Description

Come stay in our spacious, bright and airy home! Cathedral ceilings and multiple adjustable skylights, glass sliders and curtained floor-to-ceiling windows along the back wall, and many other large windows throughout the home all allow you to enjoy just as much of Cape Cod's beautiful light and ocean breezes as suits your mood at the moment. At the same time, every space in the house is air conditioned so you’ll never be overheated despite all the glorious sunlight pouring in. We provide wi-fi internet access and offer cable as well as free Netflix on 3 HD TV’s, each of which has its own attached DVD player, and have music systems in both the living room and the lower level family room.

The layout of the house allows for both privacy and comfortable gatherings as desired. On the first floor, the open design of the living room, dining area and kitchen create a large and generous space for coming together, supplemented by the expansive first floor deck and the comfortable family room on the lower level. At the same time, our 4 comfortable sleeping areas are laid out in such a way that guests can easily spread out and enjoy a real feeling of privacy in their own spaces when desired. This home is a duplex, sharing an oversized lot and a single wall with the neighboring home, but because of the space and layout of the property, there is a sense of complete privacy both inside and out.

We have an outdoor shower for a quick rinse off after a sandy day at the beach, and a wood-burning fireplace for a peaceful evening after a busy day. Our kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking needs and our huge first floor deck, with access to our back yard and great views of the adjacent marsh grasses and birds, also has a large gas grill and an outdoor dining area, as well as many other comfortable seating options including a hammock.

And in case all that isn’t enough Boat Meadow’s beautiful, quiet bayside beach is just a short walk down the road. There's a nice sandy area for sunbathing, and when the tide is in, the beach offers both a naturally formed shallower inlet perfect for younger children to enjoy wading and swimming in and also deeper waters for older swimmers a bit further out along the beach. When the tide is out, the tidal flats at Boat Meadow Beach go almost a full mile out! Perfect for long walks and maritime explorations. And to top it all off, Boat Meadow Beach provides spectacular sunset views pretty much every single night just minutes from our house!

The main living area has a 20+ foot ceiling and 3 skylights, and plenty of comfortable seating for people to gather in various configurations. It has a small HD TV, a music system and the fireplace. The air conditioning in this area is provided by a ductless system which cools the whole open living/dining room and kitchen area, as well as the upstairs loft area overlooking the living room space. The sliders along the back wall of the living room section of this area give access to the first floor deck and the yard beyond. Windows in the dining area give additional views of the yard and marsh, and another window in the kitchen section looks out at holly bushes and across the front yard of the house. Our kitchen includes all necessary cooking utensils and spices to create your own delicious meals at home, if you’re so inclined.

Each sleeping area provides its own special advantages - the largest bedroom, located at the top of the stairs to the second floor, is a floor-through room offering marsh and sky views from windows on both sides as well as a TV and DVD, and allowing enough room to comfortably hold a small couch in addition to the king-sized bed and other furnishings; the other second floor bedroom holds a queen-sized bed and offers access to a small private balcony/deck overlooking the back yard and adjoining marsh and furnished with a bistro table and two chairs; the first floor bedroom houses two twin beds, looks out across the main deck and into the back yard, and features its own access to the first floor bathroom; and the bedroom/reading room, located on the lower level, has a day bed with a trundle underneath, a configuration that can be used as two twin beds or converted into a king bed using a 'Kingmaker' stored in the closet, and includes a large sitting area and easy access to the back yard through the slider in the adjoining family room. There is ample closet and dresser space in each room.

The spacious family room itself holds a large flat-screen HD TV with a DVD player and a broad selection of board games and children’s toys. There is a wide variety of seating options for guests wishing to relax in this area, plus a small desk/work space and additional sleeping accommodations in the form of a futon couch which opens into another full-sized bed. Sliders along the back wall provide direct access into the back yard from this area.

The main deck is located on the first floor and accessed through sliders from the living room. This deck spans the width of the house and looks out across the large back yard and into the adjoining marsh brush. The birds absolutely love the marsh brush and there are fantastic bird watching opportunities from here! The deck holds a new Weber gas grill and comfortable seating, including a hammock, for up to 10 guests, as well as a dining table with umbrella.

