Description

This cozy, antique, 4 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath house was built in 1750 and is on the Historical Register. The property abuts the Shining Sea Bike Path and is about 200 yards from West Falmouth Harbor. A 5 min. walk will get you to the quaint West Falmouth Village, and walk, drive or ride your bikes to two of the best beaches in Falmouth - 1 mile from Old Silver Beach and 1 mile from Chapoquoit Beach - that boast the best sunsets on the Cape.

The home is laid out nicely with two master bedrooms, one on the first floor and one on the second floor with adjoining baths, and two additional bedrooms on the second floor with a half bath. We have a great outdoor shower to finish the day and a gas grill on the back deck. Nearby West Falmouth Village offers ice cream shops, breakfast and lunch, and one-stop shopping at the West Falmouth Market. A 10 minute drive will get you to great shopping in downtown Falmouth or to beautiful Bally Meade golf course.

Off street parking accommodates 5 vehicles.

Wonderful

The place is spotless and very comfortable. Three showers, 2 in, 1 out, and we never ran out of hot water. Two TV's, Wifi, and plenty of room to spread out. Awesome deck and grill.
Well worth the price!

convenient location with one issue

We rented here for several years, one of the few rentals near the wonderful West Falmouth beaches and right on the bike path, so the location is perfect. Enough room for a large family or two families sharing a nice space. The homeowner allowed us to arrive on Friday evening since the property was vacant and we appreciated that.

Two summers ago I felt uncomfortable when we got a phone call from my cousin who rents with us, stating the homeowner sounded "mad" after inspecting the property. Apparently there was a scratch on a ceiling fan. I remembered my hand touching the fan when I took off my shirt overhead. The fan never wavered and I never noticed any scratch. I called him, apologized for any small damage I may have caused. The home owner begrudgingly let the matter drop and sent us our security deposit.

Fast forward to this past summer when we arrived and noticed that the half-bath toilet seat was ajar, apparently cracked at the hinge. In hindsight I should have communicated this issue to the homeowner when we arrived, but we were on vacation and had other things on our minds. I rarely used this half-bath and my daughter confirmed that the seat was broken the first time she used it. When we arrived home we had yet another phone conversation with a "mad" homeowner. He was clearly unhappy with having to spend precious summer time replacing a toilet seat, and he hung up abruptly. We received our security deposit less $50 with no written note of explanation. The rental rate for this property is not insignificant and the cost of a toilet seat could easily have been considered normal wear and tear, whoever did the damage.

We were dependable repeat renters, respected this property and left the home as clean as we found it. Summer vacation rentals should be stress free with gracious hosts. This homeowner is not a gracious host; he is a hyper-vigilant homeowner. I understand that the homeowner has invested a great deal of money and time in this property, but perhaps he should reconsider being a landlord or reconsider the tone of his behavior toward his guests.

By the way, the only other review of this property is by my cousin, who was specifically asked by the landlord to write a positive review, since no one else had. Hmmmm......

Owner Response:

OK, here we go, We have rented to these people, two cousins for the last 3 or 4 years now, and for the most part they have been great. The last 2 years we have given them, at no charge, an extra day (the Friday before their rental began). (Over a $ 300 value each year.)

Both of the last 2 years we, the owners, were staying at our house prior to their arrival, and everything was spotless and functioning. Two years ago I personally installed a brand new ceiling fan the week prior to their arrival and when we came back after their week was done, we noticed the new fan had what appeared to be the black sole of shoe, streaks on the blades used apparently to stop the fan. I called and discussed this with her cousin and cleaned the marks off. They rented the 1st week of July this year with the same scenario - we were there the previous week and left everything in the same condition, so we were cleaning after they left and noticed the broken toilet seat with no mention of it to me just like the year before with the fan damage. I had to run out Sat. AM to find a toilet seat before our next tenant arrived. I bought one and was still "hugging" the toilet, installing the new seat, when the new people arrived. I think that a $50 toilet seat charge was more than fair... A plumber would have charged 3 times that amount.

Her cousin who stayed on the first floor never had any problems but at times seemed to be upset at her cousin for jeopardizing future vacation weeks. Hmmmmm..............
We have had a few things get broken in the past and we chalk it up to "rental damage." The only difference was that other tenants always told us what happened, not deny what happened.
