Description

Imagine the perfect Cape Cod vacation: Your extended family, friends, and pets in a beautiful and spacious farmhouse with a hot tub and sauna, just 1.9 miles from Sandy Neck Beach. There’s room for all in 8 bedrooms with 7.5 baths, and 3 lounges with double sofa beds. The roomy Chef's kitchen has a pub table for 10. The dining room seats 12, and there's a second smaller kitchen in the Carriage House. Two furnished patios with grills and fire pits look out over an acre of lawn, gardens, and two ponds.

This is the Bursley Manor, built in 1670 by West Barnstable dairy farmer John Bursley as his family homestead. Today it's been lovingly restored and updated in true Cape Cod style with tasteful and comfortable decor. Its perfectly central location makes it the ideal holiday home, with easy access to everything the Cape has to offer.

The Manor consists of three components that can be completely closed off from one another for privacy, or you can leave them open for easy family flow. First there's the Farmhouse, with pond views across scenic Route 6A. It sleeps 10 adults in 5 ensuite bedrooms - four of them with king beds and one with a queen. There are 2 Pack And Plays and plenty of extra cots for kids. Downstairs are 2 fireplace lounges, a dining room, and a chef's kitchen. An extra half bath hides the laundry behind a curtain and the south patio has an outdoor shower.

Next is the Captain’s Quarters, a 1700s apartment added as a wing to the southeast corner of the Farmhouse. It sleeps up to 4 adults and 5 kids, and has a full bath. Downstairs is the large master bedroom, Jacques Cousteau, with a queen sleigh bed and ensuite bath with a walk-in shower. Next to it is an airy lounge with a double pullout sofa and a closet. The lounge is situated next to the half bath in the Farmhouse, making it a convenient 8th bedroom if needed. Upstairs is this apartment's laundry room and a kids' room with two double bunk beds and and a twin.

Rear doors in both of the Captain's Quarters downstairs rooms access the east patio, situated between the Captain's Quarters and the separate Sea Glass carriage house, a pretty 1700s cottage on two floors. It sleeps a total of six. On the 1st floor are the kitchen, lounge, sofa bed, dining nook, bath, and a wood stove. The second floor has a full bed, TV lounge, a second sofa bed and a balcony set for evening cocktails for two. Out back are the hot tub for seven, a far-infrared sauna for four, and a cold plunge for individual use. There are also indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.

West Barnstable is quaint and uncrowded with a variety of attractions in every direction. The Old Village Store is less than a mile east of the Manor and is famous for its massive breakfast sandwiches and yummy lunch specials, and you can also pick up groceries, sundries, and beach time supplies. Stop in at West Barnstable Tables across the street to watch the artisans at work and then head down to 7G's package store at the intersection of Route 6A and 149. It's in a small shopping center with a gift shop, a hair salon, an acupuncturist and a mechanic. Just a bit further east you'll find hot yoga, the post office and the Cooperative Bank. A mile west of the house on 6a you can join the beach crowd at Amari Italian Ristorante at the mouth of Sandy Neck Road. There's live music there on weekends and some week nights throughout the warm months. Go early - it fills up.

Stroll along six miles of pristine and uncrowded Sandy Neck Beach or hike the network of trails that meander through the dunes. Take whale watching trips and deep-sea fishing charters out of Barnstable Harbor. Upon your return you can explore Barnstable Village, with good options for dining including The Dolphin (once a favorite hangout of author Kurt Vonnegut), Mattakeese Wharf on the harbor, The Buttercup Cafe and Nirvana Coffee, as well as Barnstable Tuscan Cuisine. Explore the many beaches in the area - ask me for pet friendly options!

Bustling Hyannis is five miles to the east, and the seaside charm of Sandwich is seven miles to the west, with popular mini-golf. Take in the arts and entertainment scene in the LGBTQ+ headquarters of Provincetown, an hour to the north, or explore luxurious and lovely Falmouth, an hour south. Hiking trails are everywhere and Cape Cod boasts some of the most beautiful biking trails nationwide. Whatever you're looking to do on Cape Cod, The Bursley Manor is the perfect place to start!

