    Tranquility

The Davis House in Menemsha is the quintessential "Cottage by the Sea."
Everything about this beautiful little home takes you back to simpler times. It is a welcomed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The location is incredible! With easy walking to the quaint little gallery, restaurants, harbor, shops and of course the Texaco and "Squid Row", you can park your car for the week. Boating, beaching, fishing, swimming, kayaking, hiking and eating are all at your doorstep. Not to mention arguably the most beautiful sunsets on planet earth. The porch/frontroom at the Davis House is a great place to read, relax, write, work or nap. With 280 degree views of the marsh and harbor you'll be entertained all day. We absolutely love this place and can see ourselves being repeat renters for years and years. The owners are gracious hosts and will make sure you are comfortable and happy.
I highly recommend this charming little retreat. It's simple in design but complex in it's offerings.
It's impossible not to enjoy your stay in Menemsha!

    Davis House

Our family rented two of Barbara's lovely houses. They had everything we needed. We even fed the birds in the yard by hand. It was perfect for those who enjoy the quieter side of Martha's Vineyard. Great places to fish and relax at the beach. Barbara provided extra umbrellas for the beach and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the stunning sunsets every night at Menemsha beach which is just a few minute walk.

    Rustic Beauty

Located in Menemsha, just steps away from Larson's Fish Market and a short walk to the harbor, this little fishing cabin is our slice of heaven. We usually spend time here in June, when the water is still cold but the weather is warming. Barbara and John are kind, welcoming and are great communicators. They live in the house behind this property and are always attentive to our every need. The cabin is small and rustic. If you have a problem climbing stairs, you should know the staircase to the bedroom is steep and narrow. But once you're upstairs, you'll find a cozy, very comfortable bed. The best part is you can hear the buoy bell from the harbor all night and it lulls you to sleep! I wholeheartedly recommend the Davis House without any reservations! show more show less

    The Perfect House

Our stay couldn't have been better. Barbara warmly greeted us and made sure we were settled in. The house was very clean and supplied with just the right things one might need in the kitchen. We felt so fortunate to have this location. We took our nightly strolls to see the Menemsha sunset. You're even within a short walking distance for a morning coffee. The house is right in Menemsha Harbor, yet it's situated in a spot that provided privacy as well. We had a lovely time and couldn't be more pleased with our rental. If you're considering vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, I highly recommend this home. show more show less

    A Little piece of heaven!

I spend a couple of weeks at Davis House each summer and have to say it is one of my favorite places on earth! The view is spectacular, and to be lulled to sleep each night by the gentle sea breeze is pure heaven. The house is well appointed with everything you need, tastefully decorated and very cozy. The beach and wonderful restaurants and shops are just around the corner -- literally--all in easy walking distance. The owners, Barbara and John, are delightful and happy to help answer questions or just chat. It's great to be a part of downtown Menemsha, and yet a bit removed as well. show more show less

This property and it's owners are amazing.

The Property: When they say it's 2/10 of a mile from the beach they mean it. I think it took us about 90 seconds to get from our front door to the beach. The beach/harbor area has a collection of amazing food options and sunsets!

The ability to grab a beer from your own fridge, walk to the beach enjoy the view and then simply walk back for another cold one is priceless. No heavy cooler or supplies needed. Leave everything at the house and make multiple trips throughout the day.

As for food, Menemsha Cafe was our favorite as they serve both Breakfast(try the Breakfast Burrito!) and Dinner(Nightly specials)

Our favorite part of the property was the two lawn chairs in front! We spent a lot of time reading, drinking, harbor view and enjoying the small town feel. By the time we left half of the locals were giving us a nod as if we belonged.

The Owners: The two owners are great people and their dog is the sweetest. They will point you in the right direction in the terms of food, beaches or adventuring.

Highly recommended if you are part of a couple as the place is perfect for two. We went on our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for anything better.

The Bad: Salt and Pepper! The only thing we ran into trouble with was Salt and Pepper to believe it or not. We grilled one night and wanted a bit of seasoning. The rental had zero S&P or Spices. The owners were such solid people that we're sure there will be a shaker or two for next seasons tenants though!

My grandparents bought this property in the1930s and began their rental business by renting rooms in their home. My great grandfather, grandfather and father were commercial fisherman who fished from Menemsha Harbor. My great grandfather was a trap fisherman, my grandfather a lobsterman and my father a sword-fisherman and a dragger-man. My grandmother moved here from Scotland and cleaned houses and made beach plum jelly to earn money. She also spearheaded the purchase of two of the fish shacks on the property that were turned into rental houses. We are the third generation to welcome guests to Menemsha and some guests that new my grandparents are now bringing their grandchildren.

My great grandfather, William Tilton, lived in the Tilton House for many years until his death.

What is special about this property?
We are a stone's throw from the harbor and a short walk to the beach. Menemsha is a popular place to see the sunset and there is limited parking for people but, no worries, you don't need your car.
