Guide to Marco Island vacation rentals

See our 5 Marco Island Vacation Rentals.

Marco Island is just four miles wide by six miles long, and the largest of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands located on the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida, just south of Naples. The attraction is tropical sun-washed white beaches, great access to Gulf of Mexico waters, and a casual, easy paced life style. Yet there is plenty to do and see to make your vacation memorable.

There are many residential condominium complexes along the beach which offer vacation rentals. Also popular are canal front homes which offer easy boating access and are close to Marco’s two public beaches, Tigertail and South Marco Beach. Tigertail Beach offers concession stands for food and beverages and water sport equipment, umbrellas, chairs. There are also children's play area volleyball nets, showers and restrooms. There is a nominal fee for parking. South Marco Beach can be accessed either by foot from Collier Boulevard or from the public parking lot.

Marco Island has more than 90 top-notch restaurants where you can dine on fresh local seafood as well as French, German, Italian, Mexican and Chinese cuisine. Before or after dinner, take in the beauty of one of the famous gulf sunsets. Entertainment includes movie theaters, local live theater and entertainment available at local lounges and hotels. There are some 120 retail shops on the island as well as an outlet mall just over the bridge on the mainland.

While Marco Island is considered a world-class destination, it’s hard to ignore the many natural attractions offered here. To the north is the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and its Briggs Memorial Nature Center. To the south lies the sprawling 10,000 Islands with over 70 coastal miles of fly fishing heaven, inhabited only by the tiny fishing villages of Goodland, Everglades City, Chokoloskee and eventually Flamingo. Included in this southerly stretch is Collier-Seminole State Park, the 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, Big Cypress National Preserve and the 5000 square mile Everglades National Park, ensuring continued protection against coastal development.

Boating and fishing are some of the more popular pastimes on Marco Island. Cruising the Ten Thousand Islands means a new adventure on each trip but sailboaters will need to use caution. Florida’s Keys are an easy day’s cruise or sail. A bit offshore, there are fishing opportunities for cobia, tripletail, king mackerel, barracuda, grouper, snapper, shark, and many other species. Fly fisherman find mangrove shores which are home to snook, redfish, tarpon, jack crevalle, seatrout, ladyfish, spanish mackerel, pompano and mangrove snapper.

Visitors to Marco Island will find a visit to nearby Naples a nice complement to their enjoyment of this special island.
