Description

Welcome to the Flying Seahorse, an updated, antique cottage located within the historic Copeland District of Oak Bluffs. The cottage is located just steps from Oak Bluffs Town Beach (aka The Inkwell), and is an easy walk from Oak Bluffs Ferries and downtown (Circuit Ave).

No car needed. We supply the bulky items so you don't need to haul them over from the mainland, such as beach chairs, beach blankets, a cooler, linens, bath towels, basketballs, tennis rackets, and sand toys for the kids.

The cottage features a modern, updated granite kitchen, with dishwasher & garbage disposal, that has every gadget you need to make a great meal. The 2nd floor balcony was recently restored and opened back up to gain a better view of the beach. 2016 updates include lots of new furniture throughout, new outside gas grill with new outdoor dining table & chairs. Window ACs for upstairs bedrooms, downstairs bedroom and living room!!

The classic beach cottage has 4 bedrooms (plus 1 boxcar room with bunk beds) and 2 full bathrooms (each with shower, one bath per floor). There is a washer/dryer on the 1st floor. The cottage sleeps 10.

The Oak Bluffs Town Beach/Inkwell is just a hop, skip and jump from the cottage. This cottage has ocean views and is across from Seaview Ave. You can sit out on 3-season porch or the private front, 2nd floor balcony and enjoy an ocean view with your morning coffee. Waban Park is one street over, great for kite flying and playing ball. Ocean Park is about 4 small blocks away. Also the town's tennis and basketball courts (newly paved) are a short walk from the house.

Catch great bike routes from Sea View Ave. Downtown Oak Bluffs is a short 5 minute walk where you can dine out or visit many retail stores. Don't miss the country's oldest carousel in downtown Oak Bluffs.

From late June until late August, this is a SUNDAY to SUNDAY 7 night minimum rental. 3-5 night minimum stay up from mid-June and after Labor Day.

Although it's nice to unplug, the house has free Wifi with a code for those who want to stay connected, as well as TVs with cable.

There is one, convenient downstairs bedroom that has 1 king-size bed, perfect for those who may have difficulty with the steep staircase to the 2nd floor.
Upstairs bedrooms include:
Green room: 1 queen size bed.
Purple Room: 1 Double bed, 1 twin bed
Bunk Room: 1 set of bunk beds (2 twin beds, boxcar room with purple room)
Yellow Room: 1 Double bed, 1 twin bed

Comfy mattresses are on every bed with fully-encased, non-vinyl, waterproof allergy mattress covers and pillow covers. We also start you out with: rolls of paper towels, toilet paper, coffee filters, garbage bags, liquid hand soap, a new and clean dish sponge, a bottle of Dawn liquid, Cascade dishwasher pods, and laundry detergent.

We like to have contact with our guests to ensure that the house is the right fit for them. It is an antique house, not a party house, and located in a very quiet neighborhood. Since it is in-town, the houses are very close together and people are respectful of noise levels. It's not that you can't have fun though. You can also email us through this site with your inquiry. Please tell us about yourself and your party. For your peace of mind, we accept online payments via PayPal (you can use a credit card or e-check with PayPal).

Free Wi-fi with code. Cable, DVD.
Washer and Dryer stack unit located in downstairs bathroom.

This house has sea views and is across from Seaview Ave. Very close to beach, downtown and OB ferries. No car needed!

Rental agreement policies: 50% rental deposit due at signing of rental agreement (non-refundable) to secure dates in our calendar. Remaining payment due 60-90 days prior to check-in. $300 cleaning fee per stay. $750 refundable security deposit returned within 30 days after your stay if there is no damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Check out our Facebook page for more information on the area and our cottage:

Location! Location! Location!

We had a great time at the house and can't wait to return. Owners were simply awesome to deal with and thought of everything for our family. We don't like the anonymity with some sites that require you to put in your credit card info to inquire or book, before having any human contact. Call us old fashioned. We prefer to have contact with an actual owner. We just called the owners when we saw the listing and had great personal, yet professional, service throughout.

The house was very clean, always a worry with any rental. My kids had a blast. And I was actually able to relax. Our kids are old enough that they could walk into town and we could just sit back and relax on the porch. Spending all day at the beach was a dream and so nice to be able to run back to the house as needed. Effortless. We walked into town every night and always left the car in front of the house. Parking in downtown OB is to be avoided at all costs!

We loved the kitchen and used everything in it. AC was a lifesaver. Never will I ever stay in one of these OB houses without AC! Made that mistake before. Enjoyed having sheets and towels provided as well, that was a first. Cable TV, wifi and board games were much appreciated on our rainy day. Truly a great vacation. Thank you for everything.

Will definitely be back! Lovely kitchen, perfect location!

This was our first time staying here, although we've been to Oak Bluffs and Martha's Vineyard many times before. I was familiar with the location. The owners said they did work to the place in the last year. I don't know what it looked like before but it's amazing now! Apparently, it's now being maintained by the 3rd generation of this family.

We loved all of the rooms and especially the kitchen. Most vacation rentals we've stayed in have lame kitchens and it's a pain to cook in them. I love to cook and this kitchen had everything. It was also great to save the money from eating out all of the time. And of course we had to make a traditional steamed dinner! And there were lobster pots, crackers and the little forks for the claw meat, and everything we needed.

The air conditioning was nice on some hot afternoons, but we were out at the beach most days. The downstairs bedroom was great for my parents who can't do stairs.

Owners were great to work with and answered all of our many questions. Information provided at the house was also a help. And almost forgot, having sheets and towels included was so nice! This is the first time we didn't have to pay to have linens delivered from a company, or bring them over ourselves and make up the beds. It's always a hidden expense or headache that you don't always think about and takes up so much room in the car.

The owners provided a cooler, beach chairs, balls, games. We walked everywhere and hardly drove. We could easily walk to town and Ocean Park. Next time I won't worry so much about bringing a car!

This beloved cottage has been in our family since 1965, but dates back to the 1870s. We have more than 30 years experience renting to our guests who choose to visit not only beautiful Martha's Vineyard, but know that Oak Bluffs has so much to offer. This cottage is now carefully and meticulously maintained and managed by the 3rd generation.

What is special about this property?
The location of this cottage is ideal for its proximity to the Oak Bluffs Town Beach (Inkwell) (50 steps and you're there). It is an easy 5 minute stroll to downtown. Leave the car at the cottage and don't worry about the hassle of parking downtown. But if you don't bring a car at all, everything is so easy and accessible. Walk to the Flying Horses, and all of the great restaurants in downtown OB. There is also an excellent bus system on the Island if you want to venture to other towns and areas. State Beach is a very nice bike ride from the cottage.

What is special about your town?
Copeland Historic District of Oak Bluffs is central to so many attractions. Town beaches, bike paths, town tennis and basketball courts, parks. 5 minute walk and you are at the Oak Bluffs ferry. Also in five minutes you can walk to downtown Oak Bluffs for dining out, window shopping and the world's oldest carousel.
