Acts of Kindness on Cape Cod During a Difficult Time

Becky Fischer | 4/27/2020

With so much uncertainty and disruption brought into our lives recently, we wanted to lift spirits by sharing some heartwarming stories we’ve heard about locally.

Generous Local Heroes

Beyond the incredibly brave and valuable health care workers, there have been local heroes during this COVID-19 crisis who remind us of the power of kindness. Among them, an anonymous donor from Provincetown who purchased $5,000 worth of Stop & Shop gift cards to be given to the elderly shoppers. “It was super satisfying for all of us,” the store manager summarized the act of kindness.

Another heartwarming story comes from school cafeteria staff and National Honor Society high school students who are passing out daily lunches at many Cape schools. At Nauset Regional Middle School, students are distributing 2,600 breakfasts and lunches, as well as over 600 lunches to Cape Cod Tech students. The Nauset Middle School kitchen staff emphasized, “No one can fathom what is happening. We’re doing everything we can. We’ve all adjusted to this new role.” She later added, “We’re putting the ‘cool’ back into being a lunch lady.”

Plan Ahead – Support Local Business

If it’s not yet possible for you to visit the Cape and Islands at this time, perhaps you and your loved ones can look forward to dining and shopping here. Picture yourself, your family, and your friends at your favorite Cape restaurants and shops. Know someone itching to golf, or kayak, or paddleboard? Perhaps a gift certificate would be a great Mother’s or Father’s Day gift!

These Cape and Islands businesses are doing their best to prepare for an unpredictable and perhaps difficult summer, and we are looking for ways to support them! Love.Live.Local

Challenge Yourself, and Have Fun Doing So!

Following in the footsteps of several Cape and Islands Chambers of Commerce, we, too, have come up with a “Bingo” card that lists ways you can assist businesses. How many of these can you check off? Perhaps you can challenge yourself to check a couple more off, and raise your spirits in the process.Cape and Islands Bingo
