Description

Description

This fabulous Victorian cottage has been lovingly restored and updated. Sitting on a large double lot just steps from Inkwell beach, Solera offers the perfect balance of privacy, comfort, ambiance and vintage charm.

The large gourmet kitchen has been featured in This Old House magazine twice. The adjoining dining area with handcrafted table and chairs seats 10 and there are counter seats for an additional 3 guests. Every kitchen amenity is provided including a 40 bottle wine fridge. The bright living room has comfortable furniture and a beautiful beach stone fireplace.

Escape to the luxurious master suite with a king bed, private balcony and a private en-suite bathroom complete with a clawfoot tub authentic to Solera’s Victorian history. The balcony offers ocean views and is the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day and enjoy the cool breeze and evening sunsets. All four spacious bedrooms are fitted with vintage brass and iron beds, Ralph Lauren bedding, and luxury pillow top mattresses. There is a bedroom on the main floor with adjoining bath.

The three updated full baths all have showers and hand showers and are decorated with period tile and fixtures.

The art and decor of Solera enhances the experience of the Marthas Vineyard lifestyle for our guests to enjoy. There is an extensive whaling collection, original artworks, sculptures and antique pieces throughout the home.

The outdoor spaces of Solera are second to none! In 2022 a full outdoor kitchen was added with an XO grill, side burner, and drinks cooler. The expansive mahogany back deck is perfect for relaxing and entertaining and includes a fully retractable awning to provide shade and comfort during the day. The lovely front porch with antique white wicker furniture offers a comfortable gathering place to enjoy a morning coffee. FANTASTIC!

Solera is fully insulated and has 6 zones of A/C plus ceiling fans in many rooms, allowing guests to control the temperature for their own comfort.

There is a fully restored carriage shed where all of the beach chairs, umbrellas, fishing poles and bikes are stored. The shed locks so your personal bikes and sports equipment can be safely stored. We supply adult bikes for use by our guests.

Solera is within easy walking distance to Inkwell beach, town, shopping, ferry and bike path. If you are a morning person, stroll to the seawall and enjoy an amazing sunrise or even do some fishing.

    Lovely House!

We just spent a wonderful week on Martha's Vineyard, our 1st trip back since 2018. We were blessed to be able to spend it at Solera. Such a lovely house! Fabulous kitchen with everything you will need to prepare any meal. Spacious, but still warm and cozy with a traditional Oak Bluffs cottage feel. 3 lovely full bathrooms, super soft bed linens, washer and dryer, beach towels, beach chairs, bikes - literally everything you need for a wonderful vacation! Very convenient, walk to the beach and to Circuit Ave. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Super nice owners, pleasant to work with, very responsive to questions. Highly recommend! show more show less

Wonderful Vacation in a Beautiful House

We stayed in this lovely house for a vacation in late September. It was more than I expected, this house is truly meant to make you feel at home. The only thing we needed to bring was food and ourselves, they provided everything else. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker and even cooking spices! The home itself was very accommodating. For our group of six (2 couples, 2 singles), everyone had their own room and were quite comfortable. It was the perfect location in Oaks Bluff, a short walk up to the beach or into town. The home also came with very nice bikes, which was a plus for us because we love biking. We biked several days during our stay and loved biking around to see more of the island. Everyone was so nice and friendly in town. The homeowner, Rick, was extremely nice and agreed to us staying an additional night if our ferry was cancelled due to high winds on our last day. Everyone in our party had a wonderful time in Martha's Vineyard and the house just added to the vacation. We would definitely rent this home again. show more show less

    Wonderful stay at Solera

Over the years, we have rented many places on Martha's Vineyard, mostly in Oak Bluffs. Solera is the best! Rick and Chris have done a wonderful job upgrading this classic OB cottage (new bathrooms, fabulous kitchen, great back deck), while preserving the essential character of the 100+ year old cottage.

The house is beautifully decorated, with tasteful touches everywhere.
The beds are incredibly comfortable; with highest quality linens.
A great collection of bicycles and beach gear in the shed.
Lots of games and puzzles for the occasional rainy day.
A fascinating guest book with photos of the house before and during the renovation (who knew there was an old buggy under the porch!)
In short, everything to make your vacation effortless and delightful.

Like other reviewers, we definitely hope to stay here again.

    Idyllic get-away

This is the third time we have stayed at Solera, and for us, it is the perfect island location.

We walk to Circuit Ave, Ocean Park, and Inkwell beach, and take bike rides down Seaview Ave. Even while being close to all of these things, its still so quiet and private.

Also, the house itself is superbly kept, clean, neat, and up to date. Kitchen is spectacular! And the decor is the perfect island vibe. Not to mention drinks on the front porch, and the wonderful little balcony off the main bedroom.

Accessible, friendly, and available hosts make it that much better.

Not a day goes by that we don't think about getting back there!

