While I’ve lived in Massachusetts my entire life, there are many parts of Cape Cod that I’ve never had the chance to explore. I decided that this summer would be the perfect time to cross everything off my list to become a true Cape expert! From classic foods to iconic destinations, I was determined to experience them all.
I don’t consider myself an adventurous person, and I’m somewhat of a landlubber. But when I was offered the chance to try kayaking with Rideaway Adventures, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Rideaway Adventures offers kayaking, paddle boarding, yoga, and biking at their four locations in Mashpee and Sandwich. The team focuses on educating people about the unique Cape Cod ecosystems. Visitors can rent equipment or sign up for special tours, such as a sunset kayak or full moon paddle boarding tour. Jennie and I signed up for a two-hour instructor-led kayak tour based out of Sandwich Creek.
While I was nervous for my first time kayaking, my Rideaway tour leader made it an easy learning experience. Since the Rideaway instructor brought all the equipment right to the creek, we were ready to go as soon as we arrived. After quick instructions on kayaking, we were off on a beautiful sunny day..
Sandwich Creek was the perfect spot to try kayaking, offering easy tide conditions and medium sized paths. There was also plenty of wildlife along the way, including families of geese and an osprey nest up above. After I got the hang of it, I was coasting along the peaceful water like a pro!
We began our tour against the tide, exploring the many paths in the creek. Two hours breezed by as our group enjoyed the lovely weather and surrounding scenery. We finished our tour by turning around and following the tide, making for a relaxing finish to our wonderful trip.
The tour helped me explore my adventurous side while learning in a comfortable environment. I will definitely return to explore their other kayak experiences. If you are a beginner or someone who’s never kayaked before, Rideaway Adventures is a great place to start!
