Description

Our sunny and comfortable home is a ten minute drive from the towns of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Abutting the State Forest, you can bird watch while relaxing on the deck. It is 5 miles from State Beach and 6 1/2 miles from South Beach. Located near bicycle trails and the Island shuttle bus route, the house comes with four bicycles and fishing rods.

Skylights, large windows and sliders to the deck infuse the house with light. The first floor has a great room with large flat screen TV with cable and a Sonos sound system, an adjacent dining area, a large, fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with shower which is also accessed by a first floor bedroom with a full size bed and full futon. Washer and dryer are in a closet next to the kitchen. Upstairs, the large master bedroom with a king bed and TV shares a full bathroom with another bedroom with a queen bed. There are ceiling fans in every room and central air conditioning. A wonderful find for a combination of relaxation and fun!

    A fantastic home!

We had a wonderful week at Joan's beautiful home. It was perfectly situated close to the beach, restaurants and other attractions while still being secluded enough to relax and enjoy the quiet when needed. The house had plenty of space and was well appointed, and Joan is an incredibly hospitable host. We hope to return!

    A true Gem

We had the good fortune of spending over a week at this home this past September. The home is so comfortable and well decorated. You will want for nothing in the kitchen. The house has such an easy feeling about it. We actually added 4 days to our vacation because we loved it so much.

    Thank you Joan!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality! You are such an accommodating host. We appreciate the additional emails from you with advice re all the happenings on the Vineyard during our stay. The house and location were perfect! The kitchen is well equipped with everything anyone could need. The deck, yard and surroundings create the feeling of a peaceful retreat, and yet you are just minutes away from town and activities.
We loved the layout of your house; so comfortable and homey.

We appreciated the fenced in yard for our dog, as well as the access
    to the forest for walks.

We truly enjoyed our stay there!
    Thank you !

    Perfect

We absolutely love this house! It was the perfect place for us. Great location, peaceful, but not out of the way. The downstairs bedroom/bath was great for my mom, who prefers to avoid climbing climbing stairs.

Large kitchen and sitting area, beautiful deck, and even a fenced in back yard for the dogs. The house was spotless, and the kitchen has everything we could need. We will definitely return.
    PS. Joan is fantastic.

    Wonderful Martha's Vineyard Experience

This property has everything you will need for a relaxing vacation. It's located in a quiet neighborhood, very convenient to Edgartown, South Beach and Oak Bluffs. There's a well equipped kitchen, lots of seating, sunny patio with all the amenities, and a large fenced in yard for furry fiends. The bathrooms were smaller than expected, but that would not keep us from making this an annual rental.

Beautiful property and the owner is the best I've ever worked with when renting a property. show more show less

Fun family vacation in a great MV home

After a 10 year break from MV family vacations---we finally got back there altogether. We thoroughly enjoyed our early fall stay at your sanctuary. Everything at the home was setup for vacationing and for our WFH family members. Sitting on the back deck, watching and listening to the flurry of varied birds made for a peaceful and relaxing week.

The house is in a central location, close to most towns - less than 10 minutes to Vineyard Haven, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs - you can't beat it. We didn't use the kitchen too much outside of breakfast and one or two dinners but it was perfectly stocked with all our needs and more. Its a great place for family dinners. Fall is a perfect time for all the island activities-biking, beach, hiking, golfing-and we took full advantage. The owner, Joan, was very accommodating to our needs--we all looking forward to planning a return trip!! Thank you, Joan! show more show less

    We had a lovely stay

Joan's house was comfortable, clean and perfect for our family. It was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay including for cooking meals and for the beach. During COVID, the house was completely cleaned and we felt safe and at home.

Perfect Vineyard Home for Our Stay

We so enjoyed our stay on the Vineyard at this private, tucked-away home. We loved the open kitchen and living room, and used the outside patio for several dinners. Kitchen was beautiful, and the beds comfy -- so what more could we ask for! The owner, Joan, was so helpful, and very nice, and even sent us updates on island events. We did go to the Ag Fair for the very first time -- our granddaughter was in heaven! Hope we can get back next year!

    Great First Visit

This was our families first visit to Martha's Vineyard but it won't be our last. The house was a great size for our family and it is nice and secluded while being centrally located. We biked many places right from the house. The house was stocked with everything we needed to include beach gear and bikes. Joan was very welcoming and provided tons of information leading up to our trip. There were so many things to do that we didn't get to it all. We hope to return very soon.

