Over 400 miles of canals make this city a boatersí and fishermen's paradise. It is often thought of as the Gulf Coast's version of Venice, Italy. Many canals lead to the Caloosahatchee River and then to the Intracoastal Waterway and Gulf of Mexico, others to lakes and favorite fishing spots. The Cape Coral Art League holds several outdoor art exhibits yearly in the downtown area. Cultural Park Theatre and Broadway Palm Dinner Theater stage impressive productions all year long. Cape Coralís German-American Social Club is a meeting spot for the many German residents and tourists in the town, and holds Octoberfest and Gardenfest in fall and spring.
