Description

If your idea of a summer vacation on Cape Cod is lots and lots of beach time, this is the place for you. You'll never have to worry about beach parking; you can just walk to the private association beach in 5 minutes max!!

This 70-year-old classic Cape Cod summer cottage is set on a wooded acre just off Cape Cod Bay.
The property has its share of tall native pines and oaks, in addition to the various trees and shrubs the owners have planted over the years. The front is shaded by mature Japanese maple, copper beach, and mimosa trees. In the back, there are flower beds, giving it the overall feel of a garden, though it's by the beach, with plenty of sand nearby and an outdoor shower to rinse off after a day at the beach!

The main entrance to the house is in the back. Upon entering, a long dining room-kitchen opens to the left, with a harvest table that seats 10, a kitchen, and updated appliances. Next, is a small hallway which takes you to a living room, master bedroom (queen), full bathroom, and study. Walk out through the study to a screened-in porch—a great place to sit and relax at the end of the day. And many a baseball game has been watched in the cool of the living room.

Upstairs, takes you to an open play area with TV and half bath. At either end of the space, there's a bedroom with two twin beds in each for a total of three bedrooms (1 queen downstairs, 4 twins upstairs).

There's a two-bay garage that is never used for cars - plenty of parking spots in the woods. Instead, there's a washer-dryer, plenty of beach furniture, and toys. One corner is also the trash and re-cycling collection point. As little boys, we used to change in there after taking an outdoor shower - the back of the house is very private.

The house belongs to the Pilgrim Pines Beach Association of family summer homes. It's a short walk from the cottage to the private association beach on Cape Cod Bay. This is the point at which the Brewster Flats is most open. At low tide, walk a mile out on the wonderful floor of Cape Cod Bay; at high tide, swim in pleasantly sun-warmed seawater by the shore. It's a perfect place for kids to discover the Bay, with all its hermit crabs, little fish, and sand shrimp.

Pilgrim Pines is close to many attractions: The Brewster General Store, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, The Old Mill, and the bike path are all within a few minutes drive. Large supermarkets are about 7 miles away, but Brewster has a number of smaller markets such as Breakwater Fish, Feretti's (good butcher), and others that are only 2-3 miles away. The Brewster Fish House, Spinnaker Restaurant, and Chillingsworth are great restaurants, within a mile away. But don't worry, you're going to spend most of your time at the beach .... like we used to do! And in case you're wondering, it's 1.5 hours from Boston.

About our green amenities: Brewster town water is good; still, we filter it through a Brita filter, for drinking. Some of our lighting is LED, not all. We don't use bleach or powerful chemical cleaners in the sinks or toilets because it kills the bacteria in the septic system. So, everything we use is 'septic-safe', including cleaning supplies and toilet paper. Scott 'tubeless' is the best.

19 Nauset Trail is owned by Paul, Shelby, and Tom Gasek. Paul is a resident of Brewster, Shelby of harwich, and Tom lives in Rochester, NY. Originally from Upstate new York, our parents bought the cottage in 1958. As little boys, we ran out on the Brewster Flats and grew to love our spot. This is our 60th year! Now we share the cottage with renters so we can pay the bills and hang onto it - because we love it.

What is special about this property?
The cottage is comfortable and summery, the property is shaded and cool - but in truth, the main attraction is the beach. It's a VERY short walk - put on your flip flops, grab a chair and umbrella, head down the dirt road and before you know it, you're walking out onto the sand. When the tide is out, 10 square miles of sun-drenched sand flats emerge to be explored; as the tide comes in, the water is heated by the warm sand of the flats - and the swimming temperature is perfect. We're a little biased but we think it's special.

What is special about your town?
The Town of Brewster is more rural than many towns on the Cape, with several thousand acres of open space in conservation. It has a relatively uncrowded feel to it. if you like history we have that; if you like Nature, it's all over the place; if you like going out to dine in the evening, we have some of the best spots on the Cape. Hard to beat Brewster!
