Description

Description

This huge home is located near 2 beaches and in the quaint New England Cape Cod town of Cotuit. The large main house is on a quiet back road and has a full sized Guest House next door. Huge decks cascade down a beautiful garden to a large, fun, flat, grassy yard. The complex, with the Guest House, sleeps 24 people.

In the main house, there is a living room with fireplace, connected to a new gourmet kitchen, which opens to a huge sun filled family room, with cathedral ceilings. There are 6 bedrooms in the main house, 3 on the first floor with a full modern bath. Upstairs is a huge master bedroom with full bath and small balcony overlooking a landscaped yard. There are two more big bedrooms, with a full bath. There is a washer dryer in the basement, with a full bath and sauna. The house has every amenity with beach toys, beach chairs, small bikes and wagons. There is wi-fi and 7 televisions, and there are air conditioners in 5 bedrooms.

The house is decorated in Cape Cod motif and can have meals with as many as 18 people at one table. There is a gas grill and a charcoal grill, on three different decks. The home is very large and open.

The Guest House next door has a full kitchen, full bath, and family room. Upstairs in a bunk-like fashion are 8 beds and big windows.

There is parking for 8 cars and an outdoor hot shower. Walking down from the upper deck, there is a patio terrace with a koi pond and fire pit. Going farther down to the next level is an enormous 40 x40 deck with a 20 x20 screened-in ''camp house'' topped off with a weather vane.

Below that level is a large flat yard for a grass volleyball court and swings.

The neighborhood is quaint, and everyone walks or bikes to the beaches. There is a Barnstable Beach Parking pass for a vehicle if so wanted. The huge Oregon Beach is deserted, and many people bike or ride there, too. The nearest beach, Loop Beach, has a lifeguard.

There is a country store and a ''down home'' bar within a walkable mile.

The house has hosted weddings, bachelor parties, and grand reunions. It has provided marvelous family memories over the years!

    A Beautiful Place to Stay

My large family rented this house for the second time. I'm sitting in the sunshine on the expansive deck writing this review before I go...and I'll try not to cry. The Grey Whale has a ton of room and an incredible setup in the backyard with such an amazing amount of room for the kids to run and play. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the surroundings are just gorgeous
Our host, Dusty was extremely accommodating. When an issue occured with her brand new hot water heater, she gave us her huge private home across the street so that we could all be comfortable. Anything we needed, she was there for us and I look forward to our next family reunion back here at what we call "The Fun House!" show more show less

    Go elsewhere

We opted for a larger home to accommodate our larger group of 18. There were enough beds, but the whole house need an overhaul, to say the least. There were exposed live wires, dirty outdoor shower, a freezer that only worked intermittently, broken screens and doors, just to name a few of the problems. The owner had her maintenance person come address the problems- sort of-3 days in- and two of our guests needed to give up the whole day while he was there. The property could be very nice, but its lack of upkeep and neglect make this a vacation we wish we could redo. Our family has been renting on the cape for 25 years and while we've experienced different levels of quality, this was an all around disaster. To top it off, the owner had her cleaning person show up 2 hours before the rental time ended on Saturday. show more show less

    Owner Response:

This review is completely false, exaggerated and untrue.
The house is clean, tidy, airy and modern.
    There were no exposed wires.
There was a slit in the screen which we repaired immediately.
We allowed the tenants in 3 hours early, before the outdoor shower could be cleaned, which it then was cleaned
The freezer worked, but the tenant moved the dial down. We moved it back up.
The maintenance people were there immediately when called.
The good cleaning people have been servicing the house for 17 years.
We have never had such false complaints about this house.

    Beautiful home in Cotuit

We loved this house! My extended family spent a week there, and there was plenty of room for all of us. The screened porch was my favorite place to sit and read or converse with family members, and the large table on the deck was perfect for family meals. My only caveat for future guests is that not all of the bedrooms are air conditioned. We were fortunate, because the week we spent there was mostly cool, but if we had been there during hotter weather, some of us would have had restless nights. Some people may not feel the need for AC as much as my family does, though, and for them, this is a perfect vacation house. Cotuit is a great little town. show more show less

My husband and i have six kids. We needed a BIG house for all the children and their cousins as they grew up. We found beautiful, quaint Cotuit, and immediately bought this big house and renovated over the years. We take joy in the family reunions, weddings, and large groups that find the place magical. Even thought the house/s are big, there are many places ''to get away'' and relax. Hammocks, reading nooks, the screened in wicker house, and more.
The house is airy and light, with fresh summer breezes in all the rooms. The yard is full of fun games, and the deck can hold 24 or more people for sit down barbecue.

What is special about this property?
Being near the two nice beaches lets us relax about going to the beach- no cars needed, just flip flops and a towel. In the early evening, one can stroll down to Cross Beach and watch the boats come in, while sitting on a rock with your toes in the sand. Nothing is hurried, and the big decks allow people to meander around the grounds, totally relaxed. The koi pond is delightful, and the evenings are fun with the fire pit. The back yard allows for some serious volley ball or whiffle ball. The ''Camp House'' (wicker screened-in porch is a quiet''getaway. The younger kids, or teenagers, love the Guest House, as they can close the doors and make it their own vacation memory.

What is special about your town?
Cotuit is quiet, and a delightful throw back to old Cape Cod. Cotuit is at the end of a peninsula, so there is no through traffic. There is only one general store, and one down home bar, that's about it. One walks to the country store in the morning to get the fresh muffins and coffee, and then down to Ropes Beach to enjoy the bobbing boats. The Grey Whale is on a dead-end street, so the kids play in the road a lot. All the store and attractions are in Hyannis, Mashpee, and Marstons Mills. One gets the feeling of timelessness - which is what a vacation should be!
