Let me summarize before I begin. We LOVE this house!

The house sits on a beautiful and private lot on a high point in Aquinnah. There is a nice view of the Vineyard Sound, and the Elizabeth Islands.

The 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a den are on the ground floor. All of the bedrooms are of decent size, with the master BR having a private bath.

The upstairs living area has a great-room design, which makes it seem even larger than it is. It is nicely decorated with a pleasant mix of antiques, rustic, and art. The side facing the Vineyard Sound is largely glass, with sliding doors leading out to a large deck. It is immediately clear why the living area is on the second level taking advantage of the wonderful view.

The focus of the living room area is a nice stone fireplace, which in late July was for looks only. The living room seating is mostly white wicker with cushions. The dining room table sat the 7 of us with ease. A couple of more could squeeze in.

We cooked most of our meals and found the kitchen lacking for nothing. I brought my own spices, but it wasn't really necessary. Still if you plan to make something that calls for something slightly out of the ordinary, you should probably bring it. The convenient half bath is located off the kitchen next to a large pantry closet.

At the far end of the kitchen is a rustic screened porch, with an iron table, 4 chairs and a gas grill. We used the grill a lot.

If AC is a must for you, this is not your place. If the afternoon sun is bright, it can get a bit warm with all the glass facing the sunset. Once the sun goes down the temp typically cools off quickly and there are plenty of box fans to bring the cooler air in.

Tom, the owner, was easy to work with and got back to us promptly in response to our questions. We have stayed at several rental houses on the Vineyard and more elsewhere. Most of them have been very nice. This is my first 5 star rating. show more show less
