I've been to Nantucket so many times as the rest of you. I've stayed in all manner of accommodation. I was out in Sconset 1/1/2000. If you gave me a choice of any accommodation, I'd choose here and that includes January. Perfect. I'm an ER nurse and here is where I want to untie my knots. But warning, don't take the last week of October. I want the weather the comes with it.

Peter: I can only tell you that after having spent so many of my summers on Nantucket, the week I spent at Madequecham was the first true vacation I've ever had here. It was so peaceful and relaxing that I felt sad to leave at the end of the week. It is refreshing to have spent time on the waterfront that was unfettered with high tech appliances, fancy furniture and other unecessary additions. Please don't do anything to improve what I feel is a perfect and beautiful place-one that reminds me of what Nantucket used to be. show more show less

Hi Peter - I just wanted to thank you for a great week on the beach. What a treat it is to log some true beach time and set your clock in conjunction with the sun's axis. My wife and I really appreciated the time away.

I just wanted to send you a quick email thanking you for opening your family house up to us for vacation last week. The three of us had a fantastic time in that magical spot. I spent my first week on Nantucket as a kid nearly 30 years ago and my five nights at your place were like a trip back in time, even as my jaw dropped at how much of the rest of the island has transformed itself over those years. Of course, the glorious stretch of weather the entire length of our stay was an added and unexpected gift. The new generator worked great and we had absolutely no problems with the place. Looking forward to a return trip sometime in the future. show more show less

Peter, It was the most perfect time to be there, no crowds, the stars were amazing, we saw the seals at the point. I can't say enough about how great it was. Absolutely add us to the list.

Our Madequecham Valley summer house was built by my great grandfather in the late 1800's as an "escape" from the heat of in-town living. He had a big house on the cliff but you can't fish from there so he built this house as a place to picnic, fish and swim, private and quiet.

The house has come down through the generations and is occupied during the summer by members of my family and by people looking to have a different kind of Nantucket vacation.

What is special about this property?
When you are sitting on the 3 sided porch, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, you can't see anyone. You can feel the soft warm ocean air and you can hear the roar of the waves breaking on the beach 75 yards away. You are alone. Wake up to the early light and go to sleep when darkness comes, or stay up reading by lantern. Our house is conducive to a deep breathing relaxed vacation. We purposely haven't added typical vacation resort amenities, preferring to leave the house closer to its late 19th century style and purpose, as a unique getaway.

What is special about your town?
Nantucket is a busy, entertainment filled whaling port for which time truly stood still. Walk the town, visit the 19th Century whaling captains homes and eat at a large assortment of great restaurants.

Beaches abound, both on the surf side and calm water sides of the island. There are no limits to the exploring you can do on bikes, by car or just walking.