We're in an ideal location - .3 mile from Boat Meadow Beach on the bay side, one of the most beautiful beaches in Eastham; .7 mile from entry onto the Cape Cod Rail Trail (22 miles of paved off-street riding through the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet with many opportunities to get off the trail to visit a beach or a town to browse or shop or find food, water and public restrooms); only a mile from Rock Harbor and the center of Orleans; and just 5 miles from Coast Guard Beach and the beginning of the National Seashore that runs up the ocean side of outer Cape Cod in one direction, and from the beautiful trails and fresh-water ponds of Nickerson State Park in the other direction. Cape Cod is the second most visited golf destination in the United States, and we're located only 6.5 miles from the Cape's premier public golf facility - The Captains Golf Course.

Beyond the attractions of our immediate surroundings, our position at the southern-most edge of Eastham puts us only slightly past the midpoint of the Cape, no more than 25 miles from Provincetown or any other possible destination point on the Outer Cape, and only a little bit more than that from the Bourne or Sagamore Bridges that bring you onto Cape Cod at the other end.

Highly recommend

This is an exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped house in an outstanding location. We spent the month of September there and very much enjoyed the ability to walk our dog to beautiful Boat Meadow Beach and marsh every day. Over the course of the month we shared the house with our three adult children and various other friends and relatives, but never felt cramped or crowded. Bridge Rd. is an excellent alternative to Rt. 6 for either getting to Orleans or to the National Seashore beaches. Dorian was also a very responsive host to any questions we had. In short, we would not hesitate to return to Dorian's home and will recommend it to our friends. show more show less

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Jack! We do try to make everything as comfortable as possible and we couldn't be more happy with its general location ourselves. We're so glad you and your family and friends were able to enjoy an extended visit!

Great Property and Location

My husband and I, along with our two dogs (corgis), just came back from a fabulous week on the Cape at this home. The house had a lot of room so that when our adult children stayed for a few days, everyone had their own privacy. The house has an excellent open floor plan on the main level, while the bedrooms offered privacy and it is meticulous. We absolutely loved the location as we could get to Coast Guard beach within 5-10 mins by car. And every morning and evening we would walk the dogs down to the beach located at the end of the road. As others have mentioned the road is busy but once you go about 1/8 mile, you are on a street that is not busy at all. The sunsets at this beach were spectacular! And the owners are extremely attentive to your needs. We highly recommend this home! Theresa & Vinny show more show less

Thanks so much for taking the time to write us this great review! We're so glad you had a great time at our place! We love the layout and the location ourselves, and the beaches you mentioned are two of our favorites as well. Thanks again for the awesome picture of you and the pups enjoying the sunset. I love the chance to "meet" our guests as they're having fun in and around our home! Enjoy the rest of your summer and please do come back to stay with us again soon! - Dorian

We stayed for two weeks in July this year and could not have found a better place. The home was everything we hoped it would be from very clean and well equipped to close to everything like the markets, beach and marina. We will be back again soon. Also the homeowner was very easy to deal with and made our trip seamless. Thanks again Dorian!!

A great stay

We had a great stay at Dorian's house for the July 4 holiday this year. The listing, pictures, and previous reviews accurately reflect the house so will try not to repeat; we appreciated the open floor plan yet space for privacy. The house is extremely clean and well-stocked. The smaller details were a nice touch so we didn't have to run to the store for forgotten items (e.g. - sandwich baggies, new tupperware, hand soaps, toys/games, etc). The walk to the beach, although only ~10 mins, might be a bit dangerous for groups with children <5, as the first few minutes is on a busy street with no sidewalk and a blind corner that gets a fair share of speeding cars. Would not recommend making this walk at dusk or evening. Overall, would highly recommend this house with the only caveat being the main road. show more show less

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us, Felix. We really appreciate it! I'm so glad that you and the rest of your group had a great stay! That's just what we hope for for all our guests!
As for as the busy section of the road we're on I know that it is a concern for some people and I wish there was a way that I could do something to change it. As it is, what I can say about it is that the majority of the walk (2/10 mile) to the nearby beach is on a quiet dead-end road that only goes to the local homes and Boat Meadow Beach itself, which is fairly small and doesn't get a lot of traffic. The busy section of the walk is only the first 1/10 of a mile after you leave our property. Although that piece of road does get a fair amount of traffic at times, it's also a road that frequently has both walkers and bikers using it so drivers are usually quite good at keeping an eye out for people along the sides. We walk our 3-year old dog down to the beach at least once a day whenever we're there and we've run into nothing but thoughtful and considerate drivers ready to slowly swing wide to give us plenty of room and not startle our dog. For those with young children or a lot of beach equipment to bring down to the beach we also have a Little Tikes wagon to make your walk down there a little easier. The wagon can hold two children or quite a lot of stuff.
Thanks again, Felix, and please come back and stay with us the next time you come play on Cape Cod! - Dorian

Lovely home!

