Description

Description

Set on a quiet, northside lane off Route 6A that ends at the Great Marsh with a view of Sandy Neck. You have complete privacy and caring owners. Our rural, one-acre setting has a big lawn surrounded by shade trees, a picnic table and Adirondack chairs, and a sunrise-facing covered porch is also close to world-class beaches (salt & fresh), shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation including biking and hiking trails.

We have a very large king-bed bedroom with windows on three sides, and a queen-bed bedroom both off a small hallway that leads to the fully-equipped galley kitchen and a large bathroom with a shower and washer/dryer. The living/family room has windows on three sides and a dining area. People tell us the photos do not do justice to our authentic Cape Cod home, with interesting touches, super clean rooms and space to breathe.

We include all bed linens, bath towels, four beach chairs, beach towels and a beach sticker for Barnstable public beaches. The bath has a walk-in shower with a choice of soaps, shampoo & conditioner, a hair dryer, and a new full-sized washer and full-sized dryer with washing supplies. The kitchen includes a microwave, toaster oven, slow cooker, tea kettle, tea pot and tea, Keurig coffee maker with Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts k-cups, a blender and plenty of pots and pans. We always include a few fun things in the pantry for our guests. Outside is a sweet covered porch ready for morning coffee or afternoon reading.

Strong WIFI and a flat screen TV supports your Roku or Firestick (no cable TV). Our library is curated with local Cape authors, some classics, kids books and lots of games and puzzles.

We give you maps for trails within walking distance or a very short drive of the cottage. A 9-minute drive west takes you to Sandy Neck Beach, a magnificent 7-mile barrier beach that reveals long swaths of tidal flats and offering a bathhouse, restrooms, a great snack bar and The Kindness Rock Project (google it!) Fresh water fun and a dog park is at nearby Hathaway's Pond, in Barnstable village. All Town of Barnstable beaches have surf chairs and all public beaches are handicapped accessible.

A 9-minute drive to the east is Barnstable village where you will find coffee shops, an organic vegetable farm stand, the local village grocery store, great dining, interesting shops for antiques, pottery and clothing. The Hyannis Whale Watcher boat is anchored in nearby Barnstable Harbor and we recommend this soul-enriching experience to see the whales.

In a 15-minute drive to the west are found Cape Cod Canal bikeways, canal-side restaurants and clam bars, and the historic town of Sandwich with several museums including Heritage Museums and Gardens with their Hidden Hollow made just for kids. Downtown Hyannis is 15 minutes to the south where the Maritime, Zion Union and JFK Hyannis Museums are located amongst Main Street shops, artist shanties, and great restaurants (check out the new Bread & Roses coffee/book shop). Steps away from Main Street are sightseeing boats and island ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. We are less than a mile from the Route 6 on-ramp at exit 68 and the National Seashore, points east, and towns such as Provincetown are quickly accessed.

We can help you find your special experience, or just let you relax in total peace and comfort.

    Quiet, Clean, Perfect!

This was the first time we traveled to Cape Cod. We wanted a quiet place to sleep at night. This cottage was perfect located on a dead end road! Wendy & Van are exceptional hosts who have thought of everything! They were very helpful in giving advice on places to eat. We like to eat where the "locals" eat when we go to a new destination. Very quick to respond to our questions via text and email. This cottage is exceptionally clean and we felt very comfortable calling it "home" for the duration of time we were there. This cottage is quiet, quaint, clean and comfortable with all the amenities you can think of! Nicely decorated with a New England personal touch. Other than your clothes, there is nothing else you need to pack! show more show less

Great Stay in a Very Clean Home!

Wendy was so accommodating! Our family was looking for a place for us and our dog at the last minute. Wendy was very timely in her responses and was able to rent her place to us for Memorial Day Weekend. The house was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed for our stay - we just needed to bring our clothes. We enjoyed the stay and would definitely rent from Wendy again!

    Just Perfect!

This cottage was absolutely perfect, and exactly what I was looking for. As a travel nurse, it can be hard to find comfortable housing for a short three-month stint. However, Wendy and Van were more than accommodating in making their cottage feel like home to me.