    Home Away From Home

Several years ago the home we rented for 10 summers was no longer available. Me and my family were heartbroken. Lots of wonderful memories were made in that home. The owner was a personal friend. So you can image how I dreaded looking for a new home. So my dreaded quest to find an equitable and trustworthy summer home began. We have very high standards and don't have the finances to spent a crazy amount of money since we spend four or more weeks in the Vineyard. So in 2018 we spent six weeks in this property and in 2019 we spent four weeks.

Change is a blessing! It is everything the other home was and more. It is our new summer home away from home. My adult children and grandchild travel back and forth during the summer to make fantastic memories in this Dodger's Hole home on Martha's Vineyard. In the house you are surrounded with beautiful art work and accessories from Artisan's around the island. The home allows you to feel you are a real part of the Vineyard. The kitchen is equipped with all the top quality necessities needed to make delicious farm to table family meals. It is an open concept kitchen, dining area and living room. The perfectly placed skylights throughout the house allow beautifully filtered Martha's Vineyard weather into every room. The double glass doors to the outdoor porch lets nature to enter into the house. Whether you want to spend time indoors or outdoors you can view nature all around you. The state forest is on the house's perimeter. I love watching native birds flew in and out of the bird feeder while the chipmunks try to figure out how to grab some of those seeds. The owner plants annuals around the porch for you to enjoy during your stay. I love the outdoor shower and it is one of my favorite daily things to do while staying here. Beautiful flowers are cascading into the shower while you are taking in nature with a peaceful shower after a day at the beach.

The home has all the amenities needed to be extremely comfortable. It is air-conditioned and at times you need it especially on those humid Vineyard days. The house introduced our family to the Sono Music System and Apple TV which we love! The house is in a quiet location yet close to all the down island towns of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs (OB), Vineyard Haven, and West Tisbury. Whether you are looking to experience all the island has to offer like Artisan Fairs, Farmer's Markets, outdoor and indoor concerts, great restaurants with local cuisine, or just sitting on the varied types of beaches, this house is a wonderful home away from home. We love to clam in the local waters and the homeowner provides clam rakes. We have fun making great dinners with our bounty. You can celebrate wonderful memories while gathering with loved ones and enjoy the warm and confronting feeling this house provides. The homeowner, Joan, provides you with all the upcoming events and activities before your stay and during it as well. You couldn't have a better accommodating and trustworthy homeowner.

I came to the Vineyard for the first time in Summer 2005 with my husband and young daughters. We were enchanted! Sunsets at Menemsha where the girls collected shells, wading in Lake Tashmoo and swimming in the beach, feeling awe at the Aquinnah cliffs, wonderful restaurants and shopping; our first visit left us wanting to come back and discover more of this beautiful island. And so we did the next year, and the next, and still do each time finding new beaches and wonders of nature. We rented different houses each year in different towns. Soon summers were not enough. One year we discovered the magic of the Vineyard in the Fall, without the crowds. As soon as we could, we bought our own house and now know the magic of Edgartown at Christmas and New Years and the beauty of empty beaches in the Fall, Winter and Spring. We come up in every season. We no longer have to buy the new stuffed dog of the summer at the Black Dog Shop because the girls drive themselves to the beaches and towns to tan and shop and the house is often filled with young adults. Our oldest comes down from college in Boston to meet us on long weekends. Other times it's romantic dinners for just my husband and myself. For us, the ferry is the magical transition to our special sanctuary. We love our Vineyard home.

What is special about this property?
The first time I saw this house, I knew it was the one for us. I was so sure that I made an offer that day without my husband or girls seeing it and once they did they all agreed. Skylights and windows infuse the house with natural light. It is spacious and open and feels much bigger than the pictures show. It is also remarkably private for its central location. The house is on a cul de sac which removes it from the road. This, and how it abuts the State Forest in the back, gives it an exceptionally private feeling. In the summer, you cannot see any of the other houses around it. And yet, it is ten minutes from the towns of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. We have several bird feeders in the back and sitting on the deck and watching the birds or meditating to their songs is exceptionally peaceful and renewing.

What is special about your town?
Our home is minutes from Felix Neck Sanctuary where we frequently walk on the beautiful trails. State Beach is the closest beach and one of the best for families. We have our choice of the three main towns and all they have to offer. Edgartown, with its stately white old whaling captain's homes draws us to its beautiful Lighthouse, upscale restaurants, and great shopping. South Beach, with the wilder surf, is the favored beach now that my girls are older. We go to Oak Bluffs when we want more of a relaxed, partying scene. I love the art district, the craft shop, and wandering around the marina. And again, the fabulous restaurants. Vineyard Haven, is also a favorite place for shopping and relaxing in a cafe. However, while these towns are the closest, we are regularly visit Up-Island, never tiring of the Cliffs at Aquinnah, sunsets at Menemsha, the Artisan's Fair or the Chilmark Flea Market.
