The Florida Keys are a 106 mile long chain of islands that extend from the bottom of Florida's mainland and are often referred to as” America's Caribbean.” The islands are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other and driving the length of the chain of Florida Keys means you would travel over 42 bridges. The longest is the 7-mile bridge, which is 35,716 feet long. The shortest is Harris Gap at only 37 feet long.
The main route through the Florida Keys is the Overseas Highway. Each mile is marked and you’ll easily find your destination as most addresses are linked with a mile marker number.
The Keys offer some of the finest fishing and diving in the world, and here is found the only living coral reef in the Continental United States. Landlubbers will find there is also plenty do – the Keys are the home of some of Florida's finest parks and sanctuaries, there are plenty of choices to for shopping for island wear, souvenirs, arts and crafts and dining and nightlife are as diverse as is each Key. The Keys is very laid back - you can always just sit next to the water and sip on a Margarita while listening to your favorite Jimmy Buffett song! A visit to the Keys certainly brings changes in attitude with the changes in latitude!
