Description

Description

This 18th century rustic Cape Cod cottage is on almost 2 secluded acres and has a 200-foot lakefront with beach, boathouse with a bar, kayak, canoe, and Hobie Wave catamaran sailboat right on Scargo Lake. With its own swimming and boating beach on freshwater Scargo Lake, the setting alone promises a memorable vacation. You can in the same day swim in the salt waters of Cape Cod Bay, also in the pristine water of Scargo Lake and still find time to sail around the lake and feed the ducks and swans. Just glance at the review below to see why people love to vacation here and often return. Scroll down for an elaborated description of the cottage and the Dennis Village area.

The cottage has a full kitchen, living/dining room, and two air-conditioned bedrooms upstairs. There is an AC unit in the living room also. The cottage sleeps six with a queen bed in one bedroom, and a full bed in the second bedroom. A queen air bed can be used downstairs in the living room. All floors are hardwood. Cable TV and WiFi are provided as well as a washer & dryer and propane heat for off-season vacations. The bathroom has been newly renovated with a vanity and a tiled shower, and there is also an outdoor shower with hot and cold water.

Glacial Scargo Lake is famous on Cape Cod for being both serene and clean. Only sailboats, canoes, etc. are allowed. The lakefront is so quiet that one can often hear the beach goers playing at the public beach on the other side of the lake, half a mile away. Cape Cod Bay beaches (Howes and Corporation) are a 15-20 minute walk from the cottage (or a 2-minute drive), so one can swim in the bay and rinse off in Scargo Lake’s crystal clear water. Famous Mayflower beach is less than 5 minutes drive away. The lakefront has 3 entrances into the water for swimming, one a sandy beach that is great for children as it is shallow for a considerable distance before the water deepens. The lake is also excellent for sailing, canoeing or kayaking and tenants may use the Hobie Wave Catamaran sailboat, kayak, or canoe (life jackets in the boathouse-mandatory). Bass and trout fishing, including fly-fishing and ice fishing, make the lake a year-round fishing paradise. The boathouse has a bar with bar stools and large windows right on the lake. The 200' lakefront is ideal for outdoor dining. At the lakefront there is a fire pit where families can gather, make music, watch the moonlight on Scargo Lake, and cook around the fire.

The cottage is located off 6A in Dennis Village, a village unchanged since the 1950s. Although set back from the road and secluded by vegetation, the cottage is easily within walking distance of the village. The property is a short walk (5-15 minutes) from the Cape Playhouse (world famous off-Broadway theater), Cape Cinema (''art'' films, not commercial fare), Cape Cod Art Museum (well worth a visit, Cape artists), local restaurants (many excellent, some exceptional) and the center of town (a gazebo). A large shopping mall is a ten-minute drive to Patriot Square. The area also has great hiking and biking trails. The review below confirms that people love to vacation at the cottage on Scargo Lake, as will you.

There is a second house, three-bedroom house on the same two-acre property that is also available for a larger group (Listing number 9530). Both houses are available to be rented at the same time.

    A wonderful Cape Cod experience!

We LOVED our stay in the cottage on Scargo Lake. The cottage was just being cleaned as we arrived and provided everything we needed for a Cape Cod getaway with the kids and our dog this summer. This place is a classic New England gem with brightly colored braided rugs on the floor and a doily under every lamp! There are two bedrooms upstairs with Queen size beds, clean linens and an additional fold out futon. There was an AC unit in each bedroom, plus one in the main living room area downstairs. The best part about this place is that the cottage is set on a large grassy yard leading down to a quiet peaceful lake front. Time to exhale!

It felt private and special with just a few other folks sailing, swimming or paddling nearby. Our two young children and our dog enjoyed splashing and playing in the lake every day. A clever little boathouse/outdoor bar provided kayaks and a canoe for us to use during our stay. Bonus! It always felt like there was something fun or relaxing to do outside here.