5 stars. Very nice house, the hot tub is very clean and relaxing. The host was so nice, she gave us a little tour of the house and left us a bottle of wine too ?? would definitely come back again.

5 stars. First off, if you are looking to explore the best parts of Cape Cod at a reasonable distance, this is the location. The cottage was incredibly cozy and had the flare that makes it stand out from other airbnb's in the area. We rented as a couple to spend the weekend out on the cape and the size of the location was both intimate and fun for the both of us. The included hot tub was a necessary accommodation (especially for early spring) and was ready to use right when we pulled up. The sauna was pristine, in it's own cozy building, and another treat for the season.

Second, I'd like to thank the host Margaret for settling us in. She was very thorough with the tour, how to use amenities, and a call asking which wine we'd preferr upon entering the airbnb was the icing on the cake that separates the good hosts from the best hosts. I spent one night here and I have multiple friends and family asking where they can book.
Thanks again Margaret! Looking forward to book again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished it was longer! We rented the captain's quarters but Margaret showed us the main house as well which is stunning. Our bed was unbelievably comfortable and there was plenty of space. The hot tub and sauna was so nicely done. Margaret was very flexible with both check in and check out times. Highly recommend!

5 stars. We can't say enough great things about our experience! The host was so hospitable, and friendly. She made us feel right at home with a bottle of white wine waiting upon our arrival. Not only are the amenities a major plus, the space is beautiful. Will definitely come back again!

5 stars. Margaret was an outstanding host! She was incredibly communicative and responsive throughout our stay at the Bursley Manor. The accommodations were also terrific. The property and rooms looked exactly like they do in the pictures included in the listing, and it was apparent the whole house had been thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. If I could give Margaret and the Bursley Manor more than 5 stars, I would! Thank you, Margaret!

5 stars. Stayed 2 nights and it was excellent! We were in town for a wedding and utilized 7 bedrooms for a family of 11 adults (multiple elderly seniors). We had a ton of space to settle in, and still didn't make use of all the indoor common areas! Property was very clean, had all the home amenities we needed and was overall charming. It was superior to staying at a hotel for the weekend. We did not make use of the jacuzzis, hot tub, sauna due to time constraints, but they looked great! Margaret was responsive, friendly, and gave us a tour of the property upon check-in. She was flexible with check-in, which was greatly appreciated! Went to nearby Sandy Neck beach, Heritage Museum & Gardens, ate dinner at Amari and lunch at Fisherman's View (all recommended!). Optional tip: we brought post-it notes to assign bedrooms/bathrooms and to mark which stairways led to which bedrooms. The place is a fun labyrinth to explore, but it was helpful in the evening to have signage to get back to your room. show more show less

5 stars. The house was fantastic. Margaret was very proactive in helping show us around the help when we arrived, and checked in during the evening to make sure we were all set. Enjoyed our stay here very much.

Hi, I'm Margaret, a lifelong journalist who has lived in 12 countries. I knew when I was in high school that I wanted to have a B&B at the beach. I bought the Manor and Covid came along a year later, Now I'm an Airbnb and it was a good change. I welcome my guests with a quick tour - the Manor is more than 350 years old and has a few things to know about. Then I leave you alone unless you call me. I do come to water the plants and put the trash on the curb, but I'm always ready to help if you need it.

What is special about this property?
The Bursley Manor is a gorgeous and lovingly restored homestead built for John Bursley's dairy farm in 1670. It's on an acre of lush grounds with a spa offering a hot tub, a far-infrared sauna, and a cold plunge, as well as indoor and outdoor relaxation areas. There is a pond across the street that was once the cow pond for the dairy. Hyannis is 15 minutes to the east. Charming Sandwich is 15 minutes west. Pristine Sandy Neck Beach is only 1.9 miles away. The Manor's West Barnstable location is the perfect jumping off point for every adventure the Cape has to offer!

What is special about your town?
People say that West Barnstable reminds them of America in the Noman Rockwell era. There's a general store, a liquor store, a bank, a hairdresser, a mechanic, and not much else. It won't be noisy. There won't be many people around. You can relax and enjoy yourselves with one another.
