Description

Description

Relax and let the world's weight get lifted off your shoulders when you cross the Bourne Bridge and know that you are only 10 minutes from our home in Cataumet Village. Easy directions from the Otis Rotary will have you relaxing in no time.

Our guest suite is part of our newly built high efficiency home in Cataumet Village, Bourne, with off street parking.

Private guest entry from the left side of the garage. Comfortable bedroom with queen size bed, large closet, dresser and nightstands. Sitting area has a couch and chair, table and chairs for eating as well as a kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, inductive cooktop, coffee maker and all the cookware, dishes and silverware needed. Food can also be cooked on the gas grill with side burner just outside the entry by the patio and bistro set. Bathroom has a large vanity and walk in shower, and all towels, beach towels, bedding, etc are included in the suite along with some beach chairs.

There are many conservation areas and cranberry bogs a short distance from the house which make great walks. We are about a mile walk to the ocean and there are conservation areas on the water to sit and enjoy. Hen Cove Beach is 1.58 miles away.

We are located near one end of the Shining Sea bike path, with parking or you can ride from the house on some back roads adding 2 miles to the @11 mile path leading to Woods Hole in Falmouth.

The neighborhood is in an area of old and historic buildings, beautifully maintained captains' houses and quiet streets. There are great dining spots like the Courtyard, Chart Room, Lobster Trap, Bucatino's, The Epic Oyster and a fun local spot called the Parrot. The Chart Room has outside waterfront dining for great sunsets and views along Kingman Yacht Club. A favorite of mine for breakfast is the Corner Cafe, a two minute drive located at Shore Road and Barlows Landing Road.

Great spots to enjoy the ocean beauty and watch spectacular sunsets are all around our neighborhood.

Linda and I previously owned the Howarth House Bed and Breakfast in Fitchburg, MA. We built it up from the ground in our old, big and beautiful home located on 3 acres. We opened in 2009 after seeing both our girls grow and leave, and finding ourselves loving the house too much to downsize. That after Linda's career as a Med Tech specializing in the Blood Bank and I as a FireFighter for 35 years Fitchburg, eventually retiring in 2014 as a Deputy Chief.

We sold the B&B in 2020 (still operating as the Howarth House B&B) and built our retirement home in Cataumet, with the plan to have guest space for rental, but without having to be up and cooking breakfast! Loved meeting all the 3500 guests we hosted over the 11 years we operated the B&B. We hope to meet the current slate of visitors already booked for 2024 and develop some of the same friendships we have today with our former guests.

This will be our first year listing on 'WeNeedAVacation and looking forward to the additional exposure they provide and welcoming you to all there is to love about Cape Cod and our piece of ''Cape Heaven''

    Brian and Linda

What is special about this property?
Being a Firefighter in Fitchburg for 35 years and moving to the Cape with its sometimes wild wind and weather I wanted to build a super efficient and disaster resistant retirement home that would serve Linda and I for years to come.

Built the home using ''Build Block'' Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF's) and it came out better than we even expected in the end, even after having to fire the original builder and complete the build ourselves, including pouring some of the concrete walls!

The house walls are something like R45-55 and the roof and deck insulation are R49. Installed super efficient Carrier Infinity heat pump and AC with the guest suite on its own zone for your comfort. In adding the guest suite we took extra care to make it plenty roomy enough without overbuilding the space. We hope you will agree!

What is special about your town?
While we are ''On Cape'' we are conveniently only 10-15 minutes from the Bourne Bridge and rotary. The town is broken into many small villages and ours is Cataumet, abutting the village of Pocasset and next to North Falmouth.

The village and area is full of colonial and historic homes and we are across the street from a beautiful historic one room school house built in 1894. Bourne is home to the classic Bourne Railroad Bridge that lowers to allow trains to travel over the canal and then return to its perch high above the canal. It is a favorite of photographers!

Located on the water of Buzzards Bay, our village in Bourne has plenty of water activities, charter fishing boats nearby, and kayaking rentals along with all that goes on when enjoying a day on the beach. Bikes can be rented and we are a few minutes to the terminus of the Shining Sea Bikeway that travels 11 miles to Woods Hole in Falmouth, providing great seaside cycling along with plenty of great dinging stops.

Within a short mile walk or drive you can find yourself enjoying waterfront dining at the Chart Room, or enjoy lunch or dinner or a cocktail at the CourtYard owned by former Boston Bruin Jay Miller. Could go on and on with the restaurants and things to do, but instead please come by for a visit and discover firsthand!