Every possible kitchen utensil or cooking staple was thought of and stocked in the cabinets. The space is airy and bright, the wood-stove cozy, and it is located on the quietest of dead-end streets. Being in such close proximity to Sandy Neck Beach made daily walks on the beach my most prized ritual while on Cape Cod.

I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable, and cozy retreat.

    So cute!

Wendy saved our vacation! We had our expected rental cancel literally hours before our arrival due to an unavoidable issue. We travel with our fur baby so our options are limited. In a panic in the middle of the night I came across a cute cottage that met our needs. I emailed Wendy who responded to me promptly on the morning. After hearing our issue she was able to arrange for us to rent the week!

Pleasantly surprised at how lovely this cottage is. Open and bright with beautiful wood floors. Large and spacious, the pictures don't do it justice. Very clean, which is the most important thing to me. The yard and small covered patio are perfect for relaxing after a full day of activities. Definitely would recommend staying in this gem. show more show less

    Excellent choice

My husband and I had the chance to escape to the Cape for a weekend, but had to find a place that accepted pets. Wendy's home was the perfect spot for us and our dog. Her home had everything you could possibly need. The kitchen had every gadget you might require. There were food staples available, coffee, sugar, spices. Her beautiful home was so comfortable and inviting, we wish we could have stayed longer. And our dog was so happy to have a yard to play in, rather than being stuck in a cramped hotel room. You will not be disappointed with this rental. We will definitely come back! show more show less

    Lovely cottage

We lucked out with this cottage. Wendy and her husband are great hosts and they are very accommodating. They are quick to respond and helpful. The place is clean and well decorated. We were surprised to find two bottles of wine and beer waiting for us. They thought of everything, even down to a frosted mug in the freezer for the beer and beach toys for the kids. We felt like we were at a second home and we intend to come back !

Great stay at Sandy Nook cottage

My wife and I stayed at the Sandy Nook cottage for a week. We enjoyed its quiet location, away from the busy main road but close to all the conveniences offered by West Barnstable and to both the Marshes and the Cape Cod beaches.

The cottage is very tastefully furnished, bright and cozy, and impeccably clean. The kitchen is small but well-equipped, it has all the essentials and more. We appreciated that the hosts had left for us a garnished pantry, beers in the refrigerator, and a bottle of red wine, which made us feel almost as we were staying at our own place.

We greatly recommend this cottage and are looking forward to our next stay at Sandy Nook!

    Amazing Sandy Nook

My husband and I were blown away by this amazing find on Cape Cod. The house was perfect - anything and everything we could have needed for our stay.

The beds were very comfortable and all the rooms were beautifully appointed. A delightful home in a quiet oasis of New England charm. We even got to spend a day at the beautiful Sandy Neck beach just minutes away!

We are Van and Wendy Northcross and we are long-time Cape Codders and live in the same West Barnstable neighborhood, ready to meet your needs, answer your questions, and give you complete privacy. Wendy recently retired as the Cape Chamber CEO and is now executive director of a local cultural institution. Van is retired from the Cape's very fine healthcare system. Let us know if there is an amenity that you desire but don't see listed.

What is special about this property?
A classic Cape home that grew from a small cottage into a sweet design with a very large bedroom that can double as a home office. The home has a wood burning stove, which is operable in late fall and winter. A very private piece of property, it is perfect for a romantic retreat. We provide the bed linens, bath towels, beach towels and the kitchen pantry has coffee, tea, and some provisions for your use.

What is special about your town?
This property is located on the northside of the coveted Route 6A also known as the Old King's Highway (OKH) historic district in the town of Barnstable. OKH was just named a National Scenic By Way earlier n 2021. The house is steps away from the Great Marsh, with hundreds of types of birds including osprey and bald eagles! Night views of the stars are magnificent, with very low ambient light. A short drive to the Sandy Neck beach on Cape Cod Bay for salt water swimming or tidal pool wading. The calm fresh water at Wequaquet Lake is great for kayakers and canoers, as well as beginner swimmers. The town of Barnstable has every service and amenity you could want from world-class healthcare to great local food and shopping experiences. An ''accessible for all abilities'' playground and the ''trail of tears'' mountain bike trail are located in West Barnstable.
