Be aware of mold & mildew..

We just stayed at this house last weekend. Before renting I asked the owner if the house had any mold issues and I was told "nobody has ever said anything". So, I'm here to establish that this house has a serious mildew, mold, "wet dog" smell issue. We liked the house and its location, but giving the serious, very strong smell everywhere in the house, I couldn't recommend this house to anyone. And my point of view is coming from someone who loves old homes, lived in an 1850 farmhouse for 20+ years, so just being old is not problematic.show moreshow less

I must admit that I was deeply sadden and also surprised by your review.
I remember our initial conversations about your worries with smells and my full quote was "We do indeed live by a pond and it is not brand new construction, but I have never had anyone complain about smells." And I do stand by that.
2 weeks before your stay all the rugs were professionally steam cleaned. We had professional cleaners come in for the renters that stayed the week prior to you and they gave us a glowing review. The house was again professionally cleaned prior to your stay.
If you remember, I personally met you at the house to walk you though the house and you and your family said it was great.
Since I was staying at my parent's house next door to you that week I ran into you 2-3 times in the parking area during your stay and I asked if everything was ok, and you told me everything was great.
I also did a walk-through at the end of your stay as you wanted to make sure you were going to get your deposit back.
Again, you did not mention any issues at this time either.
We did have an exceptionally wet Spring and beginning of summer. I have no idea if that played any part in your particular week but I assure you the house does not have mold or mildew.
I have no idea why you would have given such a poor review, but I since... I have had our care-taker go down into to the crawl-space to make sure there was no water (there was not.) I also had them install a new de-humidfier just in case. I have had multiple people come into the house to tell me if my nose was faulty and no one detected what you seemed to.
I have had 3 parties stay at the house since your visit and they all have been very happy.
I am so sorry you were not happy with our place by the pond and wish you better experiences in the future.
