We have been coming to the Vineyard since 1989, when we returned to New England after several years in Chicago. We came for a weekend in June and were immediately smitten, booking a week in August sight unseen!
After renting for several years we purchased a property in the Dodger's Hole neighborhood in Edgartown, which we enjoyed tremendously. For more than a decade we brought our (then young) three children each summer, and hosted friends and family from New England, and states both near and distant. As we got closer to retirement age, and envisioned spending more time on the magical, beautiful island, we began to look for a home that would serve us better, gave thanks for that first house, and made the move to Tiffany Drive.
A few years ago we did retire, Jeff from a long career in commercial banking and a shorter but meaningful one as an executive in the not-for-profit sector, and Rebecca from ordained ministry in the Lutheran church, and are delighted when any of our "kids," their spouses, and our grandson can come from San Diego, Los Angeles, or Hartford and spend some precious time together.
We have decades of memories here, and make new ones every time we return. We hope that the ones you store up will be as treasured as ours!
What is special about this property?
This easy living cape invites folks to come in, and either relax together or find some restful time in solitude. The main level includes a wonderful communal space: a large kitchen with plenty of workspace for shared meal preparation, a capacious family room with a gas fireplace for chilly evenings, and comfortable dining area. The primary bedroom with a newly renovated en-suite bathroom, as well as a half bath and laundry, complete this level.
The finished lower level is comprised of a large family room and modest bedroom suite (bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom), offering a second area for indoor relaxation and a bedroom with a little extra privacy. On the second story there are three additional bedrooms sharing a full bath, and a cozy office nook for occasions when work summons.
As well thought out as the indoor living space is, it is the outdoors that is truly special. We are fortunate to be on about 1.75 acres, partly landscaped with stone walls, a large, pergola-covered patio (with pizza oven!), and a delightful, bubbling pond, as well as
open expanses. A farmer's porch beckons from the front yard, and a stone patio just outside the lower level suite offers yet another spot for relaxing.
As an added bonus, we enjoy deeded access to Lagoon Pond (about 200 yards down Barnes Road). Bring your kayaks!
Finally, you don't need any special equipment to walk up Tiffany Drive and to the end of Tiffany Lane to access some wonderful hiking trails in the Southern Woodlands!
What is special about your town?
Oak Bluffs is a wonderful mix of people, history, architecture, beaches, restaurants, and happenings—the liveliest town on the Vineyard.
"OB" has long been of the most prominent vacation areas for Black year rounders and seasonal visitors, making it one of the most diverse communities on the island. It is the home of the historic and enchanting gingerbread houses and tabernacle, Inkwell Beach, Circuit Avenue's shops and restaurants, Ocean Park, and the Flying Horses carousel, said to be the country's oldest. Great restaurants and local entertainment, and annual events like Illumination Night and the African American Film Festival make Oak Bluffs a one-of-a-kind community that draws people back year after year.
