In the Lee is a secluded, cheerful, air-conditioned, sunny one-bedroom house facing a quiet, working 18th-Century windmill, which grinds corn. It is on Mill Hill in Nantucket’s Old Historic District. In the Lee is a delightful 10-minute walk to Main Street and its shops, restaurants, and theaters. It is within walking distance of Brant Point, Jetties, Children’s, Steps, and Francis Street beaches and Nantucket Harbor. It is only a two-minute walk to the Island-wide shuttle bus stop and bike paths. In the Lee is available to one or two people for the complete summer: June to October. (It is not available weekly.)
Because of its superb location—the Island’s best—no car is necessary, but In the Lee has two off-street parking spaces at the end of the long, winding driveway. In the Lee (a nautical term meaning sheltered from the wind--and the house is) also has a
quaint brick patio for relaxing, showering, and grilling. Guests enjoy private picnics, cooking on the charcoal Weber grill. They cook and eat the world-renowned delicious, sweet Nantucket scallops. Beyond the patio is a grass backyard where children can play. Because a woods is behind In the Lee, guests frequently see butterflies darting to and fro. Over the years, people have so enjoyed In the Lee that they return time after time.
In the Lee's caretaker lives nearby so she can respond quickly to tenants' needs, thereby ensuring our guests' comfort and enjoyment. She gives our guests literature, maps and books about Nantucket to make tenants' stays more fulfilling. For a small fee, she will shop for groceries and supplies to stock the refrigerator before tenants' arrivals.
