The Fort Lauderdale area is where you will find 23 miles of Atlantic Ocean shoreline, from Hollywood Beach in the south to Deerfield Beach in the north.
Fort Lauderdale and its neighboring beach communities offer an endless array of activities for those who wish to enjoy a day of fun in the sun and swimming in the warm Atlantic waters. Stroll, jog, or rollerblade along Fort Lauderdale's palm tree fringed, brick-lined beachfront promenade. Windsurf, jet ski, or even parasail high over the blue-green waters. Although spring-breakers have been encouraged to flock to other Florida beaches, you can still pass by the world famous Elbo Room, site of the 1960's "Where the Boys Are" movie starring George Hamilton and Connie Francis.
Just minutes from the beach is the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District in downtown Fort Lauderdale, home to cultural attractions, shops, parks, and restaurants. Along Riverwalk, the brick-lined meandering promenade, discover the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Discovery and Science with its Blockbuster 3D IMAX Theater, Florida Grand Opera, Old Fort Lauderdale, Museum of Art, and Stranahan House. Stroll Las Olas Boulevard for upscale boutiques, dining, galleries, and entertainment.
Butterfly World offers three acres of lush tropical gardens with thousands of live, brilliantly colored butterflies soaring around. Waterfalls, fish, hummingbirds, an insectarium, orchids and roses complete natural habitat.
Deerfield Beach is a perfect spot to watch the sun rise from its cove-like beaches. Deerfield Beach is the home of the Power Boat races each summer.
Hollywood Beach is known for its casual atmosphere and free entertainment. Bicycle, run or walk along Hollywood's 2 1/2 mile oceanfront boardwalk that parallels the beach. At Young's Circle/Harrison Street you’ll find an artsy, South Beach-like atmosphere, with art galleries, shops, dining and plenty of local entertainers with sidewalk performances. A must see!
Enjoy Pompano Beach's three-and-a-half mile beach, a favorite spot for families to vacation. Here you’ll find playgrounds on the beach, fine seafood, and family style festivities. Named after the saltwater fish abundantly found in the warm Atlantic waters, Pompano is home to an annual Pompano Seafood festival and Fishing Rodeo.
