Description

Our 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is perfect for vacationers who want to enjoy Nantucket the way the locals do. The cottage has over 1400 sq. ft. of indoor living space with a relaxing outside yard and is a non-smoking and animal free house. When you read our consistently fantastic reviews and comments you hopefully will have reassurance when booking our special spot.

Each bedroom will accommodate 2 adults sleeping in the same queen-sized bed. This vacation rental is best suited for 1-2 people who are friends, a mature couple or two couples vacationing together. Due to the size, configuration, property location and safety concerns it is not handicapped accessible and is not appropriate for children.

The house has new ultra-quiet, wall mounted air conditioning units, two large size bedrooms with queen size beds, comfortable mattresses and sumptuous bedding, tiled kitchen countertops, exposed reclaimed beams, pine floors and brick accent wall. We provide free, fast and secure Wi-Fi in the cottage and reaching out to the yard. The first floor has an open layout with one bedroom and bathroom downstairs and comfortable seating in kitchen and living room. The upstairs has sitting room with a 40'' TV and the 2nd bedroom, all with a great mix of furnishings from Nantucket’s local shops. There is a full, dry, clean and bright 400 sq. ft. basement with a washer and dryer for vacationers to use.

We are year round, on-island owners, Bob and Christine and have custom built this cottage. We live in our separate home on the property and use the same driveway that passes the cottage. We will welcome you to Nantucket and provide friendly insight to island living especially if you are a first timer to Nantucket. Whether you would like to celebrate a honeymoon, a babymoon (that great romantic fling before the little one arrives), a special anniversary, or just have time away from it all as a couple, our location in Tom Nevers East will be perfect for you. You will quickly make your own Nantucket memories!

OTHER THINGS YOU'LL WANT TO KNOW ABOUT OUR LOCATION AND PROPERTY: There is private parking for two cars on site in a well-kept, safe neighborhood with eight miles of private paved roads. There are private, no fee tennis courts within the neighborhood for your enjoyment. We also provide 4 beach chairs, 4 beach towels, cooler, beach umbrella, tennis rackets, a lobster pot and starter items such as toilet paper, soap, dish and laundry detergent, some paper goods, spices, etc. Our location has easy access to bike path, Nantucket's seasonal bus service, ''The Wave'' and beaches. Main Street Nantucket is 6 miles away, just a quick 11 minute drive by car and mid-island necessities such as the Stop & Shop grocery store, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, pharmacies, bank branches and restaurants such as The Downey Flake, Sea Grille, Pi Pizza, Island Kitchen, Keepers, Lola Burger and Kitty Murtagh’s are all only 5 miles and minutes away. The village of Sconset with all its own charm and its own zip code (02564) is less than 3 miles from our cottage.

Tom Nevers East is a well preserved island treasure: Delicious, pure well drinking water-no need for bottled water, abundant wildlife, natural beauty, non buggy side of the island, and our famous clear, night sky for stargazing. At our cottage you'll smell and feel the sweet green grass under your feet after taking your post beach rinse off in our enclosed outside shower. You’ll want to hang out in the yard, fire up the grill while sipping your beverage and listen to the pounding surf. Delight in the birds and bunnies and watch the unique light of the island as you enjoy the bounty from the gardens, farms and waters of Nantucket.

We hope you decide to ''Go Local'' and book with us in our vacation home for your relaxed island vacation and have yourself a full week of fun, food, sand, surf, shopping and sightseeing.

Back Again

My third time here and as enjoyable as my first two visits. I love the location - private, secluded, quiet - but less than a half-hour bike ride to town, or a 15-minute walk to the bus to town. (Who needs a car?) The house itself is great - clean and comfortable and the owners have supplied lots of the basics. A great place to spend a relaxing week. I'll definitely be back.

Thanks for letting other visitors know why our home is a great starting point for a nice vacation on the East end of the island. Although many people enjoy having the car you make great use of the WAVE bus and your own pedal power by biking. Nantucket's great outdoors has so many out of the way spots to enjoy: beaches, walking and biking trails, conservation properties and various little hideaways. We are glad you keep coming back. Hope to see you next year!

Relaxing Vacation On Nantucket Island

We have just returned home after a two weeks vacation on Nantucket Island. This is our second year that we have stayed at 2 Sandpiper Way. We were very satisfied with our accommodations there and if we are able to vacation again in the future on Nantucket Island, we would not hesitate to rent the same place.

The cottage was immaculate and had everything that we needed to feel comfortable. The location was easy to drive to with plenty of parking and it was very quiet. The owners were a very nice couple and made us feel welcome and gave us information of special events going on while we were there as well as information on places to eat. show more show less

What a very thoughtful, detailed review! We are so grateful when our efforts to offer a wonderful safe, clean, comfortable space for a vacation getaway are appreciated. It was great to see two of our favorite repeat guests return after missing out on year 2020 due to COVID. We hope potential travelers will feel confident in their booking after reading our more than 70 positive reviews.
Thanks again and see you next year!

