Description

Hidden Gem- Parklike setting-Charming private 5 bedroom Cape, north of Route 6A, only steps from Barnstable Village. This lovely Cape Cod home is tucked-in on 8 acres of land (part of a 21 acre estate) off the Historic Old Kings Highway. This unique Cape Cod home affords tremendous privacy with its own shared private beach a short stroll down a private grass covered lane. Step off the back deck which is surrounded by informal gardens and weeping willows and follow the path that gives you access with deeded rights to use of a 100' shared private beach on Barnstable Harbor with beautiful views of Sandy Neck and the lighthouse. Watch the sun set over Barnstable Harbor while sitting on the cedar swing on the beach. There is even a ''little island'' of upland with a lawn and tall trees for shade alongside the beach which is ideal for a pickup soccer game, frisbee, or grilling and picnicing.

The house, which is set back from 6A down a winding grass road, is a breath of fresh air! This is quintessential Cape Cod at its best -a full Cape with wide pine floors throughout with intimate spaces offering waterviews from the second floor. Enjoy dining in the spacious dining room which seats 10 plus off an updated, large working kitchen with new appliances. Relax in one of three living rooms, one with its own ping pong table and an electronic keyboard with sheet music and books for family fun. This is a very special property indeed!
There is room for everyone as the house sleeps 10 plus there's a futon and sofa bed. There is a first floor bedroom with an antique queen Pennsylvania House four poster mahogany rice bed with views of the expansive grounds with an adjacent full bath. There are four more bedrooms upstairs with another full bath: the master bedroom with an antique Henkel Harris four poster queen bed has a waterview, the turquoise bedroom with three twin beds (has a king converter) and waterview, the rear bedroom has a Hitchcock queen bed and a futon and waterview, and the front cozy bedroom with two twin beds (has a king converter) overlooking the willows and the marsh. There is also a sofa bed in the first floor family room if needed.

You won't want to leave the peacefulness of this retreat home with its own private beach, but you can....

Walk to the village for morning coffee at Nirvana (tied for best coffee on the Cape in Cape Cod magazine 2017) and provisions at Barnstable Market and keep strolling to Barnstable Harbor and Millway Beach for deep sea fishing and Whale Watch. Dine at home on the back deck or stroll 5 minutes to the village for breakfast and lunch at the Buttercup Cafe, wonderful dinners at the Dolphin Restaurant or outdoor dining at the Barnstable Tavern or harborside dining at Mattakesse Wharf, or enjoy fish and chips at the Osterville Fish Too fish market, and finish with an ice cream cone at Smitty's. It's a short drive to Hyannis for ''big city life'', Historic Hyannis Waterfront and ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Islands, top name musical acts at the Melody Tent, Cape Cod Baseball games, the Kennedy Museum, take a tour and sample Cape Cod Beer, tour the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory, or just enjoy ''antiquing'' along historic Route 6A.

    Absolutely amazing!

Our stay at this amazing Barnstable property was one of the best we ever had and we had over the years quite a bit! The house, the beautiful property was more than one could wish for! The house was very spacious, clean, had everything needed and we have 2 kids who fell in love at first sight! Private yet so close to markets, shops and restaurants, perfect location! The private beach shared with only 2 other properties ( I believe) was a great plus, we in our one week stay only once saw another family, that said not that we would even mind if we would more. Cindy the owner is amazing, so inviting, caring and friendly! Thank you !!! The house was so inviting with so much charm and room and the property itself beyond gorgeous! We will definitely come back!!! Thank you so much for sharing your gem with us!!! show more show less

    Vacation in a Coastal Park

This is a great family house in an unbeatable location!
Most all places on the Cape (and we've rented many) have easy access to beaches, restaurants and groceries but from this house, those things are within walking distance which is a huge plus. In addition, the house is set on 8 park-like acres which made us feel like renting there was helping to preserve a coastal habitat from development.

Our 5 teens loved the ping pong table and the expansive lawn, perfect for soccer games.
All in our 3 generational family loved morning walks for coffee or smoothies, the table that seated 10 easily for dinner or games, comfy beds, a cook's kitchen and the large deck where we could all relax after the day's outing.