We had such a great time at this house! I went with three couples for my brother-in-law's 40th birthday. We loved being on the Cape in the fall. The fireplace in the house was a nice touch for the cool weather. The house has a large communal area (living room, kitchen, and den) so we were able to play games and hang out comfortably. It's also very close to many of the National Seashore beaches and just a walk to the bay beach.

We hope to stay here again soon!

Thanks for the great review! I'm really glad you all had a wonderful time! Happy birthday to your brother-in-law! We love having the fireplace ourselves. We mostly get up to the house off-season these days and it's a lovely feeling to come in from a brisk cool (or cold) walk and cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a warm drink.

A world away

We had a fabulous time staying at Dorian's beach house and would return again without hesitation! The house itself is spacious, comfortable, welcoming, and invites relaxation and enjoying time away from obligations. We arrived with two young ones, an 18 month old and a 4 year old, and there were many toys throughout the house to hold their interest and keep them entertained. The blocks, trucks, and dollhouse were particularly attractive to them!

Boat Meadow Beach is also a wonderful place to bring little explorers, with snails, hermit crabs, and many other treasures to discover along the way. Although previous reviews mentioned that the road beside the house is busy, we never noticed the traffic as the house is set back far enough to keep the noise at bay. When traveling to Boat Meadow Beach, with kids comfortably in tow in the super cute wagon provided, we were only on that road for a very short time before getting onto another not often traversed road. I highly recommend this place to anyone with or without kids who is looking to get away from it all! show more show less

Thanks for the great review! We totally appreciate your taking the time to write it and to highlight some of the features that might be especially appealing to families with young children! As a parent and a preschool teacher, I really tried to make sure the amenities at the house included some that were particularly targeted toward interesting that age group and/or easing some of the trickier aspects of parenting young children on a beach vacation. We're so glad you had a great visit and we'd love to have you back again whenever you can come!!show moreshow less

A wonderful home base for a great family vacation!

We loved Dorian's house and had a wonderful time exploring Cape Cod! First of all, the house was very spacious and comfortable for our family of 4 plus my parents in law. We had space to spare! And the house was full of light, clean, nicely decorated, and complete with plenty of games and toys to keep our kids happy during our times at home. The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked which made it easy and enjoyable to eat almost every meal at home and take advantage of the amazingly fresh seafood just down the road at the Nauset Lobster Pool. The location of the house was also stellar. We took walks to the bay beach just down the road to search for fiddler crabs and see the breathtaking sunset, and also drove to nearby ocean beaches for wave jumping, as well as Provincetown and a local entry point for whale-watching and boating adventures. Everything was close by and easily accessible. We look forward to returning! Thank you, Dorian, for a delightful stay! show more show less

Wonderful Family Vacation

We just returned from 2 weeks at Dorian's Cape house and had a wonderful vacation. Our group included our family of 5 (kids 2, 6, and 8) and other visitors throughout our stay. The house is really well laid out and felt very spacious. The space in the basement was especially welcome for having the kids play. I think the house was nicer than it appeared in the pictures, and was clean, comfortable and well-appointed for families. The location is great with easy access to both Orleans and the rest of the Outer Cape (where we tend to spend most of our days). We loved being able to walk to Boat Meadow - we didn't spend full days there, but it was nice to do late afternoon/after dinner walks there.

I do agree with the previous reviewers about the busy-ness of Bridge Road - it was the one drawback. We walk/run/bike and it was treacherous at times getting onto a quieter roads.

Dorian was very responsive and easy to work with - no issues whatsoever with communication and getting into the house.

All in all, it was a great stay, and I would recommend this rental.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review! We're so glad that you and your family had a good time staying with us! We also really love the convenience of our position on the Cape - close to Orleans with easy access to the rest of the Outer Cape, as you said - but we agree that the road immediately beyond our driveway can be busy at times. It seems to come in waves. Happily the walk to the nearby beach is only on Bridge Road for a short distance before it gets off onto a quiet dead end street, and we're only a little over ½ a mile from the Rail Trail, so that's where we head to avoid all traffic when we're biking or running. We do hope you'll come back and stay with us again! We'd love to have you!

Perfect vacation home for our family !

What a perfect home for our family! It was even better than described. It was comfortable during a very hot week, and the large open layout gave everyone the space we needed to come together or find our own little corner to read a book or take a nap.

