About

One of the most popular beaches on the Island, State Beach is particularly attractive to families with young kids due to the fairly easy, free parking, warm quiet waters, and sandy, shallow waters. The beach runs along Beach Road between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and was the setting for most of the beach scenes in the movie Jaws. There is a lifeguard at the Edgartown end of the beach and some mobile food concessions are usually near the Edgartown-Oak Bluffs line bridge. Beautiful Sengekontacket P

We found parking easily, we had plenty of space despite the beach being fairly popular, and the water was clean and clear of seaweed. Only downsides are limited public restrooms (didn't end up being an issue for us, but others may need to know) and limited trash bins. Passing through unavoidable beach grass on the way to the shore was a little nerve-wracking given the increased presence of ticks on the island, so be sure to check once you have made it through the pass.

This beach is clean and very easily reached. There are plenty of waves for any type of water fun you are seeking. It's breath taking.

Calm, clear water. Not over crowded, easy to watch your children play both in and out of the water. Very clean beach!

Park on the road and walk to the beach. Multiple openings so the beach is not crowded. Ocean atmosphere without the crazy South Beach waves.

It’s just a beautiful long stretch of beach perfect for families and there is always plenty of parking. Gentle surf, beautiful horizon. I sit there all day and read and swim.
I’ve been to almost all of the beaches on MV but this is still and will always be my favorite happy place!