In the afternoons we'd take a quick and easy drive over to the Corporation or Mayflowers beaches for more water fun and from the cottage we were also just a two minute drive from the quaint downtown for ice cream, dining and shopping. Verity was so kind to check up on us mid-way through our stay. We really appreciated her great communication with us through out the easy booking process and answering our questions in the weeks leading up. Lastly, there was a gas grill next to the cottage in good condition that we used to cook all of our meals and ate on the large patio table outside. While this is not a fancy cottage, it is adorable and will provide a truly authentic and memorable experience for anyone staying on The Cape.

    Thank you Verity!

Enjoy all of East Dennis from this cottage......

Had a thoroughly relaxing vacation at this cottage on Scargo Lake. My 2 small dogs played in the lake in the morning and evenings while I read in the comfy beach chairs. Then I walked or rode my bike to the most beautiful bay beaches on the Cape (Chapin and Howe's St) in the afternoon. The cottage has everything you'll need for comfort of cooking in, washing your clothes, and climate control for you and your pups. The beds were comfortable too! Having sheets and towels provided an added bonus and made things easy. The cottage is small, but was just right for me and my 2 dogs. I could see how a couple or small family would find everything they need there. But, the best part was being so close to the best Dennis bay beaches and having the lake for my dogs to enjoy everyday. show more show less

    Fabulous Retreat

We had a wonderful week in this charming cottage. It was clean, well stocked, convenient, and very comfortable. The owner gave us detailed and really helpful instructions for the beaches, parking, dog, Internet. We swam in the lake every day as well as spent hours at all four North Dennis beaches - each nicer than the last. We look forward to returning. Thank you

    Feels like Home!

I have been going to Dennis, Cape Cod since I was two years old. We started on Whig Street and moved around to many different cottages. One of our favorites were in Brewster, on Paines Creek Road. We spent many summers walking to the Grist Mill and meeting up with cousins on Corporation Beach. In 1966, my parents bought a house on Joy Lane in Dennis. Our family owns several properties there. We sold the family home in 2013. It has been very hard to go back to our family place until this past summer. The little house in Dennis felt like home. All my family came to enjoy Scargo Lake and the little house. I felt peaceful and safe all week long. When I got back to Maine, I was sad, just like when I was little going back to New York after my wonderful weeks on the Cape. If you want to shed your shoes and your electronics (there is WiFi ). Choose "the Real Cape Cod" and stay at here in Dennis, Ma. show more show less

    Great location

We spent 2 weeks in the smaller cottage at this location and would definitely consider coming back. Verity was available to answer any questions or concerns about the property (we had none). The yard is huge which is great for kids and dogs to play and the beach on the property was clean, sandy, and shallow. The cottage itself is rustic and is clean and well stocked. The location is convenient (about a 1/4 mile walk) to the village as well as bay and public lake beaches (about 1/2 mile walk). The kayak, canoe and catamaran available on the property was also a great plus. show more show less

GREAT PLACE TO STAY! A MUST STAY!
    PERFECT location. Close to everything!

This cottage was quaint, cozy, clean and well maintained. It had all the necessities. It was extremely comfortable. The cottage was real cape cod! It looked small from the outside but its very deceiving. It was not small inside. The living space was perfect. The bedrooms had air conditioning and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had 4 adults and 3 teen children in our party and fit comfortably. We truly LOVED the cottage.

The property is huge and it was awesome having the lake with a sailboat, canoe and kayak while walking distance to the beautiful beaches. I was able to satisfy the entire family!

The homeowners were extremely flexible and helpful! You can not go wrong with this rental at all! DO IT!

As the owner, I personally handle all my rentals, and I have rented out this cottage as well as a larger house on the very same lakefront property since 2004. Every summer I have returning tenants. Some families rent both houses at the same time and have been returning for ten years or more.
    Verity

What is special about this property?
My property has a unique wide, flat lawn that stretches down to a 200 foot lakefront on a glacial
lake that has crystal clear waters fed by springs.
The lake is wonderful for swimming, fishing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. There are two 18th century cottages for rent on the same property. The houses were built from recycled clipper ship timbers.

What is special about your town?
My property is a short walk from the historic town of Dennis. There is a wine bar, gourmet restaurants, and cafes in town. A short walk away is a complex with an art museum, cinema, restaurant and the famous Cape Playhouse. Saltwater bay beaches are within walking distance.
A few miles away you can find famous Mayflower Beach.
