About Bird Banding Demo at Wellfleet Bay...Have you ever dreamed of holding a bird in your hand? Now may be your chance! Wellfleet Bay has established a banding project to study the migration of songbirds. The sanctuary has a long history of monitoring bird populations through banding, most notably the research done by Dr. Oliver Austin, Jr. from 1928–1958. Much has changed since that time, but the data gathered from our new project will be just as valuable. Mist nets will be set up on the property for the spring migration and managed by James Junda, licensed master bander and Master’s student at McGill University. Join us for this very special opportunity to see birds up-close and in-the-hand while learning about banding methods and the information gathered from these research projects.
