About Provincetown Farmers Market...The decade-old market located on Ryder St. next to Provincetown Town Hall will have every farm and produce item found in grocery stores, according to Kathy Sanders, 2016 Provincetown Farmers Market manager.
“The Farmers Market will offer organic and organic practices with a diverse selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables all season,” Sanders said. “We want people to see that anything you can find at a grocery store can be found at the market.”
Items will include year-round grass-fed beef, pork and lamb, free-range chickens and farm fresh eggs, honey, cheese, olive oil, sauces, pesto, jams and jellies, maple syrup, baked goods, plants, and fresh cut flowers, to name some of the variety. A new rule for 2016 is that vendors must mark any goods not grown locally and organically.
Seasonal produce will also be available weekly, beginning with lettuce and greens, sprouts, mushrooms, onions, early apples, potatoes, spinach and peas. June adds tomatoes, beans, asparagus, beets, sweet potatoes, eggplant, peaches, pears, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and watermelon. Fall accommodates your Thanksgiving dinner needs, with squash, pumpkins, free-range turkeys, cranberry sauce and root vegetables available.
This year, in an effort to expand access to consumers, the market will accept assistance coupons to provide fresh, unprepared, grown fruits and vegetables to as many people as possible. Provincetown Farmers Market is a MDAR/USDA Farmers Market and is qualified to accept WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons. The market is in the application process and fully anticipates being able to accept SNAP/EBT cards.
