Recently picked as the “#1 Beach in America” by USA Today readers, and selected for the 6th year in a row as the “Best Beach in the South” and “Top Family Destination” by Southern Living Readers, Destin is centrally located in Florida’s Panhandle in an area fondly referred to as “The Emerald Coast.” This gem of a town has it all -- sand like sugar, clear and emerald green Gulf of Mexico waters, and plenty of off-beach activities.
The Destin area is a favorite family vacation spot because of its 24 miles of pristine beaches. Its Gulf beachfront parks on Okaloosa Island – Beasley Park, James Lee Park, Wayside Park and Henderson Beach State Park on Choctawhatchee Bay, along with six beach mini-parks, are ADA accessible and have showers and bathrooms.
Complimenting the beautiful beaches are endless water sports to include fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, and all types of boating.
For the angler, Destin is known as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village" since the city claims five saltwater world records. The waters surrounding Destin are known for their abundance – in Destin’s fruitful waters are found 20 species of edible game fish -- and their challenges. Home to the largest and most elaborately equipped charter boat fleet in Florida, fishing events and festivals are held year-round. Don’t miss the 1,200 foot long Okaloosa fishing pier! It’s lighted for night fishing, as well. Take time to visit the Destin History & Fishing Museum.
Snorkeling is a popular activity as the 100 Fathom curve draws closer to Destin than to any other spot on the Gulf, making inshore snorkeling easy. Underwater shelling is world-renowned and a submerged petrified forest brimming with lobsters, sponges and sea squirts offers unique explorations, as do sunken luxury liners, ships, barges, railroad box cars -- even airplanes. Water sports equipment is readily available for rent up and down the beach.

Big Kahuna’s Water & Adventure Park is wet and wild and a favorite attraction for children, as is the Emerald Coast Science Center, a child’s fantasy museum of science, and The Track Family Fun Center. Gator Beach and the Gulfarium are also family favorites.
Golfing is paired with beautiful scenery in the Destin area. You’ll find a nice choice of 9 and 18 hole courses. There are also miniature golf courses when you want your golfing to be goofy!
If a beach break means going on a shopping spree, visit the many shops, boutiques, malls and outlets all around the area, where you’ll find treasures to suit every taste. Your dining experience while in Destin can include rustic beachside oyster bars or candlelit restaurants – all serving up the freshest of local seafood. Dining waterside brings the added pleasure of watching a spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
Don’t discount Destin as a winter vacation destination. The weather is pleasant enough to partake of most activities and Destin holds many festivals and special events throughout the year.
The U.S. Air Force Armament Museum at nearby Eglin Air Force Base is the only facility in the world dedicated to the display of Air Force armament. It tells the history and development of Air Force armament and instills pride in the role air power has played in the defense of our country.