Our Goldendoodle, Casey, had his first Cape vacation this week, and it was wonderful to bring him with us. We discovered Laura and Tony's Kitchen just a short drive away, where Casey was welcome to join us for breakfast on the patio. The waiter brought him his own water bowl!

There is a nice bay beach just a short walk down the road, and it is very close to many other attractions. We loaded up on groceries at the Eastham Superette just a short drive away and found the home a perfect base for day trips to Dennis, Chatham, Provincetown and Wellfleet.

The home is spotless, and Dorian was lovely to work with and very responsive to our questions.

We will definitely be back!

We're so glad you had a great stay! Thank you for this great enthusiastic review! We really appreciate it! And thanks also for telling us about Laura and Tony's Kitchen - one of the things we really love about having people stay with us is all the new discoveries about our own area that they introduce us to! It sounds like a great place for breakfast. We'll definitely check it out!

Wonderful repeat stay

This was our 3rd time returning to this Eastham rental. Dorian is wonderful to deal with, very responsive and helpful, should you need anything or have questions. Everything in the home is thoughtfully planned for the guests' relaxing stay. Kitchen is well stocked with the basics, and we cooked breakfast daily. The home is convenient to food shopping and very close to the bay beaches, as well as to Route 6 for other destinations. On this trip we discovered the home's large and well equipped lower level, and we used that space with our large older dog, as he was no longer able to go up/down the stairs. We can't wait to return! show more show less

I’m a nursery school teacher and recreational artist and my husband is an engineer. We both grew up in the NYC area. Growing up I enjoyed all the City had to offer, but ever since early childhood I always felt like I really came alive when we visited the ocean. My family had friends with a place on outer Cape Cod and I always found the beautiful, rugged relatively unpopulated beaches, dunes and cliffs out here especially magical. I couldn't spend enough time here. When I grew up I used to make extra trips up to the Cape several time a year, both on my own and with friends, just to walk the beaches and breath the air. When our younger son was two years old my husband and I started taking our boys on an annual camping vacation in Nickerson State Park in Brewster. That's where we first discovered the truly awesome beauty of Cape Cod's kettle ponds - Nickerson has some of the most pristine examples that we've found on the entire Cape! The boys grew up loving those weeks of waking up surrounded by woods, trails to hike or bike on, and ponds to swim in, interrupted only by visits to Provincetown for sight-seeing and eating fun, the National Seashore to dare the ocean waves, whale watching, mini-golf, kayaking, outdoor movies and other fun activities, and rainy day excursions to various local museums and galleries. It's only in the last few years, with the boys grown up and our backs grown cranky that we started really looking around for a more long term Cape Cod landing place.

What is special about this property?
But that place had to be very special, offer immediate access to all the magic of both my own childhood Cape Cod experiences and my children's, and yet provide all the creature comforts that our now older, more settled and matured selves demanded. This property really does offer everything we wanted, in terms of location, Cape Cod ''feeling'' inside and out, and total comfort! Thanks to it's many large windows and its electronically adjustable skylights our home is bright and cheerful even on the greyest day (although we do have adjustable shades on all windows and the skylights, in case you occasionally want a break from that sun)! The skylights open and close so if you're like me and love that Cape Cod air you can revel in it even while you're inside. Every room in the house is generously proportioned and the cathedral ceiling in the main living area gives me an extra feeling of openness with room to stretch up and breath. We also have a very large deck and a smaller upstairs balcony, both overlooking the marsh, and a big back yard to run around in. The marsh and sky views from the decks, and the sense of quiet, broken only by the birds, can take my breath away. Of course, since I could never give up the joys of our evening campfires, we have a fireplace too. But this one is indoors, so you can relax on the couch and armchairs in our very comfortable living room and enjoy all the fiery pleasures without any outdoor discomforts.

What is special about your town?
Besides all the wonderful qualities of the property itself, it's also ideally located right in the elbow of Cape Cod, approximately 25 miles in either direction from anything you might possibly want to do on the Cape. Closer to home Boat Meadow's beautiful quiet bay beach, perfect for daytime frolics and evening sunset strolls, is just a short walk down the road, as close as the nearest kettle pond was to our Nickerson campsite. The Rail Trail is less than a mile from the house, so we can still take our long bike rides up and down the Cape. The National Seashore begins just 5 miles away in one direction and the unmatched ponds and trails of Nickerson State Park are 5 miles in the other. And the town of Orleans, with all its cultural, recreational, eating and shopping opportunities is just 1 mile from the house, as is the last large grocery and shopping center on the outer Cape. We have it all and we love it!
