Welcome to The Lilac House bunk house, an updated, modern-vintage cozy getaway, perfect for a few friends, a couple, or a family with one or two younger children. Directly across from the ocean, a short walk to town, and a 10 minute walk to the ferries docking in Oak Bluffs, and close to the bike path to Edgartown. Access to Inkwell beach (the steps down to the sand) is just a few houses away.

The house has everything you need: air conditioned (a very efficient wall-mounted mini-split), kitchen with fridge, oven/cooktop, sink (no dishwasher). There is a stacked washer/dryer in the back room. The back room also has a bureau, bathroom vanity/sink, and separate shower and toilet. The shower is a bit small, so we’ve added an outdoor shower (enclosed for privacy, with good water pressure and hot & cold water) that we, and guests, much prefer.

Please note that the beds are all single/bunk beds, and share the common space with the living/kitchen area; there is no "private" bedroom. You must provide your own linens (sheets, pillow cases and bath towels). <br /> <br /> The house is 1-story (a single step-up area inside and a step onto the exterior deck). <br /> <br /> There is public parking (often plentiful) on the road along the ocean.     Best little spot in Martha's Vineyard

    Stayed here toward the end of summer with my two teenage girls. The space really worked. It was cozy, but we had enough room to move around, even though the beds (four sleeping spaces) were in the same area as the sofa and kitchen. Being able to close off the back room for anyone getting changed really helped. So did the washer/dryer and having a full-sized bureau to put our things away. And the outdoor shower was fantastic. The guest house is close to the main house, but I got the sense the owner is careful about overlapping people. The owners themselves were in the main house next door while we stayed. They were helpful and friendly (we'd never been to the island before, so we appreciated them recommending some walkable restaurants in town) but respected our privacy, so we only saw them in passing. It's clean, cottage-core stylish, nicely (and quietly) air-conditioned, and the location can't be beaten. I would definitely stay here again! show more show less

    Treasure in Oak Bluffs!

    We loved this place and we are coming back! This was our first trip to Oak Bluffs, and we really felt like we scored when we managed to book this adorable waterfront guest house in one of the best locations in town. We'd originally considered a hotel room but got so much more, for less, in this lovely, updated guest house. Sure, a queen bed would have been nice for us as a couple, but being close to the person you love in your very own twin bed is a close second. The kitchen was a real bonus, as was the relaxing sofa area. The bathroom is small, but the back room made the whole thing feel more spacious, and we're now the biggest fans of outdoor showers. AC worked great, the place was very clean and well stocked, and the mattresses seemed new and were really comfortable. Owner was pleasant and helpful, and we kept a polite distance from the guests in the Main House, who were also very respectful of us. I think more than two adults would be a tight fit, and probably not the place for you if you plan on cooking every dinner in, but the walkability, views, and quick beach access were great and for the two of us it was terrific! show more show less

    We've only been renting this beloved gem for a few years, after updating it both for our use, and to make it what we looked for, as renters, for so long. We are long-time lovers of Oak Bluffs, and the Vineyard. Happy to help you with advice about the area, which we think is the best spot on the best street (steps from a fantastic swimming beach, walking distance to town but in a more peaceful area).

    What is special about this property?
    The wide, level, expansive wrap-around front and side porch, the views! The house is walking distance not only from the restaurants and fun of town and the harbor, but also the OB ferry, and close to the bike path to Edgartown. The house is open, uncluttered -- with a chic but casual modern-vintage vibe that feels fresh, not stodgy, and very welcoming.

    What is special about your town?
    Oak Bluffs is casual, fun, inclusive, and bustling, with a richly meaningful history. Loads to do both on the water and on land. We are steps from the famous ''Inkwell'' town beach and a bike ride up the town bike path to State Beach & Edgartown.
