Dear Wall Street Journal editors,
The article "Too late for summer?" in last Friday's Weekend Journal totally and detrimentally overstates the tightness of the vacation rental market on Cape Cod and the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Our www.weneedavacation.com has over 650 rentals on the Cape & Islands from homeowners and realtors, and they range from modest cottages to grand waterfront estates. Through our unique searchable availability calendar, we keep close track of bookings and know that there is plenty of availability left. Overall, barely half of the available weeks in the heart of the summer are booked. While our waterfront and waterview properties are more booked than non-water properties, many weeks in those wonderful homes remain available as well. We do concur in one sense that the overall picture is optimistic. Our bookings through January.are 50% ahead of last year in all parts of the Cape and Islands.
But instead of the admonition in your article to "Try June or try New Hampshire," we respectfully disagree and offer instead "keep the faith and enjoy another summer on the Cape & Islands!"
