Description

Description

The house is owner-built post and beam. There are parking spaces on the front and side of the house. The front Dutch door is set off a 6’ wide wrap-around porch with a roof.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms: the master with a full bathroom, and two other bedrooms with queen beds that share a full bath located in the upstairs hall. There are overhead fans in each bedroom.

The bright country kitchen is state-of-the-art. Dining and living areas combine in a spacious open floor plan with windows all around.

The dining table is custom-built, simple and elegant with seating for 8-10. The living room features a roomy sofa and loveseat in front of a stone fireplace hand-built by the owner's nephew. A screened porch spans the back of the house providing tranquil outdoor living in a protected space. Adjacent to the screened porch is a sun deck.

There is a half bath next to the living room and a step-down level den for reading, television and extra sleeping space.

Woods filled with beetlebung trees, summersweet and ferns surround the house on three sides, which afford privacy for the outdoor shower and grill. The setting is tranquil, filled with the sound of birds and the rustling of the leaves on the trees. The prevailing southwest wind carries the sound of the ocean and the lights of the Aquinnah lighthouse can be seen guarding over the house at night.

A pass to Philbin Beach is available to leaseholders at the Town Hall in Aquinnah.

Paul and I first met on the Vineyard as kids in 1961. Each of our families were long time summer renters who eventually built homes up island. Chance brought Paul to the current location, where he, his sons and nephews built the house at 2 Harpoon Hollow. We love the island as much as ever.

What is special about this property?
We are surrounded by woods, nestled in the quiet of Aquinnah. The interior is spacious and the porches and deck provide additional private and safe space for relaxing, lounging and playing.

What is special about your town?
Aquinnah is a remote town with abundant charm. It is a whaling village and home of the Wampanoag Indian tribe.
Harpoon Hollow is also named Amos Smalley Way after Amos Smalley, famous for being the only harpooner to spear a white whale.

Half a mile down state road is Orange Peel Bakery with its homemade outdoor oven. One can buy fresh breads, cookies as well as other groceries.

In the other direction on State Road is the public library and town offices. At lands end is the Aquinnah Lighthouse which is open to visitors. The lighthouse sits near the Aquinnah Shop, a wonderful place for brunch that overlooks the ocean and the famous clay cliffs.

There is a public beach near the cliffs. Philbin beach, is accessed with a permit available to leaseholders. Both beaches are great, Philbin is more private.
