Good for: Anyone, especially young kids

About State Beach: One of the most popular beaches on the Island, State Beach is particularly attractive to families with young kids due to the fairly easy, free parking, warm quiet waters, and sandy, shallow waters. The beach runs along Beach Road between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and was the setting for most of the beach scenes in the movie "Jaws." Some concessions available seasonally.

Nice long beach. Parking not too terribly difficult. There is very little surf, so good for the kids. The water is still so fresh & clean. You can find nice seashells if you search.

We love the J. Sylvia State Beach, this is closer to Oak Bluff and to the ferry and very convenient to get to everyday or if we want to make the most of the last day enjoying the beach and then board the ferry.

Then we also love the Katama South Beach in Edgartown as it has more waves and dunes and is easily accessible by a cab ride.
