Description

Oceanfront cottage in a quiet part of the island; walking distance to Millie's Restaurant and Market.

The Scallop is a beautifully furnished 3-bedroom cottage on Smith Point, which is prized for its tranquil nature, easy access to the water and amazing sunsets. The cottage is just over the dunes from the surf at Madaket Beach and a short walk to the calm water of the Madaket Harbor beach. The living room has a beautiful ocean view and opens onto a second-story deck with the same great view and an outdoor dining set on the ocean side. The kitchen was renovated in 2016 with quartz countertops, new appliances, cabinets, lighting and painting. The upstairs has ample light and an airy feel.

Outside, on ground level, overlooking Hither Creek, there is a patio with a teak table and chairs and a large deck. The cottage also features a nice large lawn. The cottage also has an outdoor shower. Please contact us if you would like to see additional photographs.

One bedroom has a king bed and a slider leading to a private deck with ocean views. Another bedroom has a queen bed, while the third bedroom has two twin beds.

The house is a short walk to Millie's restaurant and market at the end of Madaket Road, but removed from the crowd (private path to the beach, with no public parking allowed in the vicinity of the house).

    Great Nantucket House

We stayed here May 29-June 5, 2021, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The beach is fantastic and so close; you can hear the waves at night. The upper floor is bright and cheerful and the kitchen is well-stocked with utensils and glasses, etc.

We really enjoyed being on the Madaket end of the island. Laundry and dishwasher work great. It was foggy and chilly the first few days, but very cozy in the house, and I would imagine that the outdoor decks would be amazing in warmer weather.

We rented bikes and enjoyed pedaling around the nearby neighborhoods and we LOVED Millie's! Highly recommend, but you do need a car, unless you want to catch the bus at Millie's into town. We liked having a vehicle and went all over the island exploring.

Thanks for a great stay! Janet and Walt and family

    Amazing Location

This house was perfect for our vacation with young kids. The beach, steps from the property, was lovely and not crowded, and if you walk a few blocks you can get to the bay which has extremely calm water, great for young kids or paddle boarding. And after we put the kids to bed, we could sit on the porch and enjoy the most amazing sunset. The house itself was clean and well-equipped. The owners were very helpful as well. We highly recommend staying here

The. Best. Views. Ever. And a lovely well-equipped beach home.

This is a truly great beach house. An upside down house, the views are just amazing, and the living-dining-kitchen arrangement is perfect. Sometimes it feels like there is nothing between you and the ocean (there is a small dune with a private path to the beach). The house has a very well-equipped kitchen, even for a serious cook. There is also a large table, perfect for eating and jigsaw puzzles, as well as two outdoor heavy teak tables and many great teak chairs on the deck, along with an umbrella, a drink cart, and other niceties. Nice additional pantry for storage and extra appliances and glassware as well as an extra mini-fridge. The living room is really nicely furnished with 3 comfy sofas and a great audio-video system. And well-chosen art and decor too.

But the very best thing about this place are the views— through every window, upstairs and down. Because of the proximity to the beach (a 2 minute walk) From the great deck are unbelievably gorgeous views of both sunrise and sunset, since we have east, south, and west views. And in fact the north views are great too. The exterior and interior lighting is well done, and there are even USB ports in the kitchen. I have stayed many vacation places where the lighting is terrible and it’s hard to find a place to plug in and recharge, Not so here! The 3 bedrooms are fully furnished, and comfortable, and the two downstairs bathrooms are both updated and work well with quality faucets and showers, etc. Lots of hot water on demand. Nice big laundry room too. It’s an easy 20 minute drive to town, and a lovely bike ride— the Madaket bike paths are really well maintained. A terrific house in a perfect location. The homeowners are clear and communicative, and very quick to respond and helpful.

    Loved our weekend!

My husband and I rented The Scallop for a long weekend in October to celebrate our anniversary. We had an amazing time! There are gorgeous views from every window, and the deck overlooks the ocean. We had beautiful weather and we enjoyed several sunsets on the beach. My sister and her family joined us on Saturday, along with my youngest son. There was plenty of room and we were quite comfortable. The upstairs open living space is gorgeous and is open to the kitchen which is nicely laid out. The refrigerator is big and the stove is great, too. We highly recommend it for anyone. We can't wait to return! show more show less

    Beautiful and cozy

We had an amazing stay at the Scallop! The weather was not amazing but the surroundings were exceptional, from the views of the beach, the wrap around deck and comfortable amenities. We had one evening where the sunsets were absolutely breathtaking! We loved staying here and hope to be back!

Immaculate seaside home surrounded by glorious ocean views, a five minute walk to Madaket Harbor, and nestled at the edge of Hither Creek. Water everywhere! View Nantucket's treasures from balconies and decks surrounding the house. Private sunset views, anyone?

We have owned a Nantucket beach house for more than 25 years, first in Surfside and then in Madaket for the last 15 years. We love Madaket, and particularly Smith Point, for its amazing access to the water and the great water views. Our two teenage boys love the beach, and when they were younger they enjoyed participating in Nantucket's day camps for a great variety of activities. We all love walking to Millie's for dinner or for takeout food any time of day.

What is special about this property?
The house has incredible views and great access to the beach. This area of the island is uncrowded and tranquil because there is little vehicle traffic and we are not on a regular flight path. Our house has a private path to the beach from California Avenue (a private road with no parking allowed) or an easy walk down Maine Avenue (also a private road with no parking allowed). The house has ample decks, including an upper oceanfront deck with space for dining.

What is special about your town?
Nantucket has an amazing variety of activities for visitors. Downtown offers dining, shopping and sightseeing amid a unique collection of historic homes and buildings. Both the Atheneum and the Whaling Museum provide great activities for kids, and the Maria Mitchell Association offers a science museum and playground. For kids and adults, there are charter boats available for fishing, whale watching, seal tours, ice cream tours, etc. More than half the island is set aside for conservation land, and much of that land is available for walks or tours. Nantucket has a great network of bike paths, with flat/rolling terrain offering lots of opportunities to see the island over your handlebars. Golf, tennis and other recreational activities are also available.