It's pretty amazing to be so close to a downtown but only hear the birds and feel the breezes.
We would highly recommend this lovely Barnstable family home.

    Relaxing Retreat

We loved our stay at Crocker House! It's both completely secluded and handy to downtown Barnstable. The house was immaculate and the grounds gorgeous. A lovely, quiet spot for a break from the real world.

    Wonderful House

We had a wonderful time. The house was extremely clean. The house is very comfortable and spacious even with maximum capacity. We had everything we needed for three generations to stay at this house. The yard was great for the children to run around without worry. The walk to the beach was easy and enjoyable. Cindy was easy to work with. She was just a phone call away if you needed anything. She was very helpful. I would highly recommend this house.

    Amazing Property

Summer 2020 was a strange and confining one -- this house provided the perfect opportunity for us to move our locked-down family to a new, temporary location. It was absolutely ideal -- private but near close friends, secluded and yet in town, cozy with plenty of space for us to spread out. The owners were very responsive and hospitable. We found everything we needed in their very well-stocked kitchen. The property was stunning. Already looking forward to our visit in 2021.

Thank you so much for renting this beautiful home and land. We loved all the wildlife and the beach. This was just what we needed, it was perfect! We appreciate your kindness and generosity, and hope that we will be able to come back in the future.

Thanks so much for such a lovely spot to spend our family (extended) vacation. We loved the quiet, the room(s) to share and also to be alone, the so well stocked kitchen to make our meals. We got to see the fox several times, the many bunnies, a chipmunk this morning, and to listen to birds all day. A lot of books got read, a number of beaches enjoyed, the "Eco Tour", fishing, a Cape Cod League baseball game, a visit to Martha's Vineyard, the Woods Hole Film Festival... plus Charades, "Murder", & 3K-3K & whist card games.
Many memories made, thanks to your little slice of paradise!

    Family vacation

We stayed for a week at this quaint house. It was unfortunate that we had a week with such high humidity. The bedrooms were cool but the other rooms were somewhat uncomfortable. The house was very clean and the grounds were beautiful. Our grandchildren loved low tide searching for critters and loved the swing. We ventured to Sandy Neck Beach one time. A beautiful beach but ice cold water that was not good for swimming. Cindy was always available if needed.

    Owner Response:

    Thank you so much!
We have since added 2 air conditioners to the two living rooms which has greatly improved the cooling of the house, and another air conditioner to one of the bedrooms.

    Great Vacation!

My husband & I, with our extended family (2 daughters, son in law & 4 grandchildren) just spent 2 wonderful weeks at this home and were more than thrilled with the location, grounds, amenities, cleanliness, open, spacious living area and the attentiveness of the owner regarding any small concerns we may have had.

The bedrooms were clean, spacious & well equipped with linens, AC (portable) and fans. The kitchen had every possible utensil... more than enough dishes, glasses & serving pieces... pots, pans, and cookware. The only drawback was no toaster... just a toaster oven which was slow to toast! ( esp with 9 people!). Otherwise, the kitchen was more than well equipped!

We loved the area, short walk to village, shops, restaurants and short drive to bigger beaches. We also enjoyed walks on the private beach collecting shells and cooking s’mores!!

We also enjoyed just relaxing on the swing, glider and spacious deck. The only drawback to the beach & hanging on the deck were the invasive, annoying mosquitoes! Living on the west coast, we’re not used to such an annoyance!
But, aside from that... I cannot think of anything negative about the house, location, or the owner Cindy!

It was truly one of the best vacations we have had on the Cape (and we have been coming for several years now) and Cindy is definitely a very helpful, accommodating owner who has your best interests at heart! I’m looking forward to returning again in the future!

    Dear Barbara,
Thank you very much for your wonderful review! Yes, indeed, the toaster oven was broken- I noticed it after you left, and I replaced it immediately with a brand new one.
Yes, the mosquitoes can be bothersome. After your stay, the County has since come out and sprayed the marsh- as they do every year, but a little later in the season than when you were here.
Again, thank you, and please come back and stay with us!
