We just came back from a great vacation, thanks to Gwenn. This house has a perfect location, it is wonderful for children, and Gwenn is a fantastic "hostess." She welcomed us with a cheesecake and two bottles of wine -- that was a first for us. She also stocked the house with everything you need for the beach, bike rides, games (indoors and out), and she allows dogs! It was just an overall wonderful experience. Thank you.

A great weekend was had by all. Soft blanket throws, a fire, and a quiet well needed weekend for us, my brother in law and sister in law. Laid back, unhurried and cozy. Gwenn was a great hostess, freshly baked breads and cookies were left for us to indulge. A wonderful spot to unwind after all the holiday bustle. 10 plus stars, a must visit beautiful home, with all the comforts of home.

WOW! WOW! I don't know where to begin. The house was decorated like a winter wonderland. Five Christmas Trees decorated to match the room décor. Lenox Christmas Villages under the trees. Lighted garland from the balconies, wreaths on all the doors. Gwenn has done an outstanding job with the decorations, sophisticated yet capturing the wonder and magic of Christmas. The aroma of freshly baked Christmas cookies, a crackling fire in the fireplace and eggnog in the refrigerator when we arrived sent us over the top. The new kitchen is a chefs delight. Tastefully done with all the bells and whistles. Gwenn was there to take care of all our requests with an open generous heart. A MUST stay for Christmas in Edgartown. 5 plus stars! show more show less

This review took me a while to write for two reasons. The first was that I was so relaxed after my vacation here at Gracious Living By The Sea, that it took some time for me to reacclimate to life in the real world. The second, is that it is the best kept secret on MV and I wanted to keep it mine for a while. But, the reason I went with this place in the first place was because of the outstanding reviews, and Gwenn is too amazing not to add to the well-deserved praise. As someone who loves to cook, there is simply nothing you will not find in her kitchen. That is very different than other places we've rented from on the island. The proximity to the Farm Institute was a dream for my son and nanny! Riding bikes to the beach and into town was so cathartic and enjoyable I think about it when the world is moving too fast. What else can I say? Gwenn and Gary truly made us feel welcome and that their home was ours. Available whenever we needed, no request was too small for their immediate attention. I recommend Gracious Living by the Sea without reservation and only hope you don't book your trip the weeks we want to go back. Thanks for an amazing and unforgettable stay, Gwenn!!! show more show less

Hands down, this is the best stay that my family and I have had! We came to MV for an intimate, milestone, birthday celebration, and were immediately moved by Gwenn (the owner), who is very friendly and thoughtful. She warmly welcome us into her lovely home with a surprise, phenomenal cheesecake for us to celebrate the milestone birthday. (It was delicious, and we are still talking about it!). Gwenn's kindness and graciousness extended to her house, as we all, immediately felt as though we were in a home... This brings us to the house, it is impeccably beautiful, modern and yet cozy, fully set up to the latest techie gadget, and completely equipped (in the kitchen, fully stocked pantry, outdoor shack, bathrooms and bedrooms) with every imaginable supply. There is absolutely nothing that we needed to bring or get, it was all there - Gwenn thought of everything! Her uber organization and vast supplies made our stay so easy; so just bring yourselves and clothes (you can buy fish/meats/veggies at any nearby market, or eat out locally). The house is big, bright, spacious and comfortable; we spent every evening grilling outdoors and then sitting indoors by the fireplace. We drove all around MV, and can say that the house is also perfectly located, it sits in the middle between the beach and Edgartown (~1 miles in each direction), so we often biked and we walked to both, and got the best of both worlds! The house is also near a farm; so while being in an suburban area, it was also surrounded by open meadows, which made it quiet and truly zen (exactly what we were craving for in this getaway trip). Between Gwenn's warmth and her wonderful home, I had the perfect, zen-filled, birthday trip. Needless to say, it was tough to leave Gwenn's home, which true to its name, was gracious in every way... But we hope to return, and we definitely recommend this home to others seeking a harmonious MV vacation! show more show less

This is an absolutely perfect vacation home in a great location, 1 mile away from South Beach, with the warmest owners I have ever meet in my life. Gwenn is such a lovely person and it is clear that she is 'paying it forward.' The warm hug upon arrival, freshly baked brownies, and the best bottles of wines from Italy was the best kick-off to the Memorial Day weekend!! The house has every gourmet appliance you could desire for cooking and baking, and the amenities are plentiful...actually more than I can recall. Every spice, oil, and baking ingredients you can image. To the men, Gwenn has body wash, razors, shaving cream, etc...so don't worry if you forget anything. The home is so beautiful and comfortable. Sitting in front of the fire place with a glass of wine (wife) and glass of brandy (me) was very romantic and relaxing. The loft was an added plus, which the kids found much pleasure in. Gwenn has all the bases covered with all types of beach gear (umbrellas, towels, sunscreen, beach mats, chairs, etc...) and if you want to explore the area without driving, no worries, there are eight bicycles available, even one with a child seat attached. I feel like I have a new family vacation location on a beautiful island, and got to know a wonderful human-being in Gwenn. This is the right location, right home, right layout, right amenities, owned by the right people!! Simply Perfect show more show less

Wow-Gwenn has this place decked to the nines! Upon arrival, I was immediately drawn to the upscale beachy décor. The furniture was perfect for lazy afternoon naps and reading. The bedrooms were all well stocked with towels, hangers, and the most comfortable bedding I could have imagined! This house is perfect for travelers of all ages- my son had an excellent time as there is more than enough room to run, throw a ball, ride bikes and play games.! The beach is super close and we loved riding our bikes there-it was so convenient and provided an excellent opportunity to remain active while being on vacation. We were able to cook all of our meals in the awesome kitchen that has everything you could imagine for cooking. We will certainly come back to Gwenn's home and I HIGHLY recommend this home to anyone that is looking for an amazing Martha's Vineyard experience! show more show less

