About

Mayo Beach is a great beach for families, especially young children, as the water is calm and warmer than other surrounding areas. There is a large parking lot directly in front of the beach that is free to the public and rarely fills up. Low and high tides will occur twice a day. At low tide, swimming is not possible, however, the flats left behind are perfect for shell fishing where kids will find hermit crabs and horseshoe crabs and other sea life.

Mayo Beach is next to Wellfleet Town Pier stretching down Kendrick Avenue. There are a number of vacation rentals available directly across the street from the beach, plus a number rentals all within walking distance.

There are several restaurants located next to the beach including Mac's on the Pier, The Pearl and The Bookstore. Next to Mayo Beach are public basketball courts and across the street is a large playground, tennis courts, soccer fields and a skate park.

Not crowded. Great for little kids. Stones, shells, little snails to collect at low tide. Gentle swimming conditions at mid to high tide. Boats to watch. Water is warmer than other salt water beaches. Several places to park and access beach.

We loved Mayo beach for our three-year-old. There's a great park right there, with restrooms, a quiet beach with clean sand - no muck if you go down the street toward Mac's. The water is shallow and calm enough for a toddler to go in / out of the water on his own. Plus... Mac's has the best fried clams and ice cream!

Mayo Beach in Wellfleet is free, with abundant free parking, and is right on the harbor, with stunning views of Great Island and Indian Neck. Not great for swimming at low tide, but otherwise a great hassle-free option during the crowded summertime.

Mayo Beach is my favorite Beach as it is good for families and there are no big dunes or anything. It is great and high tide and at low tide and it is close to the yacht and Country Club where you can play Golf and Tennis

Uncrowded beach overlooking the harbor. Relaxing to watch the boats coming and going. Fun to see the oyster fishermen working at low tide.