Blindsided

It is clear that the owners take great pride in their cottage. It is extremely well maintained, exceptionally clean and well stocked with every amenity you would need.

Unfortunately, for my daughter and me, that's all the positive feedback we can offer.
In 30 years of renting on Nantucket (13 in the same house), we have never met the owners, so this was a first. When the owners informed us that they would greet us upon our arrival, we took that as a red flag. They showed us around the cottage and demonstrated how to turn on a stove, a TV, a washing machine and air conditioners, nothing we clearly didn't already know how to do!

During the tour, they told us we could NOT open the windows and had to keep the air conditioners on at all times, so as not to damage the woodwork in their home.

We were totally blindsided by this and speechless as there was no mention of this in the lease agreement. We are lovers of fresh air, cross breezes, especially on an island surrounded by salt air. We did not heed that request and would never have rented this cottage had we known about this in advance. This was major for us. I actually started to look for another place to rent. I was willing to lose my money.

There is a shared driveway so they must pass the cottage every time they come and go. They drove very slowly past the cottage to make sure the windows were closed (we are certain of this because of the text messages I received about closing the windows which I ignored).

We closed them when we left the house, but immediately opened them upon our return.
They also have a huge garden next to where you park your car, so they are walking past the cottage to tend to the garden which is a few yards from the house. This set-up does not allow for privacy at all!

The house is dark. If the sun shines through, it's not when we were there, mornings and early evening. The cottage is surrounded by several trees which provide a great deal of shade. Bottom line, if you love fresh air and sunlight and complete privacy to come and go as you wish, without feeling like the owners have an eye on things, then do no rent this cottage.

There are so many rules that you feel you are being micromanaged. No shoes allowed, (not a biggie), absolutely not one grain of sand allowed inside, must shower outside after returning from the beach, no wet clothes allowed indoors, no windows open inside. We were stressed to the max. It was a high anxiety experience and almost completely ruined our long awaited return to the island.

As for the location, Tom Nevers is like a corn maze made up of streets that look exactly the same. You can drive around and have no idea where you are going or how to find your way back. It offers total isolation, which during Covid, was the only reason it appealed to us. It was our first time there and definitely our last.

The owners left a note on my car the day before our departure, reminding us to be out by 9am and that they would be there at 8:45am to say goodbye. Just what we needed when all we wanted was to pack up our car, tidy up the house, be on our way and never look back.

We are so surprised and bummed out by your negative review and to read that you were so terribly unhappy with your time in our cottage and the area of Tom Nevers. As you point out, we take great care of the cottage, it's super clean, well stocked, and we take pride in its surroundings and the amenities we offer.

Rita, I had multiple interactions with you during the 5 months before your arrival in August, as I do with all the potential guests by phone call, email and text. The lease detailed all conditions and considerations and invited any questions and concerns. We enjoyed meeting you and your daughter, baking you some welcome cookies, telling you a little about the Tom Nevers East area and sharing our tomatoes, cukes and basil from our garden. On the few occasions we encountered you, it was fun to hear of your beach days at Fisherman's. We were grateful to also have my husband, Bob be able to help you immediately when you locked yourselves out of the cottage!

For the past 8 years, our practice of taking time with our guests, meeting and greeting them, and being close by and available if needed, as well as reviewing the quirks of the house, the appliances and systems, has worked well for our us and our visitors. Almost every one of them has told us they were so appreciative of this, and we feel these interactions are why the cottage has consistently received 5-star reviews.

Our lease agreement does have line items of special considerations such as the understanding of wet towels on furniture, sand in the house, outside showering after beach, etc. For many this could be their first beach or island vacation. We feel it is important to explain how our septic system works, why having windows open is problematic when it is wet and humid out, how to operate the Smart TV, etc. This information and follow through impacts the quality of our guests' stay as well as that of subsequent guests. I need to point out that your vacation week was when Hurricane Henri was bearing down on the island with thunderstorms, lightening and some gloomy, cloudy mornings. Poor weather can be a disappointment and a fright for so many and we were particularly solicitous of your and the property's safety.
We can only say we are sorry you were so dissatisfied in the offerings at our cottage and for your having feelings of micromanagement and a perception of us slowly passing the cottage as if we were spying on you is so very unfortunate. But I can't account for someone's feelings or anxiety however I respectfully acknowledge them. Your thoughtfulness at checkout was so very much appreciated. I hope your next Nantucket Rental will be a dream spot.

I have confidence that potential vacationers will look closely at our previous reviews, read what this particular reviewer had to say and determine if our cottage is the right fit for you. We hope it is!

