My brother, 12 year old Coonhound Olive and I shared a family retreat at Aunt Gay's to kick off our summer.
The trip came after a very rough year, and Pablo and Shirley were the most accommodating and generous hosts. As fellow teachers, they empathized with my exhaustion and stress level and provided me with the utmost care. Their home is simply stated (just as a beach home should be) with updated amenities to make life easier. They also added some lovely personal touches which made it feel homey and not sterile. The cottage is super bright, airy and in a perfect location with a short 5 min walk to the bay through a beautiful little path only steps from the home. Having both a front deck to sun and have coffee on, as well as a back deck to enjoy afternoon sun and evening time under the stars or enjoy BBQ ing was such a plus!
The outdoor shower was AMAZING and brand new with a separate changing area and open to the sky so we could see the moon and stargaze. ( We LOVED the whale tail hooks!)
Our dog Olive loved the large fenced in yard, but spent most of her time swimming in the bay. It was so easy with the extra space in the yard to rinse her off and dry her out on the sunny deck where she was fenced in and safe before returning indoors. For US having the clothesline to dry towels and beach sheets was the BEST!
The Bedrooms were bright and clean and the slider to the deck from the queen room was a HUGE plus! I felt like I was sleeping outside with the salt air and birds the whole time. We barely needed the AC except for a couple of muggy days and those too were updated, new wall units in each room. My brother and Mike slept in the double room---and actually CHOSE the bunk beds over the full bed so they could relive their childhoods lol.
ALL beds were comfy!
Indoor Bathroom was new, clean and had some really nice touches, like a specialty mirror with tons of lighting settings for make-up, shaving or just having a warm glow for a nightlight.
Also, they were thoughtful to include a step stool and potty cover for little ones as well as safety bars and an awesome shower mat for those of us who need extra support in the shower. Window in the shower was a plus too!
The kitchen was more than stocked with everything we needed and plenty of grilling tools. Dishwasher Stove and Washer Dryer were BRAND NEW, clean (not musty) and we loved the separate front hall coffee bar and laundry/folding area (so convenient to have the laundry near the kitchen...and not have to walk downstairs!)
Some nice touches were a variety of Pretty Tea Pots for our nighttime Tea Time. The house was stocked with plenty of games and beach friendly books, as well as children's books (which we didn't even get to because we were so busy outside all day haha) A Large updated smart TV was a plus for cozy movie nights and there was plenty of comfy seating in the living room for when our friend Mike and his pup came to visit us.
The house is very dog friendly, with extra bowls leashes and poop bags. Everything was very nicely organized in the front hall area with plenty of room for storage tucked away in cute, large bins for easy access and less clutter. We honesty did not have to bring all of the things we did!
We spent our days at Coast Guard, Nauset Light and Race Point Beach, as well as enjoying the varying tides on the secluded bay beach just steps away. P-Town for cloudy days, and we highly recommend for a fancier dinner CASA del Cabo which is a 6 min drive up rt 6. Wellfleet for Oysters, Arnolds and P-town for Lobster Rolls, walking the Dunes in Truro, Kettle Ponds (if u can find em!) and the BEST part....daily sightings for the SEALS. Sunrise for them on the Ocean side and again around 3 they are plentiful. LOTS of them up at Race Point!
We did a Fire and BBQ on the Beach 1 night which was a lot of fun.
OVERALL an AMAZING stay!!! WE WILL BE BACK!