The minute you walk into this property you know that it has been taken care of very well. The kitchen has all the amenities that you could ever need. The open floor plan is great for getting the whole family together in one place. Plenty of bedrooms that are decorated very nicely, then amount of games will keep any family busy if you have rainy days or weeks. The amount of beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers beach mats at your disposal is wonderful. You don't even have to bring sand toys Gwenn has enough to keep the smallest child happy digging in the sand. If you are not a beach person you have your choice of about 10 bikes. This was the best house that I have rented, I would recommend this house to anyone wanting a peaceful and beautiful house to kick back in. Gwenn also has a very lovely bottle of wine and pound cake upon arrival. Thank you so much Gwenn for a wonderful week we will be back next year. show more show less

Our stay at Gracious Living was a vacation dream. We were met with a warm greeting and scrumptious refreshments fit for weary travelers...what a treat. The home is beautifully furnished, the bathrooms are tastefully done and supplied with necessary items. The bedrooms are beautifully fashioned with Ralph Loren linens and spreads. You will enjoy the opportunity to gather and watch a movie or assemble on the inviting back porch. The fire pit is a plus, we roasted marshmallows and then made smores...lot's of fun! Hammocks are available for recuperating after an active day at the beach. There is plenty of room for a good game of Bocce Ball, Volleyball, or any favorite outdoor game. The kitchen is wonderfully stocked for simple to gourmet meal preparations. Items for a day at the beach were available which provided for a wonderful time! I highly recommend Gracious Living and will plan another visit. The location is the best, a wonderful vacation retreat! Thank you Gwenn for all you did! show more show less

What an outstanding experience. We could not possibly have dreamed of a more sensational place to spend a week on Martha's Vineyard. It started the minute we stepped foot into an immaculate home owned by Gwenn and her husband. Beautiful open design with all of amenities to make the stay spectacular. Do you want to take a short bike ride to the beach or to town...no problem with the bikes that are provided. Do you want to enjoy the cool evenings sitting outside...no problem with the back patio and fire pit. Did you want to prepare a nice meal after a great day at the beach...no problem with a kitchen that is stocked to the nines with anything you could possibly use to prepare that special meal. Do you need a break from all that sun and fun at the beach...no problem staying entertained with a great entertainment system. Highly Recommended!!! show more show less

Gwenn is a Registered Nurse at Hospice of MV, Gary is a Civil Engineer in Connecticut. We both lead very full professional lives, and welcome the quiet time we have on Martha's Vineyard. We enjoy people and want to share our home and the treasures of Martha's Vineyard with all our guests. We have a little four legged girl named Lexi. She is the sweetest Brittany that loves to run like the wind. She enjoys hiking/running thru the land bank preserves as much as Gary does. Gwenn's career path has been an operating Room Nurse for 40 years which explains her organized and immaculate house. Gary's construction crew keeps the house free from any needed repairs. We make an excellent team to welcome our guests and ensure their vacation is memorable.

We built this house in 1986.

What is special about this property?
This will be a vacation that will bring you back to the simple ways of life without forgoing the modern luxuries this great home has to offer.
Gracious living yet family oriented. Spend a day under the Vineyard sun, on the beach, building sandcastles and jumping in the waves. Regroup as a family enjoying an evening BBQ, roasting marshmallows over an open fire. Play a board game with the children before they turn in for the night.
Energetic yet sophisticated. Grab a bicycle to explore the miles of bike paths to all areas of our lovely island. Stop for a swim along the way. Play one of the many lawn games available with the family. Retreat into our beautiful home. Settle in with one of the island newspapers or curl up with a great book. Let the island breezes cool you. Prepare a meal in the fully equipped gourmet kitchen. Watch the stars twinkle at night, stretched out on the front lawn.
Comfortable yet refined. Take an afternoon nap on one of the comfortable beds or outside hammocks, dream the afternoon away. Indulge in some homemade ice cream, reminiscing over great moments in life. Enjoy an evening out indulging at one of our many fine gourmet restaurants serving island delicacies, followed by a romantic evening walk in quaint downtown Edgartown.

What is special about your town?
The home is perfectly located offering privacy and convenience to the beaches, and the village of Edgartown. There are miles of bike trails and other activities including Kayaking, Clamming, Carousel rides, Lighthouses, Gingerbread Cottages and bird watching. Many spas are available for great massages, facials, pedicures and
manicures. Restaurants are plentiful, serving great food for all three meals. Enjoy a round of Golf on one of the many golf courses. Take a walk, bicycle or wagon ride to The Farm Institute to see the Farm Animals. Stroll thru Edgartown to see the Old Whaling Captain's homes, as well as the numerous art galleries showing local artists' work. Have the children attend one of the many day camps on the island, theatre, farm, bird watching, dance, and the list goes on. Night life is always abundant in all three down-Island towns during the summer. Embark on a boat ride or go fishing for the day, we have many fantastic Sea Captains available to take you out on the Sea. Take a ride Up Island for a fun adventure ending with watching the sunset from The Aquinnah Cliffs. Engage on a Bi-Plane ride over the island from the Katama air field. Hike the many Land Bank Preserves. Hunt for Beach Glass on one of the many island beaches. Have a Seafood lunch outside one of our many outdoor seafood restaurants. After all the endless activities that can be done on the island, the best one just might be a nap in one of the back yard hammocks! Have fun and enjoy!