Our Stay at the cottage

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The communication before and during our stay was excellent. We were greeted by the owners upon arrival, and they showed us around the place, and explained how everything worked. They had even left tasty cookies, chocolates and drinks for us. We were new to Nantucket, and between the information they had in the cottage, and their willingness to answer any questions we had during our stay, it was easy to get oriented. The cottage is clean, well-maintained, nicely decorated and well-equipped. The location is great, close to beaches, and the towns of 'Sconset and Nantucket. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone planning a trip to the island. show more show less

Gem of Tom Nevers!

Our 4th year in this cottage. As always our wonderful hosts Christine and Rob never disappoint! The cottage is very comfortable. It is exceptionally clean and has all amendments you will need for a wonderful vacation. We stayed 2-3 weeks and our time just flew by. We are so happy we have found this gem!

Charming and in excellent condition

Rental Cottage charming and in excellent condition. Clean, amenities excellent including air conditioning system. Tom Nevers beach nearby, practically had all to ourselves.

Property in secluded area, not touristy, but nearby enough activities if desired. Plenty of hiking & biking trails nearby. Will look to rent again next time we plan on visiting Nantucket.

Thank you for your great 5 star review. Everyone sure is pleased that we have the air conditioning during this hot and humid summer...no mold, mildew, damp sheets, furnishings or sticky wood in our beautiful space.

Lovely island getaway

We loved our week staying at the cottage, and especially appreciated the inside tips we got from Christine and Bob about great places to go and beaches to check out on the island. These made our visit extra special.

Great stay

We had a great time staying at Christine and Bob's cottage. The owners are delightful to deal with, the cottage is spotlessly clean and very well organized, and the neighborhood is quiet and convenient to many of Nantucket's great beaches and attractions. We are looking forward to many return visits!

Secluded and peaceful!

We have been coming to Nantucket for several years and generally stay in Sconset. It was such a treat to have the secluded serenity of Christine and Bob's cottage, during the beginning of the summer crowds.

Spent a lot of time listening to birdsong and surf from their yard. Tom Nevers Beach is a quick ride or run/walk away. Christine was so welcoming with snacks, info and great chats.

Their commitment to the environment is important and there is lots of instruction on how to maintain this while at the cottage (and Christine provided us reusable water bottles!) She also provides many thoughtful amenities. Just of note for those that may have mobility/balance issues (or large bags) there are steep stairs to the laundry/basement level and another flight of stairs to the living area, as well as a step up to the door.

This was one of the most peaceful stays we have had on the island and this location is great for a longer stay. It is also so nice to meet folks who are Nantucketers willing to share their little piece of paradise. Thank you!

Thanks for the terrific 5 star review. Thanks for noting how much we care about our slice of heaven and how much we enjoy sharing it with vacationers. Your points on parts of the cottage being more difficult for the less agile are important and although we do highlight those in our details of the cottage it is a good reminder to travelers to be sure a property fits your needs and expectations. We are always available to answer questions or concerns about the cottage.

Freeman Review

Had a wonderful stay in Tom Nevers. The home was great, beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything you could possibly want or need. I've been coming to Nantucket for the better part of 25 years and have never been to Tom Nevers before it was a nice experience with a beautiful beach.

I would highly recommend.

We were very happy that you chose our cottage on the east side of the island...our little piece of heaven called Tom Nevers East. We were glad you could explore and enjoy the slightly quieter off season of the end of May, early June.
Although anytime is a good time on Nantucket. Hope to see you again.

We were young, newly-married and excited when we bought this property in 1979. There were only a handful of year-rounders and very few pieces had sold in this newly developing “forever wild” area on the east end of the island. So many people tried to talk us out of it, asking, “Why are you buying in Tom Nevers? It is so far from Town. You’ll hate it.” Boy, are we glad we didn’t listen to them! Wish we had the money back then to have bought a few more parcels!

What is special about this property?
Our property is special to us because of its location in Tom Nevers East. We are part of a homeowners association, that for 30+ years, has taken great pride in the efforts made to maintain our six miles of private, surfaced roads that are well marked, easily accessed and in good condition, always with the safety and security of our friends and neighbors in mind.

Our cottage is situated in a garden like setting, quiet and private with nature all around, yet only a few short miles to Nantucket Town and Sconset. The house is meticulously clean. The property setting is quite unique with our green grassy yard, shade provided by the sassafras trees and scrub oaks and parking for two cars. If you are here at the right time...some fresh tomatoes, cukes, and basil from our garden can be part of your dinner! We love it and are very proud of what we can offer a visitor to the island.

What is special about your town?
Nantucket, as an island, is precious to us. We respect and are grateful for its hearty, welcoming residents, as well as the visitors that help boost our economy. We hope that everyone does their part in protecting our open spaces and beaches and they leave the island with a better understanding of the need to help preserve the island's fragile and finite resources. We often think about and reflect upon what the writer/naturalist, Henry Beston wrote in 1928 in his book, The Outermost House: ''Nature is a part of our humanity, and without some awareness and experience of that divine mystery man ceases to be man.''
