Description

On a very private lane connecting Pochet and Barley Neck Roads, you will find this charming 2-bedroom/1-bath pet-friendly cottage set back in the woods, accented with original 1930's vintage charm. This relaxing retreat is located in a very desirable area of East Orleans.

It is only 1.5 miles to Nauset Beach, a suitable route for both walking or biking. Only 1/10 mile walk to Meetinghouse Pond, so you can indulge in a glorious stroll to watch the sunset over a cove of sailboats, or launch your kayak or canoe. Got a dog? The cottage is just around the corner from a public park/boat launch at Harvey's Pond. But be back by late afternoon to enjoy the sun streaming into the screen porch from a rocking chair.

Fully renovated in 2017, this cottage offers a full kitchen, two private bedrooms, washer/dryer, cable TV, Internet, an oversized shower, indoor and outdoor dining options, and a private backyard. Linens are provided.

This is a non-smoking property. Those with animal allergies should note: this home welcomes four-legged guests. Off street parking for two cars.

Jim and Donna purchased this 1930s cottage in 2016 as a lifelong dream for these two native New England Baby Boomers. The couple had been vacationing on the Cape for 15 years enjoying kayaking, hiking, and biking in the private spaces the Cape has to offer. An architect-in-training had began the restoration, installing shiplap in all rooms and wide-plank flooring in the master bedroom and entryway. In 2017, Donna and Jim enhanced the kitchen and bathroom, installed new hardwood flooring and painted the cottage inside and out. The exterior landscaping was also redone in 2017. The couple enjoys as many weekends as possible on the Cape with their small dogs and cat. They love Orleans as the entrance to the glory of the national seashore.

What is special about this property?
This cottage is located in an area of fine homes and only .75 to the ocean as the crow flies. It isn't a cookie-cutter street. The cottage is set back from a dirt road, yet so close to everything. The cottage is below the crowds and Orleans offers all you need without heading out to any main roads. A small village within walking distance offers post office, pizza, fine dining, shopping, high end grocer, ice cream parlor, coffee shop, and more. You could spend your whole week walking and/or biking to all you need.Even on the 4th of July, you won't feel crowded or rushed. The nearby neighborhoods are beautiful to enjoy with long walks. Orleans is on the rail-to-trail bike route, close to all the national seashore, and convenient to Provincetown.

What is special about your town?
Nauset Beach is an acclaimed natural treasure (National Geographic’s top ten beach towns https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/american-beach-towns-photos-traveler/ ) with sand/water views as far as the eye can see. The beach hiker can go for miles in either direction. South of Nauset, explore dunes on foot or four wheels. The public beach at Nauset offers restrooms, store, and clam shack (Liams). Nauset has big waves, harbor seals, and occasional shark sighting. The young swimmer can enjoy a truly remarkable tidal flat beach at Skaket Beach in Orleans. Enjoy once-in-a-lifetime views at low tide and walk one mile into the ocean no deeper than your ankles. Orlean’s Pleasant Bay and The River are great for kayaking and paddle sports. Dog restrictions are enforced at Nauset and Skaket during peak season. But Kent’s Point is a great place for dogs, plus National Seashore beaches allow dogs outside of protected areas.

Orleans has main street shopping, but nearby Chatham or Provincetown (20-40 min drive) offer endless little shops. There are many excellent dining opportunities in Orleans, including fish houses at Rock Harbor, so don't plan to travel far for dinner. Two community theater groups offer live shows, plus lots of art galleries.

Orleans has many commercial conveniences, including, Stop & Shop, CVS, TJ Maxx, and Christmas Tree Shop, etc.
