More About Bourne

Straddling the Cape Cod Canal, Bourne is the gateway to Cape Cod and is just 60 miles from Boston. The canal is the world's widest sea-level channel and saves 135 miles of open sea travel around the tip of Cape Cod.

Bourne comprises seven villages with distinct town centers: Bourne Village, Buzzards Bay, Pocasset, Cataumet, Monument Beach, Gray Gables, and Sagamore. Sagamore is a quiet, victorian community on the north side of the Cape Cod Canal.

Since Bourne borders Buzzards Bay and Cape Cod Bay, the beaches along the numerous coastal inlets offer calmer waters than the open ocean waters. Fishing, both freshwater and saltwater along Buzzard's Bay, is a popular pasttime. And many visitors enjoy scenic tours of the Canal by bike, on foot, or on a Hy-Line Canal Cruise.

The three-day Scallop Festival, now held in East Falmouth, in September attracts thousands of people. The festival offers entertainment, arts and crafts, and one of New England's favorite seafoods, scallops. The festival is put on by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

Concerts in Buzzards Bay Park entertain audiences every Thursday evening in July and August.

For more information, call the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce at 508-759-6000.
