About The Jazzmen: Author Larry Tye Featuring Wayne Naus and Live Music with The Art Ensemble of Cape Cod...Live Music! Conversation with Bestselling Author Larry Tye! Book Signing!

Join us in a Jazz Age celebration for a Jazz Age Library. This is our kickoff event for our 100th anniversary celebration at the Harwich Port Library. And we are deepl
y honored, and humbled, to welcome author Larry Tye in conversation with Wayne Naus to talk about his latest book, The Jazzmen: How Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie Transformed America. Live music with the Art Ensemble of Cape Cod Jazz Trio showcasing the songs and sounds of these giants of American music will come before and after the talk, and a book signing and meet & greet will follow, with books provided by Reed Books in Harwich Port.

Larry Tye is the New York Times Bestselling author of many books on a variety of subjects, including Bobby Kennedy: the Making of a Liberal Icon, Demagogue: The Life and Long Shadow of Senator Joe McCarthy, Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend, and Superman: the High-Flying History of America's Most Enduring Hero. The Jazzmen is his latest book, and will be released in paperback in May of 2025.
From 1986-2001, Larry Tye was an award-winning reporter for the Boston Globe, and has taught journalism at Boston University, Northeastern and Tufts. In addition to his writing, Tye runs the Harvard-based Health Coverage Fellowship, which helps the media do a better job reporting on critical issues like public health and pandemics, mental health and the health impacts of climate change, and racial, ethnic and gender disparities in health care. Tye is now writing, for HarperCollins, The Forger of Paris: Adolfo Kaminsky and Jewish Resistance to the Holocaust. And we look forward to its release.

Wayne Naus is the founder and Director of our very own, award-winning, Monomoy High School Jazz Band. He is also the founder, pianist, and composer of the jazz trio, The Art Ensemble of Cape Cod. He began his career as a Navy musician playing trumpet, and has toured with Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, and the Arturo Sandoval Big Bands, and has performed at venues including Newport Jazz and Carnegie Hall. During the mid 2000s, he was also frequently called on to perform the National Anthem at Red Sox and Bruins games as a trumpet soloist. Wayne Naus has also written several books on music theory and composition, and he taught at Berklee College of Music for 35 years.
