north of Naples in Southwest Florida.

Bonita Springs started as a small fishing village that survived on proceeds made selling salted fish to Cuban traders from beachside thatched huts. The city has grown but retains many Old Florida homes, cypress trees and dangling Spanish moss which give Bonita Springs a refreshing blend of old Southern charm and modernity.

Today Bonita Springs, known as The Gateway to the Gulf, attracts visitors to some of the most beautiful beaches and islands along the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to the beaches, Bonita Springs offers rivers, bays and finger canals that are excellent for outdoor recreation, and provide a scenic backdrop for natural pursuits. Boating, swimming, fishing, golfing, tennis and biking are available to those who enjoy an active lifestyle.

Bonita Springs, along with its sister city, Bonita Beach, have miles of beautiful, white sand beaches. Barefoot Beach, which includes a 342-acre preserve, was named one of the nation’s top beaches by a nationally known expert on beaches and coastlines. The beach is in Collier County just south of the Lee County line. Lovers Key State Park in Bonita Springs was the most visited state park in Florida in the fiscal 2006, the state’s Department of Environmental Protection has announced. An estimated 970,000 people visited the park during that time.

Canals wind through neighborhoods, connecting to bays and the Gulf of Mexico offering the fishing enthusiast a variety of backwater and offshore experiences. Nature lovers will find birds, turtles, manatee and various wildlife as well as a variety of tropical foliage.

There are also extensive shopping and dining opportunities, as well. The Promenade is a fine example of a stunning blend of exquisite shops and excellent restaurants in a beautiful setting. Nearby is the Miromar Outlet Mall and the new Coconut Point Mall. Popular on weekends is The Flamingo Island Flea Market – a something for everyone shopping experience.

Bonita Springs is also home to a wide variety of entertainment options as well as art museums and galleries, The nearby Germain Arena hosts many of the world’s most popular shows and entertainers and is home to The Florida Everblades hockey team. One of the area's most enduring attractions makes its home on Bonita Beach Road — the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track. Opened in the 1970s, the track is open daily for greyhound racing, simulcast dog and horse racing, and poker. Further north, along Old 41, the Everglades Wonder Gardens has been dispensing wildlife and botanical wonders since 1936.

The Everglades are a pleasant drive and a must see for naturalists and those whose Florida vacation would not be complete without a sighting of an American Alligator.

Bonita Springs is a friendly, family oriented community, and is a year-round destination for all. In Bonita Springs you'll find, despite the town’s recent growth with upscale residential communities and shopping areas, small-town charm.

Round out your vacation with a visit to Naples, just a short drive to the south, or Fort Myers to the north.
