We had a great stay at Martha and Brian's Tobey Island home. The area is very quiet and secluded. We live in the country in central NY. We appreciated that there was no noise, no lights, and a lot of nature to observe. The home was fine for our family of 4. Plenty of room to spread out, relax on the spacious deck or in the suspended chairs under the deck. A hammock suspended between 2 trees is very comfortable. Reading material and games to suit many different tastes are available.
The house has everything you need. Enough pots/pans, dishes, glasses to feed a large group. An assortment of spices and other incidentals that we didn't think to bring were provided. Plenty of towels, including beach towels, are there to use. Everything was clean and fresh. Multiple AC split units kept us cool at night. The bathrooms, original to the house, could use updating but everything worked. Brian mentioned renovations are planned for the future.
The ocean was a short walk away. Low tide was a great time to walk around Tobey Island and see what washed up. The last week of September and the water was warm enough to spend hours swimming or snorkeling. A lot of oysters, quahogs, crabs and small shrimp delighted our granddaughter. The water is calm and sheltered for the most part. Numerous kayaks are provided, along with life vests.
There was plenty to do nearby. Restaurants, Woods Hole, gift shops were all within a short drive. There is a train station if you don't want the hassle of driving into Boston for a game or the aquarium.
Again, we thoroughly enjoyed our week on Tobey Island. Brian and Martha are exceptional hosts and very responsive to your needs. Privacy was greatly appreciated. Location, location, location! The location was premium.show moreshow less
Owner Response 9/18/2024 Michael and his family were an absolute pleasure to host! Personable, inquisitive, interesting and conscientious they were ideal guests and contributed greatly to our best summer yet. They actively pursued a variety of activities in the water and along the island's shoreline. In fact, Michael was our first guest to snorkel around the island to explore and find a variety of aquatic plants and animals. They actively sampled the area restaurants and took advantage of great prices for fresh lobster at a local store. In fact, Michael mentioned afterwards that they loved the lobster so much that they brought lobster home after their vacation ended. We were very fortunate to meet and get to know this family and would be honored if they were able to return in the future.
