    This is the one

We come to the island every year, and you never know what you are going to get when you book a place to stay online. I hit the jackpot this time. This house is in the perfect location, nestled right on the pond with an absolutely amazing back deck. I could have (and did) stayed there all day just reading in the shade with the breeze. It's right at the start of the bike path so a right turn takes you to State Beach or into Edgartown, while a left turn puts you a block or so away from Inkwell or a short walk into town. With a/c in the upstairs bedroom, the nights were comfortable but we never missed it downstairs. The outdoor shower, which i am normally not a fan of, was amazing, and the inside of the house had everything that we needed. Amelie was super easy to deal with and so accommodating around all the unknowns of COVID. My searching days are over, and we will definitely be going back to this house. In fact, we didn't want to leave! show more show less

    Vanessa's Hideaway

My family and I find Vanessa's Hideaway a home away from home. We have had the opportunity to stay at this quaint 3 bedroom, 2 bath house last August 2018.

Waking up in the morning, over looking the lagoon is so peaceful and therapeutic. One can see the early morning joggers and bike riders along the roadside heading toward Edgartown or back into Oak Bluffs. Watching beautiful sunsets from the backyard deck. Watering the perennials in the front of the house is an added treat. (optional) lol.

This beautiful hideaway is centrally located to all that the island has to offer. Walk to the beach in minutes or into town for some shopping or dinner.

My family and I have been vacationing on MV for many years, but we have been staying at Vanessa's Hideaway the last few summers. We are so excited thinking and preparing for our return this coming summer 2019.

We LOVE Vanessa's Hideaway. Our home away from home.!!!

    Little piece of heaven

This cottage is the perfect location for a quiet getaway yet is so close to downtown Oak Bluffs... so dining, shopping and visiting with the locals is just blocks away! It is located on a quiet dirt road, nestled away among the native greenery with great views of Farm Pond and Vanessa the sea monster; a local favorite! The bike path is literally at the end of the road so you can jump on your bike and take a beautiful ride along the shoreline. The living space is very open so you can hang with family and friends while cooking lobster and shucking corn together! This hidden gem is a must for anyone who wants to really experience Martha's Vineyard. I have stayed here many times with my family and most recently celebrated a friend’s 50th birthday with just the girls! Wouldn’t trade these memories for the world. Relax and enjoy!!!

    A Great little "Hideaway"!

We 'discovered' Vanessa's Hideaway-while riding bikes one visit in 2016. We were so glad to find it on this site. Right on Vanessa Pond, with a view of the water, and a short walk to Seaview Ave., and the Bike trail to Edgartown. (An easy walk to town as well as to Inkwell Beach.) There is a wonderful outdoor patio (great for quiet breakfasts, or beautiful evening sunsets as well). A large grill makes outdoor cooking a breeze. A highlight is a recently installed Outdoor shower, with a covered roof, in the event of a rain fall. The master bedroom is bright and sunny, and looks out on to the sound, and the kitchen has everything you need, leading into a comfortable dining room area, as well. Plenty of space for indoor games, and a new Cable TV in living room and master bedroom, beside the upstairs bathroom.

Downstairs area has a guest bedroom , a 1/2 bath, as well as a unique screened in front porch area for a nice afternoon nap. Also, on the upstairs landing there is a single small bedroom, for the 'child' or/guest who just might 'need their 'privacy' (with A/C). We so enjoyed it that we have stayed at the cottage the past two summer vacations. The owners Frank and Amelie are extremely cordial and helpful in every way. We recommend most highly, and a family of 4 to 6 would be very comfortable there.

"Up Island Serenity with Down Island Excitement–The Beauty of Vanessa’s Hide-Away! Look no further for the perfect Vineyard retreat. It was love at first sight from the moment we arrived to the enchanted cottage. Located on the end of a quiet road with spectacular views of the serpent on the pond and the ocean beyond! We knew we had it “made in the shade” spending our vacation under the gorgeous Oak trees that nestled the cottage. I thoroughly enjoyed the large secluded side yard with multiple seating areas, welcoming hammock and patio perfect for outdoor barbeques. The cottage layout is well done. The décor inside and outside is a picturesque delight; cozy, comfortable and very New England. We spent fun filled days on the Inkwell which is just a 2 minute walk away and evenings strolling into town for dinner and the excitement of Circuit Avenue and the harbor. My son especially liked biking to state beach, the JAWS Bridge and then on to Edgartown on the scenic path that begins just steps from the cottage. We loaded the bikes onto the No. 13 bus for the ride back to Oak Bluffs. It is truly the best of both worlds. We will definitely be returning year after year to Vanessa’s Hide-Away. Thanks so much Amelie! " show more show less

We have been Martha's Vineyard summer residents for many years. Trina and Mindy are sisters and 3rd generation islanders, while Frank followed Trina to the island during our college years. Frank & Trina's daughter Amelie, a 4th generation islander, manages the properties. We have been trying to make sure that all our guests are comfortable and have a memorable vacation. Our own summer cottages are nearby in Oak Bluffs, so it is likely that you will have a nearby go-to person if you have any questions.

What is special about this property?
    1. The ''Ginger Bread House'' was built by Frank's parents and updated by our daughter Amelie. The property has a long family history, a summer home to several generations of kids, parents & grandparents. The house is compact but has a variety of family friendly features. It's located a very short walking distance to Circuit Avenue, the center of Oak Bluffs, with all it's restaurants, night spots, piers, churches, beaches, grocery store, arcades and playground. We have recently added a side patio and a canopy above the main patio - providing plenty of seating for outdoor dining, gas grill, etc. The living room is comfortable with a sectional sofa and easy chairs, with wifi and a wall-mounted TV.
    2. While the ''Ginger Bread House'' provides an in-town experience, ''Vanessa's Hideaway'' is on a sandy lane directly on a saltwater pond that'shome to a friendly sea serpentnamed Vanessa. It was built by Mindy with a little help from Frank's Dad in the 1960's. It has wonderful water views, but is only a short walk to the center of Oak Bluffs and all it's activities. It's a very short walk to the Inkwell Beach. The house provides a pleasant waterside deck, a beautiful outdoor shower, plenty of outdoor seating, plus a great indoor environment. There's a living room with a couple of couches, TV and wifi, nice dining area and kitchen, all in an open concept arrangement. Two bedrooms are upstairs, and one is down. Plus there's a comfy enclosed front porch with a daybed.

What is special about your town?
Oak Bluffs has been a well known vacation spot since the 1800's - with Victorian gingerbread houses a short walk from the houses. The oldest functional merry-go-roundin the United States is nearby and the Inkwell Beach is just down the street. The in-town beaches are wonderful, but there's plenty of other beaches a short drive away. The fishing pier and charter fishing boats, basketball and tennis courts, donut shop, updated playground, the ferry terminal, band concerts in Ocean Park and so many restaurants are really close by. You can also take a convenient bus to all the other towns on Martha's Vineyard.