    Wonderful Vacation

We spent a wonderful five weeks in this house. All our visitors loved it. The owners supplied everything we could have wanted, and the wagon, beach chairs and toys were great for the short walks to Inkwell beach. Nephews loved fishing. House is beautiful and comfortable, and relaxing on the porch is the quintessential Vineyard vacation. We'll be back.

    Excellent Vacation Home

With this vacation being our first family overnight trip to Martha's Vineyard, we could not have been more pleased. This home is beautiful, full of charm and an authentic Vineyard feel. The history surrounding Solera was heart warming and it made us all feel right at home. We are a family of 6 with 4 teenagers. This location is ideal, with a short walk along the ocean to Oaks Bluff, and a simple 10-15 minute drive to Edgartown. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay and would rent again and again. Our thanks to the owners for all they have done to make this rental ideal! show more show less

    Stunning Vineyard Home

I cannot say enough good things about Solera. The house has been remodeled and decorated with great attention to detail, keeping the charming feel of a Vineyard cottage while providing every upgrade you could imagine. The kitchen was large and easy to use, with a grill on the back deck. Our party was 4 adults and 4 children and we had more than enough room. The beds were very comfortable and with high quality linens (something you don't always find on the Vineyard). We spent plenty of time on the front porch or back deck enjoying Vineyard mornings and evenings, with the ocean just down the block. The proximity to the beach and the town center of Oak Bluffs makes the location of this home unbeatable. One of the highlights of the property is the fully stocked shed: bikes, sand toys, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, anything you need. What a luxury not to have to drag it all with us! I would recommend this house to anyone and hope I am able to enjoy it again in future years. show more show less

We stayed at Rick's house in 2017. The house was unbelievable. It had everything we could ever need and was very clean and well decorated. The location was ideal. We could walk or bike to town or the beach. We hope to rent the house again next summer!

    Beautiful home. Perfect location.

Solera offers all of the beauty and convenience that a family could wish for in Oak Bluffs. The home amenities are top notch. It's clear that the owners take pride in making their home very comfortable for their guests. Also, this property is located on a lovely, quiet street that is super close to the beach. Chris and I love to travel and we like to stay in places that are a bit special. What is most appealing is to get an opportunity to have an experience that gives us a taste of the local lifestyle - location, food and overall ambience. Our comfort is paramount and we want no real big negative surprises with any aspect of our accommodations.

We didn't set out to become hosts of a rental property. Solera is our home and as such reflects our personal taste, style and needs. The decor was all hand picked as was the art and antiques. I got into the island experience and began collecting whaling antiques which are all on display at Solera. We have owned it since 2011.

While it may seem strange, we so enjoyed the renovating and decorating of Solera that we decided to take on a second property. In 2013 we bought Blue Whale and began the journey all over again. Blue Whale proved to be a bigger project but was also an outstanding success. When we stay here we always enjoy the large decks and great ocean views. Again, everything at Blue Whale was picked specifically for that location.

We have had a great experience with renting both of our homes. Our guests treat them well and we strive to give everyone that same no surprise experience. It has been fun meeting such great people and we will continue to share our homes with guests that are looking for a getaway with all the comforts of their own home.

What is special about this property?
Solera was originally a campground cottage built in 1876. It has moved twice by wagon from the campground to East Chop and from East Chop to Canonicus. We bought Solera in 2011 from a family that had owned it for 100 years. Our goal when we began the restoration was to keep it looking as if you are walking into a turn of the century cottage. That was no small feat as we added 5 zones of heating & AC, all modern amenities, a gourmet kitchen and completely rearranged the floor plans to suit our own taste. The end product is absolutely beautiful with large bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious dining area and Solera's wonderful front porch. The craftsmanship in the home to keep it as a vintage gem is outstanding.

Blue Whale is also unique. Built in 1920 during the depression, the interior of the house was in need of a total facelift. We applied the same philosophy and completely restored the property to give it that early MV feel. People comment on how they are blown away by the little hidden gems in the house. The master bath is a spa and was designed as such. The outside spaces were specifically created to take advantage of the views of the ocean from the hilltop where Blue Whale sits. The downstairs gives kids a place to get away and just relax. Again a large private property assures our guests of a comfortable stay.

We just love both properties and we know you will too.

What is special about your town?
We were lucky to find two houses of this caliber in Oak Bluffs. Properties like this with such great potential just don't come available all that often.

Solera is steps from Inkwell beach, the bike path and an easy walk to restaurants and shopping. We bring our car less than 50% of the time. The house sits on a large double lot surrounded by trees. It is in the historic Copeland district of OB which in itself is a very desirable feature. From the master bedroom balcony you can sit and enjoy the sunrise over the ocean.

Blue Whale is in East Chop and also has a double lot with private parking. It is close to the East Chop beach and an easy bike ride to either OB or Vineyard Haven. We often go to Net Result to pick up seafood for the BBQ. From the deck you can see both Crystal Lake and the ocean all the way to the Cape.

You are welcome to kick back, relax and just enjoy life while you are our guest. We know you will love the time spent with friends and family sitting on the antique wicker furniture and just chatting while you enjoy your favorite beverages!
